"They did an excellent job. They were expensive, but you get what you pay for. The building inspector of the city said this was the best built garage he had ever inspected. I would highly recommend them and I would definitely hire them again."

"Jim and his team were great to work with. I needed a garage and a driveway but I was on a tight budget and had never done a construction project like this before. Garage Elements did a fantastic job helping me understand the options, what each item would cost so I could pick and choose what I wanted while staying on budget. Really appreciated the great communication throughout the project and Garage Elements commitment to insuring I was happy with the final product. Would highly recommend them!"

"The crew was efficient, quick and good at what they do. Finished product is BEAUTIFUL!!!! Price was less than we thought it would be since our original garage floor was in really bad shape. Would highly recommend this company."

"Was very good and prompt at calling back and scheduling a time. Had to make two trips as I did not originally have all the proper equipment for making the garage door installation. Needed to secure a low overhead garage door installation kit. No additional add-on's to the initial quote provided. Will plan on using him again and referring him to my friends and family."

"Owner Stephan Pier was ABSOLUTE GEM to work with. After submitting our request through Angie's List, he contacted us immediately and came out to inspect our gutter issue to provide a quote. He educated us all the way from the beginning (estimate day) to end of the process (install day) and was very responsive via email to any and all of the questions we had. The best part was that he provided us with three different quotes based on our needs and budget and let us be the one to choose the timeframe for install. Before install day he sent an email to let us know what we were to expect. He mentioned the possibility of noise but we honestly didn't have any interruption and it never impacted our work day. The greatest surprise was that HE was the one that showed up on install day along with his brother-in-law and were the two that completed the work. I just assumed he would be sending out a work crew, so that sealed the deal even more with our decision. I love supporting small local businesses any time I can. After the job was completed, he took us around to inspect the completed work and even took pictures from the top of the roof so we wouldn't have to climb a ladder to check it out. He thoroughly explained what he did to complete the job and explained the reason why he did things a certain way. He made it very clear that if we had any issues to reach out and he would gladly fix them. Thank you for the stellar service, Stephan! You more than exceeded our expectations, made it as effortless as possible, and we would highly recommend your service to any and everyone!"

FAQs for garage and garage door service projects in Stanford, IL

Enclosing a carport essentially turns it into a garage. You’ll start by framing and finishing exterior walls, then add a garage door (averaging $1,200), windows, and wiring for lights or outlets.

Plan for site prep and, if needed, a thicker slab to handle the added weight. Once the walls are up, insulation, drywall, and exterior siding create a secure, weather-tight space that protects vehicles and gear year-round.

A well-built carport may not add a huge dollar figure to an appraisal, but it can boost buyer appeal. Covered parking protects vehicles and lawn equipment, sharpens curb appeal, and fills what might otherwise be an empty driveway space. If the carport matches your home’s style and stays in good repair, it can make the property more attractive and competitive when you decide to sell.

Most cities and counties require a building permit for a new carport. Fees range from $60 to $800, depending on local codes and the size of the structure. Getting the permit upfront ensures the carport meets zoning rules and HOA guidelines, protecting you from fines or expensive retrofits later. Check with your building department—or ask your contractor—before ordering materials or scheduling installation.

A poured concrete slab is the gold standard for carport foundations. Concrete delivers superior load-bearing strength, keeps posts level, and resists shifting in freeze-thaw conditions. While gravel, dirt, or permeable pavers cost less upfront, they can’t match concrete’s long-term stability, especially if you might convert the carport into a garage later. Investing in a slab now can save money and hassle down the road.

Pre-made kits start at $300 and bundle all the required parts—sometimes installation, too—making them the most budget-friendly option. Custom carports cost more ($12 to $40 per square foot plus labor) but let you match the design, size, and finishes to your home.

If price and quick setup top your list, go with a kit. If you have a tricky layout or want a seamless aesthetic, investing in a custom build is worth the premium.
