"The job went well, very brief and surprisingly inexpensive. (I understand everyone has to live, so I expected to pay for a livelihood, but I was delighted to have my wallet only lightly crimped.) Bertie Walsh arrived around the agreed time.  I gave him the two grab bars the VA decided I needed in my bathing area, an old retired vet in a wheelchair, like me. I live alone, in a condo, so I needed a handyman to install them.
I'm glad I had a professional person install them because, even if I were fit, I surely would have botched the job. This place was cut up into condos in 1987. It used to be just a red brick factory-- originally constructed around the turn of the 20th century to work with Brockton by making those metal lacing eyelets for boots. They used metal--not plywood--when they cut the factory into apartments like mine (Bertie Walsh later explained to me). If I were doing the job myself I would have been expecting wooden studs behind the tile--which would have been full of exploratory holes when I got done.
So, I pointed to the bathroom, assured myself that Bertie Walsh had all he needed, and went to finish watching the program I had on, wondering what I had to offer Mr. Walsh when he broke for lunch soon. How pleased I was when that time arrived and he said the job was done and that I only owed him $50!
Bertie Walsh explained to me that the grab bars were firm, but that he had to install them in the metal. Should they loosen, over time, do not risk injury, by all means call him.

"The work was of the highest quality. All the old trim, clapboards that needed replacing and any other debris were removed daily from the site. The owner and crew explained to me what was happening and why. Our house is old, so there were unanticipated issues after the trim was removed. We received a thorough explanation about what additional work needed to be done. I have many relatives who work in the trades, and I recognize the superior craftsmanship and skill of this crew and owner. I called the office on a Thursday and he was able to come out the following Tuesday, which was significantly quicker than anywhere else we called (if they even answered the phone, because most didn’t). Derek is very communicative, easy to work with and transparent about materials and cost. He was super friendly, always on time, and sent updates with pictures about how the job was going. He looked at other places around the house as well, that might need repairs first, as we were looking to paint the house later this summer. "I contacted four companies for estimates for the work. One company responded that they don't paint detached garages, and another gave me an appointment two weeks in the future. Carlos was the first to come out (within a couple days, working around my schedule) to look at the work needed. I mentioned that I just needed the concrete block and wood trim done, and that I would paint the doors myself. He offered to do that work since they would be there anyway. Since I'm pretty busy, I appreciated that. He did not give me an estimate on the spot, and I prefer that approach as I think a company should take some time to come up with their estimate. The fourth company gave me an estimate on the spot which turned out to be very high. I received the estimate from Carlos via email about a week later. The price was excellent, and Carlos seemed like a good and honest person, so I hired him immediately, and canceled that future appointment. Carlos and the crew came out within a couple of days. I had purchased the masonry paint already, since I had originally planned to do the painting myself, so Carlos had agreed to use my paint. He provided his own primer, which he had tinted to match my color choice. The crew applied a coat of primer, and two of paint. With the exception of one small communication error, which Carlos cleared up immediately, everything went perfectly. Carlos is very responsive, and it is clear that he and his crew take pride in doing a great job. My garage was looking beautiful ( as beautiful as concrete block can look) within a couple days. I will definitely hire Real Painting & Home Improvement again in the future."
