"I hired Nate to install new windows, siding, and doors as wells as build two decks with one pergola and one covered roof. His work was good when he showed up with the exception of the trim and siding around the bay window. This work was not good at all. The trim didn't follow the window and there was a lot of flashing showing between the shingles and trim. I showed him and he tried to tell me that that was how it was supposed to be. There's absolutely no way that was correct. He finally said that he would fix it but not until spring but he wanted paid for everything less $500 for all the other projects. His contract stated that he doesn't get paid until all projects are completed. This is another point he argued, stating that the trim/siding was completed, just not correctly. I don't know why anyone would consider it completed if it needed to be redone. With that said, he started work in June and was done with everything but the inside trim and having to re-do the outside bay window trim. He texted me on Sep. 20 to tell me the trim was in and he'd be there in a couple weeks to finish. I never heard from him again until the week before Christmas. He was in a hurry to get done saying he needed to get paid before the New Year. I get that but I hadn't heard from him in literally 3 months and now he was in a hurry to finish. This was more or less par for his course throughout the entire project. He would text and say he would be working in the morning. Sometimes he would be there, sometimes he wouldn't be there until the afternoon, some days he wouldn't show up at all. He really drug the project out over the course of 7 months and then was in a hurry at the end of the year. Poor communication and a lot of hassle. I even had to call the lumberyard to come pick up the leftover lumber as it was sitting in my yard for three weeks. Nate said he had called for a pickup but the lumberyard had never heard from him. Did okay work but would definitely not recommend."

"I hired KJ Drywall to frame, insulate, and sheetrock/texture a basement bedroom. Kevin did a great job. He was very knowledgeable about what needed to be done. He worked very hard and completed the job in a good time. He seems pretty efficient. We had a plumbing issue during his work, and he had someone out to fix it within about 45 minutes. The repair was made in Avery professional manner. Long story short, this fellow and his help were very good to work with, very fair with the price, And Kevin seems like just a really good guy. Glad to have worked with him."

"Gary and his team were super quick and efficient from asking for a quote to the finished product! We had our 2 1/2 stall garage floor done and we couldnâ t be happier with it! Once it was finished, Gary checked in with us multiple times to see if we were satisfied with the flooring and how it was holding up. Would definitely recommend!"

Enclosing a carport essentially turns it into a garage. You’ll start by framing and finishing exterior walls, then add a garage door (averaging $1,200), windows, and wiring for lights or outlets.
Plan for site prep and, if needed, a thicker slab to handle the added weight. Once the walls are up, insulation, drywall, and exterior siding create a secure, weather-tight space that protects vehicles and gear year-round.
A well-built carport may not add a huge dollar figure to an appraisal, but it can boost buyer appeal. Covered parking protects vehicles and lawn equipment, sharpens curb appeal, and fills what might otherwise be an empty driveway space. If the carport matches your home’s style and stays in good repair, it can make the property more attractive and competitive when you decide to sell.
Most cities and counties require a building permit for a new carport. Fees range from $60 to $800, depending on local codes and the size of the structure. Getting the permit upfront ensures the carport meets zoning rules and HOA guidelines, protecting you from fines or expensive retrofits later. Check with your building department—or ask your contractor—before ordering materials or scheduling installation.
A poured concrete slab is the gold standard for carport foundations. Concrete delivers superior load-bearing strength, keeps posts level, and resists shifting in freeze-thaw conditions. While gravel, dirt, or permeable pavers cost less upfront, they can’t match concrete’s long-term stability, especially if you might convert the carport into a garage later. Investing in a slab now can save money and hassle down the road.
Pre-made kits start at $300 and bundle all the required parts—sometimes installation, too—making them the most budget-friendly option. Custom carports cost more ($12 to $40 per square foot plus labor) but let you match the design, size, and finishes to your home.
If price and quick setup top your list, go with a kit. If you have a tricky layout or want a seamless aesthetic, investing in a custom build is worth the premium.
