"In a pinch last night and in cold weather, my newer furnace was suddenly not functional so I was forced to reach out to Doty after hours. Clayton answered my call and patiently walked me through multiple steps to correct the issue. With newborn babies in the home, the loss of heat required urgent attention and Clayton exceeded my expectations. Although this newer equipment in a newer home was installed by another local HVAC company, I knew Doty from previous experience living in the area and was confident superior service would be provided. I will certainly reach out to Doty first for future issues. Thank you again, Clayton!"

Small jobs welcome

"When my furnace stopped, I called Tim because he was the last to service my old furnace before I bought the home. He came 1st thing in the morning, confirmed parts, and had it repaired quickly. He was fast, empathetic, and knew exactly what he was doing with my old furnace!"

"I am a new customer with Service Professor, Inc. as of May 2021. In each of three service calls for routine system checks of my HVAC, plumbing, and furnace systems, I couldn't have been more satisfied with the professionalism of the individual tradesmen or with the customer service communication provided by friendly and patient office staff. This review is being posted especially to praise the exceptional routine service call provided by John Courtney on 10/11/2021. John presented as being a good listener and one who genuinely enjoyed his work and serving others. For example, he listened carefully to my questions and responded with detailed information that I could understand easily. And, after I commented to John about my previous positive interactions with Service Professor, Inc. tradesmen and with customer service staff, John responded by stating he has worked in the heating and cooling trade for 12 years and felt very fortunate, as a newer employee, to be able to work for an organization such as Service Professor that places caring and quality customer service communication among its most important priorities. I hope my comments encourage anyone seeking HVAC, plumbing, or furnace routine service or repair work to not hesitate to contact Service Professor."

"Gladstone came out the next day for an evaluation. He confirmed my fears - the secondary heat exchanger was corroded out. They were able to get a new furnace installed in ~4 hours first thing the next morning. In Winter! They cleaned it up better than I had, and hauled away my old water heater that I still had downstairs. A+"

"From the very beginning in late October, the painting crew (2 young men) were efficient and worked carefully.  They actually seemed very eager to communicate with us as to color, etc. They also tried to be as unobtrusive as possible, which is pretty difficult to do.
After the painting was completed, the kitchen backsplash and the hardware.was done...it all went smoothly.
The mirror in the powder room was installed. Next, the 2 upstairs bathrooms received new flooring, new countertops and mirrors
Also, we had some ongoing  minor items that needed attention such as loose towel bars.  These were addressed in a timely fashion.  We found Elliot to be a very careful craftsman and in turn was available to answer any questions and concerns we had.  We do recommend  this business to anyone who might have need for remodeling, and/or handyman tasks!

FAQs for furnace / forced air heating system install or replace projects in East Lansing, MI

Converting from an oil furnace to an electric furnace isn't a simple swap—the oil system needs to be completely removed before installing the electric furnace. You'll need a full electric system installation, but you might be able to reuse existing ductwork if it's up to current safety standards. You’ll need to budget for a new electric furnace installation, which costs between $1,800 and $6,200, including professional removal, proper disposal, and safe installation of the new system.

Electric furnaces are 100% efficient at converting electricity into heat. However, some of that heat can be lost as it travels through your home's ductwork or escapes through poorly insulated areas. That's why regular duct maintenance and proper home insulation are important to maximize your furnace's efficiency and reduce heat loss, ensuring consistent warmth and lower energy costs.

With proper maintenance, an electric furnace can last anywhere from 20 to 30 years, outlasting the average gas furnace's lifespan of 15 to 20 years. To keep your electric furnace running efficiently, schedule regular cleanings, tighten connections, and have inspections done before winter arrives. With routine maintenance, you’ll ensure consistent, safe heating for years to come.

The size of the electric furnace you need depends on factors like your home's square footage, climate, and insulation quality. As a general guideline, those who live in warmer climates should multiply their square footage by 30 to 35 BTUs, while those in cooler areas should multiply it by 50 to 60 BTUs.

Consulting with an HVAC professional can help you determine the exact size that's right for your home.

An electric furnace works by converting electricity into heat using high-resistance heating elements. A blower then pushes the warm air through your home's ductwork, distributing heat evenly throughout your space. Since there's no combustion involved, electric furnaces eliminate the risks associated with gas furnaces and provide consistent, reliable heating when properly installed.

An electric furnace uses between 40 and 80 kilowatts per day to heat your home. The exact amount it uses depends on factors like your home's size, insulation, and overall energy requirements. Larger homes or those with poor insulation use more energy than smaller, well-insulated spaces. A professional furnace assessment can help confirm the ideal unit size for your needs.
