"My home had a 16 year old furnace and air conditioner which both were not working probably and my electric bill was sky high trying to cool the upstairs of my home. I had Climatemakers come and check out my unit as well as give me a price on a new system and installation. The price of a new 16 seer was the best out of the hundreds of HVAC companies in the Hampton roads area and I couldn’t be happier with the installation crew they were very Quiet and respectful do to the wife working from home. They even matched the thermostat backing with the wall color. The wife was Very happy with that, I was very happy with my electric bill dropping over half of what I was paying the summer before. ps. Thanks for the prompt service during the Covid outbreak."

"Commonwealth Comfort is absolutely awesome! They are conscientious experts in every aspect of the Heating/AC business. They are honest and do not try to take advantage of the customer. Bo is so articulate and well spoken and takes you through every step of the way. He makes sure that you are comfortable with the operation of the system. I am 78 and have been around the block a couple of times so I recognize quality, integrity, and value. If you don’t consider Commonwealth Comfort for Heating/AC needs you may regret it later. Bo’s team of Blake and Chris round out a quality group of true professionals."

"Had the A/C quit working in my rental property and I was out of town. I contacted PLE and the system was repaired the same day and the repair cost was very reasonable. I would recommend these guys to anyone that needs their heat or A/C fixed and done right the first time."

"I recently returned from a trip to find my heat pump was not working and my house was 50 degrees. It was late so I looked online to search for an HVAC repair service. I am extremely glad I found Galactic Air Inc. I filled out an online service request form and the next morning I got a call. The technician told me when he could get to my house and showed up just as he told me. He was pleasant, courteous, and professional. He found the problem within a few minutes. The connection box in my attic had burned up. I was very lucky my house did not catch fire while I was gone. He repaired the connection box and checked out the rest of my system while he was there. My heat pump is working great now. The price was very reasonable for the work he did. I am 100% satisfied and plan to get the maintenance plan from Galactic Air Inc. to keep my system running well. I highly recommend Galactic Air to anyone looking for a good, professional, and reasonably priced HVAC service."

"David was earlier than the scheduled time. He was very meticulous and thorough with his service of our system. After being advised from another company that our AC needed a full replacement because of a faulty compressor. We decided to get a second opinion. After all the compressor was not faulty. The outside unit was filthy and the system was low on refrigerant. After the total cleaning of the outside unit and addition of some refrigerant the system runs like it had never missed a beat. Now I understand that it is just a matter of time for a 17 year old Trane system but there are still many hours on this system still. Thank you David and Climate Makers for getting us back up and running."

"Cristian from RS Andrews did an outstanding job performing seasonal maintenance on our heat pump and air handling unit. He was very thorough and explained everything he was doing. Additionally he adjusted the dampers in ventilation system, located in our attic space. He demonstrated this process so I can do it myself in the future, if I need to. Extremely professional young man, very courteous. Highly recommended!"

"I am very satisfied with the work done by Worley’s. I had a new HVAC system installed to replace an 18 year old system that had quit working. The price was competitive but the warranty and included maintenance sold me. The technicians that came to install my system were punctual, polite and efficient. It did take a little longer than expected due to some material issues but I was kept informed of the progress and delays throughout the process and I appreciated the attention to detail rather than rushing the job. Overall, this was a very smooth and easy process and I would absolutely recommend them for your HVAC needs."

FAQs for furnace / forced air heating system install or replace projects in Chesapeake, VA

Converting from an oil furnace to an electric furnace isn't a simple swap—the oil system needs to be completely removed before installing the electric furnace. You'll need a full electric system installation, but you might be able to reuse existing ductwork if it's up to current safety standards. You’ll need to budget for a new electric furnace installation, which costs between $1,800 and $6,200, including professional removal, proper disposal, and safe installation of the new system.

Electric furnaces are 100% efficient at converting electricity into heat. However, some of that heat can be lost as it travels through your home's ductwork or escapes through poorly insulated areas. That's why regular duct maintenance and proper home insulation are important to maximize your furnace's efficiency and reduce heat loss, ensuring consistent warmth and lower energy costs.

With proper maintenance, an electric furnace can last anywhere from 20 to 30 years, outlasting the average gas furnace's lifespan of 15 to 20 years. To keep your electric furnace running efficiently, schedule regular cleanings, tighten connections, and have inspections done before winter arrives. With routine maintenance, you’ll ensure consistent, safe heating for years to come.

The size of the electric furnace you need depends on factors like your home's square footage, climate, and insulation quality. As a general guideline, those who live in warmer climates should multiply their square footage by 30 to 35 BTUs, while those in cooler areas should multiply it by 50 to 60 BTUs.

Consulting with an HVAC professional can help you determine the exact size that's right for your home.

An electric furnace works by converting electricity into heat using high-resistance heating elements. A blower then pushes the warm air through your home's ductwork, distributing heat evenly throughout your space. Since there's no combustion involved, electric furnaces eliminate the risks associated with gas furnaces and provide consistent, reliable heating when properly installed.

An electric furnace uses between 40 and 80 kilowatts per day to heat your home. The exact amount it uses depends on factors like your home's size, insulation, and overall energy requirements. Larger homes or those with poor insulation use more energy than smaller, well-insulated spaces. A professional furnace assessment can help confirm the ideal unit size for your needs.
