"I had an emergency and JR Insulation Drywall did an amazing job. I had just sold my house, and in the process of moving, the movers broke a pipe that had to be repaired behind a wall on the day we gave possession to the new owners. I called JR Insulation Drywall and they were there the same day I called and did a wonderful job of the repair. Responsive, quality, and for a great price. Would definitely hire again if I needed help. I so appreciated their help in a stressful time for me."

"On day 1 they removed (sucked out) 3 levels (and three different types) of insulation. They were very neat and cleaned up afterward. They showed me pictures of the cleared attic. On day 2 they blew in new insulation, sealed an unused vent (which was causing a draft) and installed a new attic hatch (old one was broken, unsealed and not insulated causing a draft). Everything was done as agreed and in the timeline expected. They are also a partner with Energy Trust of Oregon which is a bonus."

"Did a great job of installing insulation and drywall however, they cracked a wall when installing the drywall, they hammered rather than screw it into the studs. Now I must repair the cracked wall. Somehow my compact florescent light also disappeared from the laundry room . They also initially wanted to put the R-30 insulation on top of the R-11 that was already in the ceiling. When compressed the insulation would have lost some of its insulating capabilities so I had to tell them not to do that. Seems they should have known this."

We have had Phil do many projects for us over several years.  His work is meticulous and very cost effective.  He does not cut corners, and is good at planning out the work and showing diagrams for major projects.

On this job it was an activity that we knew would take several weeks.  As the house was empty between renters leaving and selling, Phil was able to completely remove the insulation from the crawl space and replace it, a necessity after rodent issues.  That was the original commissioned work.  He also noted the novel idea for boarding up the insulation from underneath to help deter the rodents, which we also agreed to have him do.

During his insulation work he noted the issues of the rodents getting into the duct insulation, as well as poorly connected ducts, and even a fallen duct.  We added this work on.

Even though it took longer than we originally anticipated given the additional items to be done, Phil finished all the work in a timely fashion to meet our selling timeline, and not interfere with the start of realtors coming onsite.  And with one that he accidentally ran into, he even talked up the house and neighborhood on our behalf.  Thanks!

Post all this work the crawl space looked beautiful, and certainly turned a dismal space into a selling point.  Feel free to check out the photos Phil took during the process: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0Byj-qncyomXmN1lnLThUZkxvSHc/view?usp=sharing

Along with the crawl space work we asked him to replace two support boards on both sides of the garage door.  The garage door installer had used untreated wood, and left it exposed unpainted.  It was that way for more than a season and it had already started raining out.  Phil painted treated wood inside the garage ahead of time and replaced it to look outside as if it was a perfect match and fit, and original.

Lastly on this project we asked him to replace a failing ceiling light in one of the spare bedrooms.  He convinced us to replace it with a more energy efficient LED light that provided more lumens to the room than the original incandescent.  This was surely an additional benefit during house showings.

Overall this project went great.  Another testament to Phil's engineering skills and quality, at a very reasonable price.  We definitely recommend him!

"I highly recommend Portland Construction. Chuy responded quickly to my initial call, came over to evaluate the job, provided an estimate and was able to schedule the repair within a few days. I am very pleased with the quality of his work. Chuy will definitely be my go to contractor in the future."

"I purchased through Angie's List (great price!) and sent in several times for appt but didn't get a response. But when I called I was able to set up an appt within the week so it was all fine with me. There was some delay the day of the appt. BUT I was told well in advance that there would be a 1 hour delay and it was really only 45 minutes. Dean was very professional - considerate of space , i.e. he took off his shoes without asking to go upstairs to check the thermostat. Changed out the filter when I was not expecting this. He was very good about explaining a problem with the furnace and my options and what to take into consideration. I would use them again and will consider them for installing a new furnace."

"Salvador arrived when he said he would, stayed for a few hours. He showed us what he was doing and took the time to explain the results and what our options are to improve the insulation in our house. We received a quote in the mail a few days later, which covered everything we had talked about, broken down in pieces (attic, basement, exterior walls) in case we can't do it all at once. I also spoke to Rob one phone and he was very willing to work with us on what we will do ourselves. Great experience overall. We have already hired them to insulate the attic."

"My husband and I bought our house in June 2012. The central AC unit has been working fine, but we don't know much about it (first-time home owners) and we've never had it serviced. Portland is in the midst of unusually long-lasting hot weather so I thought it would be a good idea to have it looked it. Our AC unit would also blow normal air after being on for about 6 hours so we wanted to make sure we weren't doing something wrong.
I looked at the deals listed, and called around to many places to see how quickly they could come out. All other places were booked out a few weeks (understandable for summer, especially in the midst of this unusual weather). SunGlow was able to come within a few days. I did call them the next day after I purchased the deal as I did not want to wait for them to call me.
The technician arrived on-time which was great. He was very polite. He asked what the problem was and my husband explained to him that we are first-time home owners, we've been using the unit but don't know much about it, and that it occasionally blows non-cold air. He was nervous telling the technician that as the tech could have taken advantage of us and tried to sell us something we didn't need, as we wouldn't have known better. That was not the case, however. The technician kindly took a look at our unit and explained many things to my husband that we didn't know. Things about proper usage and how to clean the air filter. The filter was filthy and he told us how often to clean it/change it and showed us where it was. He also let us know that our unit would blow normal air sometimes because the coil that controls the temperature is pretty dirty. My husband asked if we needed a new one, and the tech said no, not for a long time. He told us that we could clean it, but to also put our unit on auto after about 3 hours of running, let it run on auto for an hour, then switch it back to on, and that would let the coil kind of reset it's temperature. That was very helpful to know.
He was at our house less than an hour but was very helpful. We did what he said yesterday, and I do notice a difference in the temperature already.
We will use this company again in the future for any heating/cooling needs.

FAQs for insulation service projects in Bridal Veil, OR

Local and federal rebates are available for insulation installation, which can significantly reduce your overall costs. Many utility companies offer incentives or rebates to homeowners who improve their home's energy efficiency. Contact your local energy provider or government agencies to learn about available programs in your area, and consult with a professional insulation installer to maximize your savings.

It's not necessary to remove old insulation before adding new insulation, as long as the existing insulation is in good condition—dry, free of mold, and not damaged. Adding new insulation on top of old insulation can improve your home's energy efficiency by increasing the overall R-value. However, if the old insulation is wet, moldy, or damaged, it's best to remove it before installing new insulation to prevent potential health risks and ensure optimal performance.

Insulating a house takes between five and twelve hours for batts or boards, and two to five hours for spray foam or blown-in insulation. The exact time depends on the size of your home, the type of insulation, and the accessibility of the areas being insulated. Keep in mind that projects may take longer if old insulation needs removal, if there's a larger square footage, or if spaces are difficult to reach.
