Mustang Home Services was founded on a lifetime of service, hard work, and earning trust the right way.\nAfter 27 years in the United States Navy, our founder retired as a Chief Warrant Officer, having worked his way up from the most junior enlisted rank. That journey shaped everything Mustang Home Services stands for—discipline, accountability, and respect for the people you serve. Nothing was handed over; every milestone was earned through consistency, leadership, and getting the job done right.\nThe name Mustang is a nod to that path. In the Navy, a Mustang is someone who rises through the enlisted ranks and earns a commission—someone who understands the work at every level and leads by example. That same mindset drives how we serve our customers today: hands‑on, knowledgeable, and committed to excellence without shortcuts.\nAfter spending most of a military career moving from duty station to duty station, we made the decision to finally put down roots and call Virginia Beach home. "I had American Mechanical install a heat pump system in September of 2012. At the time, I purchased a ten-year warranty. A capacitor recently burned out, and American Mechanical honored the warranty, making the repair at no cost to me."

"After Eric G. came out to do my spring tuneup on my Air Conditioner and found some problems, we discussed repair vs. replacing the system. Due to its age and condition, I decided it would be more cost effective to replace at this time. Eric did a great job costing out several different options for my consideration, and we discussed some issues I had with the effectiveness of my old system. He suggested some changes and additions to my ductwork, and advised that the existing furnace was insufficent for the size of my home. I agreed to a high efficiency system, as well as some changes to the venting, and he reviewed the costs in detail. We arranged for installation the next day. Eric did a great job explaining the contract options, as well as addressing my past concerns with my old system.
Elliott S. came out next AM and proceeded with the installation. Everything went very smoothly, and the installation was completed the next day. They installed the outside AC unit, the furnace in the attic along with a new media air cleaner and thermostat.
I was very pleased with the installation. Elliott did a great job. He was courteous, considerate and helpful throughout the process. He made sure everything was done right and should be commended for his professionalism and energetic attitude.
I am very happy with the new system, which is working much better than my old one. I would highly recommend Russell's if you are looking for a company to repair or install your HVAC equipment.

Converting from an oil furnace to an electric furnace isn't a simple swap—the oil system needs to be completely removed before installing the electric furnace. You'll need a full electric system installation, but you might be able to reuse existing ductwork if it's up to current safety standards. You’ll need to budget for a new electric furnace installation, which costs between $1,800 and $6,200, including professional removal, proper disposal, and safe installation of the new system.
Electric furnaces are 100% efficient at converting electricity into heat. However, some of that heat can be lost as it travels through your home's ductwork or escapes through poorly insulated areas. That's why regular duct maintenance and proper home insulation are important to maximize your furnace's efficiency and reduce heat loss, ensuring consistent warmth and lower energy costs.
With proper maintenance, an electric furnace can last anywhere from 20 to 30 years, outlasting the average gas furnace's lifespan of 15 to 20 years. To keep your electric furnace running efficiently, schedule regular cleanings, tighten connections, and have inspections done before winter arrives. With routine maintenance, you’ll ensure consistent, safe heating for years to come.
The size of the electric furnace you need depends on factors like your home's square footage, climate, and insulation quality. As a general guideline, those who live in warmer climates should multiply their square footage by 30 to 35 BTUs, while those in cooler areas should multiply it by 50 to 60 BTUs.
Consulting with an HVAC professional can help you determine the exact size that's right for your home.
An electric furnace works by converting electricity into heat using high-resistance heating elements. A blower then pushes the warm air through your home's ductwork, distributing heat evenly throughout your space. Since there's no combustion involved, electric furnaces eliminate the risks associated with gas furnaces and provide consistent, reliable heating when properly installed.
An electric furnace uses between 40 and 80 kilowatts per day to heat your home. The exact amount it uses depends on factors like your home's size, insulation, and overall energy requirements. Larger homes or those with poor insulation use more energy than smaller, well-insulated spaces. A professional furnace assessment can help confirm the ideal unit size for your needs.
