"First, the bottom line. Hudson Valley Air Control (David Coates) installed a two zone heat pump system. They did the work for the price they quoted, when they said they would complete the work and system is working well. More detail. We replaced a 20 year old oil heat/central air system with two Bosch heat pumps. We got several quotes of which Hudson Valley Air was the least expensive, partially because they were confident the new system would provide enough heat to the kitchen/dining room without running additional ductwork when others questioned if it would (it does). The installation wasnâ t without issues. One of the heat pumps didnâ t run properly. It took some effort to figure out the problem was a defective thermostat. David Coates/Hudson Valley Air was with us throughout, including a late evening visit to iron out some of the kinks. I wholeheartedly recommend David and his firm."

"We hired Joe's Plumbing to repair a leak in our heating system and we were very pleased. Although there was a small problem with the initial repair, Joe responded immediately to our call and fixed the problem. He was punctual, courteous, tidy and later telephoned us to make sure the issue was completely resolved. We highly recommend him."

"I am a fan. Just met James today but we'll bring all of our HVAC work to him going forward. He probably could have sold me a brand new air conditioner today but told me I didn't need it. Other companies maybe not so honest in my experience. I highly recommend you work with this company over any other HVAC company. Thanks James."

"I have owned my house for a year and have had several technicians in to inspect my hot water heater, furnace and air conditioner. None of these professionals noticed or mentioned several serious problems with our plumbing and heating equipment. A couple of these problems could have resulted in a catastrophic flood of the entire basement within hours. Jarred Fay of F & F came in and explained all of the issues very clearly and installed a new water heater (a very expensive gas power vented type) and fixed all of the shoddy work that had previously been done at the house. His prices were several hundred dollars lower than the large company that I have a service contract with quoted me. Jarred's work was beautifully done - you can immediately see the improved quality of products and installation. Jarred also fixed several smaller plumbing issues that had been bothering us since we bought the house and installed some safety valves and sensors that can avert flooding disasters and alert you if you have a leak. All work was done quickly at a very fair price. I will recommend F & F Plumbing to anyone who needs quality plumbing work!"

Customers say: Quick response

"Unlike the first company I called who said they can not come until January 15, JSP came the next day. The worker was respectful and knowledgeable. He checked out my furnace and found one part that was not working. He returned the next day with the part and installed it. He also adjusted all three thermostats and replaced a filter. I signed a maintenance agreement."

FAQs for furnace / forced air heating system install or replace projects in Highland, NY

Converting from an oil furnace to an electric furnace isn't a simple swap—the oil system needs to be completely removed before installing the electric furnace. You'll need a full electric system installation, but you might be able to reuse existing ductwork if it's up to current safety standards. You’ll need to budget for a new electric furnace installation, which costs between $1,800 and $6,200, including professional removal, proper disposal, and safe installation of the new system.

Electric furnaces are 100% efficient at converting electricity into heat. However, some of that heat can be lost as it travels through your home's ductwork or escapes through poorly insulated areas. That's why regular duct maintenance and proper home insulation are important to maximize your furnace's efficiency and reduce heat loss, ensuring consistent warmth and lower energy costs.

With proper maintenance, an electric furnace can last anywhere from 20 to 30 years, outlasting the average gas furnace's lifespan of 15 to 20 years. To keep your electric furnace running efficiently, schedule regular cleanings, tighten connections, and have inspections done before winter arrives. With routine maintenance, you’ll ensure consistent, safe heating for years to come.

The size of the electric furnace you need depends on factors like your home's square footage, climate, and insulation quality. As a general guideline, those who live in warmer climates should multiply their square footage by 30 to 35 BTUs, while those in cooler areas should multiply it by 50 to 60 BTUs.

Consulting with an HVAC professional can help you determine the exact size that's right for your home.

An electric furnace works by converting electricity into heat using high-resistance heating elements. A blower then pushes the warm air through your home's ductwork, distributing heat evenly throughout your space. Since there's no combustion involved, electric furnaces eliminate the risks associated with gas furnaces and provide consistent, reliable heating when properly installed.

An electric furnace uses between 40 and 80 kilowatts per day to heat your home. The exact amount it uses depends on factors like your home's size, insulation, and overall energy requirements. Larger homes or those with poor insulation use more energy than smaller, well-insulated spaces. A professional furnace assessment can help confirm the ideal unit size for your needs.
