"our handyman installer was very customer service oriented, friendly and easy to work with. he did the whole project uninstalling and installing the microwave over-the-range appliance in less than an hour (40-45 min). I really appreciated that Mr. Handyman offered the haul-away service of the old appliance that the other home handyman services I was considering did not. overall, it was excellent--a professional and efficient home installation service. the cost was also comparable with what Home Depot was charging. I will definitely keep Mr. Handyman in mind for any upcoming home projects we may need."

"Over a year ago, I wanted to install a washer and dryer upstairs in my bathroom. The job required a 220 and 110 electrical line and new plumping. I had 3 contractors come to my house to ***** the job. For various reasons, each contractor said the job couldn't be done and recommended the washer and dryer be placed in the basement. I didn't give up. I searched and searched the internet until Angie's List recommended several names. I went with Handyman Chris Jackson. I sat down with Chris and explained my frustration and intentions. He listened, explained what he could do and gave me a very good price. In addition to major work in the bathroom, he also completed 13 other jobs around the house. The entire job was completed in a week. Everything that I imagined turned out absolutely outstanding. I am truly impressed with Chris' professionalism, knowledge, work ethic, and ability to envision what I wanted without trying to dissuade me. His crew was very polite and skillful. I am fortunate and grateful in acquiring Chris. I'm planning on hiring him in the spring and would recommend him to anyone. This old house will never be the same thanks to Chris Jackson!"

"Joe responded almost immediately to my request for handyman services and provided a quote a few days later. He arrived when he said he would, was very personable and did a very good job of the installation and matching the existing texturing. We've already discussed another upcoming project."

"Tom did a great job fixing my loose stairs in my 120 year old home! He had to cut out the drywall to get to the stairs, repaired it, redrywalled it and painted it all in two days."

FAQs for handyman service projects in Pittsburgh, PA

Most quality caulk products provide several years of service, though specific longevity depends on formulation and exposure conditions. Bathroom areas with high moisture exposure should be re-caulked once a year to prevent water infiltration and mold growth.

In contrast, exterior window and door caulking in protected locations might perform effectively for five years or longer. Watch for signs of deterioration like shrinking, cracking, or discoloration that indicate replacement is needed.

While often used interchangeably, caulk and sealant products serve slightly different purposes that affect pricing. Traditional caulks work well for interior applications and moderate movement areas like window frames and baseboards.

Sealants, formulated with enhanced flexibility and durability, target high-movement or extreme-exposure locations. The specialized polymers in sealants result in somewhat higher costs, though standard caulk remains sufficient and economical for most household applications.

Pre-painting caulking ensures a professional finish by filling gaps and creating smooth transitions between surfaces. Professional services for this preparation work follow standard pricing of $1.25 to $4 per linear foot, depending on accessibility and preparation requirements.

While DIY approaches cost less in materials, the time investment can be substantial. Proper caulking before painting significantly enhances paint adhesion, appearance, and longevity.

Moderate temperature seasons like early fall and spring provide ideal conditions for exterior caulking projects. These periods offer temperatures that allow proper caulk flow during application while supporting effective curing.

Avoid extremely hot weather that accelerates drying before proper tooling, or cold conditions that inhibit adhesion and curing. Low humidity and dry weather forecasts further enhance application success and long-term performance.
