"Steven Nelson came out last week to give a proposal. He was very professional and and spent time answering my questions and told me to call him if I had any more. After receiving 2 other bids, we decided to go with Nelson's. I called the office and spoke with Katie, who was very pleasant, and scheduled the appointment. Ryan and Joey arrived early today to install a new ac and heating system. They were both very nice, polite, professional and hard working, despite the hot day and working in a hot attic. They also cleaned up after working and Joey even vacuumed the area. I am happy to recommend Nelson's Heating & Cooling to anyone looking for a new system."

"The installation was seamless and they recently came out on a service call and patiently and clearly explained how to maintain the heat pump to me (I have zero mechanical knowledge and I understood the instructions very well). The recommended efficient heat pump is great for our house! I am impressed and would recommend them to everyone!"

"11/19/24 Taylor Heating and Air did an excellent job of installing a new Heat Pump system for the upstairs area of my home. They replaced the old hydronic system which had gone bad. They did a complete system replacement. The technician Chris O. was extremely knowledgeable, professional and highly respectful of my property. Kept me informed and sort my consent as to how he was planning on accomplishing certain installation requirement. I got about five estimates for this job and Taylor had the most economical package. I highly recommend this company for any HVAC work or more. The whole staff were all very nice people."

"While I may be biased (because he’s my cousin), I highly recommend Verlander’s Heating & Air! Today (5/18), temperatures unexpectedly reached 95°. 🥵 While I was working, my husband told me that it was very warm upstairs (83° by my Nest app) and there was no cool air coming out. The upstairs is where our bedroom and the kids bedrooms are, so that was a no go. I reached out to Jason, and told him what was going on. He told me that he could be there in about 20-30 minutes and he would take a look at it. He arrived around 6:00 pm, checked our upstairs units and outside units to find that in my upstairs unit, one of the capacitors had gone bad on both ends. He replaced it and went back upstairs to check before he left, and the temperature had already started to drop! 🥶 Jason has been working in HVAC for a long time and used to be the COO of Blazer HVAC, until starting his own company. He is as honest as they come, and is not someone that is going to take advantage of you."

FAQs for furnace / forced air heating system install or replace projects in New Kent, VA

Converting from an oil furnace to an electric furnace isn't a simple swap—the oil system needs to be completely removed before installing the electric furnace. You'll need a full electric system installation, but you might be able to reuse existing ductwork if it's up to current safety standards. You’ll need to budget for a new electric furnace installation, which costs between $1,800 and $6,200, including professional removal, proper disposal, and safe installation of the new system.

Electric furnaces are 100% efficient at converting electricity into heat. However, some of that heat can be lost as it travels through your home's ductwork or escapes through poorly insulated areas. That's why regular duct maintenance and proper home insulation are important to maximize your furnace's efficiency and reduce heat loss, ensuring consistent warmth and lower energy costs.

With proper maintenance, an electric furnace can last anywhere from 20 to 30 years, outlasting the average gas furnace's lifespan of 15 to 20 years. To keep your electric furnace running efficiently, schedule regular cleanings, tighten connections, and have inspections done before winter arrives. With routine maintenance, you’ll ensure consistent, safe heating for years to come.

The size of the electric furnace you need depends on factors like your home's square footage, climate, and insulation quality. As a general guideline, those who live in warmer climates should multiply their square footage by 30 to 35 BTUs, while those in cooler areas should multiply it by 50 to 60 BTUs.

Consulting with an HVAC professional can help you determine the exact size that's right for your home.

An electric furnace works by converting electricity into heat using high-resistance heating elements. A blower then pushes the warm air through your home's ductwork, distributing heat evenly throughout your space. Since there's no combustion involved, electric furnaces eliminate the risks associated with gas furnaces and provide consistent, reliable heating when properly installed.

An electric furnace uses between 40 and 80 kilowatts per day to heat your home. The exact amount it uses depends on factors like your home's size, insulation, and overall energy requirements. Larger homes or those with poor insulation use more energy than smaller, well-insulated spaces. A professional furnace assessment can help confirm the ideal unit size for your needs.
