"Our natural gas furnace stopped working the day after Christmas. Most heating services were closed for the holidays but Ocean State was one of the few who would take the Friday afternoon call. Repair were done quickly and heat was back before it was cocktail hour. Ocean State is now our primary HVAC service provider."

"Chris was quick to respond to our request for a quote for a new furnace. We had requested quotes from several other companies and most didn't respond, call back or show up when they said they would. He was very friendly & knowledgeable. He sent us a quote the same day. We are very happy with our choice to have CMA Heating & Air install our new furnace. We would highly recommend him!"

"MTS was quick to respond to our call and evaluate our system. While they found nothing that required repair right now, they did help us understand the timeline for potentially replacing our system. My only disappointment is that I haven't received the replacement quote they said they would provide."

"I've never left a review before but felt the need to leave one for these guys. I hired Premier to install two new heat pump systems in two apartments in a property I'm renovating. I've worked with lots of contractors over the last year and gotten dozens of quotes from HVAC companies, but these guys were honestly incredible. HVAC can feel like such a black box but Mike and Steve really go above and beyond to help you understand why they are recommending a certain system, what the alternative options are, and the pros and cons of each. No one responded to my nonstop questions faster than Mike and Mike and Steve spent over an hour with me walking me through the house, explaining their install plan and making sure I was good with it. They also give you the same attention after they've won your business as they do when they're trying to win it (which is not always the case with some contractors), and they're very reasonably priced. Mike and Steve also completely saved my a .s.s. when temperatures dropped below -10. While they were at my house making sure the new heat pumps were working well in the sub zero temps, my water pipes in basement started to burst. Instead of just telling me to call a plumber, Mike and Steve stayed for the next 5 hours in the middle of the day on a Saturday cutting out and replacing the pipes as the areas that had burst started to spring leaks, making sure that as the water thawed there were no more leaks, and making sure that my tenants all had water before they left. They did not have to do this, but they did anyway. I can't recommend them enough. Anyone who needs HVAC work done should reach out to them."

"Great knowledge and easy to work with even over the phone and picture exchange. A pleasure to work with. Josh and his team did a fantastic job replacing my very old natural gas boiler. Kept on time with the install when it finally quit 1.5 days earlier than the scheduled install. All this and I saved 20% of my 3 quotes. Would highly recommend and I would gladly do business with again. Thanks so much!!"

FAQs for furnace / forced air heating system install or replace projects in Barrington, RI

Converting from an oil furnace to an electric furnace isn't a simple swap—the oil system needs to be completely removed before installing the electric furnace. You'll need a full electric system installation, but you might be able to reuse existing ductwork if it's up to current safety standards. You’ll need to budget for a new electric furnace installation, which costs between $1,800 and $6,200, including professional removal, proper disposal, and safe installation of the new system.

Electric furnaces are 100% efficient at converting electricity into heat. However, some of that heat can be lost as it travels through your home's ductwork or escapes through poorly insulated areas. That's why regular duct maintenance and proper home insulation are important to maximize your furnace's efficiency and reduce heat loss, ensuring consistent warmth and lower energy costs.

With proper maintenance, an electric furnace can last anywhere from 20 to 30 years, outlasting the average gas furnace's lifespan of 15 to 20 years. To keep your electric furnace running efficiently, schedule regular cleanings, tighten connections, and have inspections done before winter arrives. With routine maintenance, you’ll ensure consistent, safe heating for years to come.

The size of the electric furnace you need depends on factors like your home's square footage, climate, and insulation quality. As a general guideline, those who live in warmer climates should multiply their square footage by 30 to 35 BTUs, while those in cooler areas should multiply it by 50 to 60 BTUs.

Consulting with an HVAC professional can help you determine the exact size that's right for your home.

An electric furnace works by converting electricity into heat using high-resistance heating elements. A blower then pushes the warm air through your home's ductwork, distributing heat evenly throughout your space. Since there's no combustion involved, electric furnaces eliminate the risks associated with gas furnaces and provide consistent, reliable heating when properly installed.

An electric furnace uses between 40 and 80 kilowatts per day to heat your home. The exact amount it uses depends on factors like your home's size, insulation, and overall energy requirements. Larger homes or those with poor insulation use more energy than smaller, well-insulated spaces. A professional furnace assessment can help confirm the ideal unit size for your needs.
