"Called Harris Roofing after the wind storm and was blown away with how quick they responded. Within 24 hours I had a repair done, a quote for a new roof and a contract sent to me. Fast forward 2 weeks later and he tore off and replaced my roof and only took about 1.5 days. Always kept me updated along the way and job site was always clean. Price was reasonable and didn't feel like I was being taken advantage of. Would recommend this roofing company to anyone for any roofing needs!"

"I contacted Garage Door Repair Anchorage without knowing it was part of Angi, and received a text from Hunter at Bigfoot Garage Doors with a Dayton, Ohio, area code, which totally confused me and made me suspect a scam. However, when I Googled Bigfoot Garage Doors, I discovered that they were,in fact, a local company in Eagle River, Alaska, with a local number. I called them and explained my confusion and concern and received a very quick response from Hunter to explain the phone number on the text. He heard what my problem was with the garage door and said he was in Anchorage at that time and could stop by to look at the door on his way back to Eagle River. When he came, he was easily able to identify the problem with the door and adjust the door and the drive motor so the door opened easily. In the process, he explained how the door mechanism worked and how to take care of it. He also lubricated all the door rollers so they worked smoothly. I was very satisfied with his willingness to come quickly and to explain everything he did to make sure the door functioned properly, as well as to let me know that the door springs might be nearing the end of their useful life -- and what to look for if that happened.. I would certainly recommend Bigfoot Garage Doors to anyone in the Anchorage area who needs quick, informed, and reliable service on their garage door."

FAQs for garage and garage door service projects in Chugiak, AK

Enclosing a carport essentially turns it into a garage. You’ll start by framing and finishing exterior walls, then add a garage door (averaging $1,200), windows, and wiring for lights or outlets.

Plan for site prep and, if needed, a thicker slab to handle the added weight. Once the walls are up, insulation, drywall, and exterior siding create a secure, weather-tight space that protects vehicles and gear year-round.

A well-built carport may not add a huge dollar figure to an appraisal, but it can boost buyer appeal. Covered parking protects vehicles and lawn equipment, sharpens curb appeal, and fills what might otherwise be an empty driveway space. If the carport matches your home’s style and stays in good repair, it can make the property more attractive and competitive when you decide to sell.

Most cities and counties require a building permit for a new carport. Fees range from $60 to $800, depending on local codes and the size of the structure. Getting the permit upfront ensures the carport meets zoning rules and HOA guidelines, protecting you from fines or expensive retrofits later. Check with your building department—or ask your contractor—before ordering materials or scheduling installation.

A poured concrete slab is the gold standard for carport foundations. Concrete delivers superior load-bearing strength, keeps posts level, and resists shifting in freeze-thaw conditions. While gravel, dirt, or permeable pavers cost less upfront, they can’t match concrete’s long-term stability, especially if you might convert the carport into a garage later. Investing in a slab now can save money and hassle down the road.

Pre-made kits start at $300 and bundle all the required parts—sometimes installation, too—making them the most budget-friendly option. Custom carports cost more ($12 to $40 per square foot plus labor) but let you match the design, size, and finishes to your home.

If price and quick setup top your list, go with a kit. If you have a tricky layout or want a seamless aesthetic, investing in a custom build is worth the premium.
