"For the most part, I was satisfied with the services from the StepGuys. <br /> I broke out the experience into few areas to help illustrate the and quot;goodand quot; and and quot;areas for improvementand quot;. <br /> PRICING <br /> -Excellent. A or A+. These guys are extremely competitive in pricing and their product pricing will undercut any custom stair solution for your home. <br /> ESTIMATE PROCESS <br /> -Excellent. Sales guys are prompt, courteous, knowledgeable, etc. <br /> WAITING PROCESS <br /> -Satisfactory. I was quoted a wait period of 5-6 weeks. I took several weeks longer than that for them to build the steps off-site, due to delays caused by the railings. <br /> IMPLEMENTATION <br /> -Needing some improvement. This is partly my fault. The day that they came for install there was torrential downpours. Hindsight 20/20, I should have sent them away and asked for them to come back at a later date. However, it was indicated that there would be no problem. The trucks tore up the sod on my front lawn, and did significant damage to my irrigation system as well. When they completed the step-install, no cleanup was done. They hauled away the old steps, but left pieces on my lawn, such as a 8 foot cross-support beam for me to dispose of. In addition, to install the stairs, they had to rip up some of my brick walkway. About 100 bricks were left scattered on my lawn and mulch areas. It was about 30 minutes of cleanup for me to take care of. Not huge deal, but inconvenient. <br /> Because it was raining so hard, they couldn't install the railings the same day. It took them about 3 weeks to get them to come back to install the railings. I received the bill for the stairs prior to the job being completed (not a biggie either, but I found strange). <br /> QUALITY OF PRODUCT <br /> -TBD - The aesthetic look of the product is excellent. I am very happy with it. However, the true judge will be the durability of the stairs over time (wear, and whether there is any and quot;settling/movingand quot; over time). I will revise this post after 1 year to update the status of the stairs. <br /> <br />"

"Some water was getting into my basement. I couldn't identify how the water was getting in. So I started contacting all these basement companies. Each one was telling me (based on a video I shot of the issue) that they couldn't help me. At first Luke with Attack a Crack said that, but he was prompt to get back to me, and he suggested that I talk to a handyman. (Other companies didn't give me suggestions). I said the handyman doesn't feel comfortable fixing it. So Luke suggested that I take some pictures of the issue. I sent him pictures and based on my pictures he told me where he thinks the leak/crack is coming from. He was very specific too. He said its coming from your front porch step, not one step below. And sure enough, I lifted up the mat on the front porch and there was a crack in the foundation. (I poured a cup of water over the crack and it started to leak into the basement. We've found the culprit!) He was so patient with me, and allowed me to ask all these questions. And he let me send all these pictures via text. Which saves both of us a lot of time."

"Jason surpassed all competitors and my wildest expectations with respect to price, quality, and speed in which he constructed the front steps with stone work integrated into the facade and granite treads. I had already been informed that once demolished, my new staircase would need to include an additional step in order to be up to code. I had two quotes, and got Kirby's number from a neighbor that had a very impressive staircase recently constructed. Jason's quote was more than $1,000 below the previous lowest estimate, which I liked immediately, but he also demolished my old staircase and constructed a beautiful new one with the additional step, and completed all pointing of my stonework surrounding the stairs in a SINGLE DAY. When it was clear it was going to rain that day, he said "No problem" and built a tent around the workspace in order to complete the job. As if all that weren't enough, I had asked he incorporate a number of stones that matched the foundation of my porch into the stairs and he did it beautifully. I am happy to write him a detailed review on Angie's List which is the only thing he asked for in return. I will definitely call Kirby Masonry for projects in the future and would recommend them to anyone. Cheers!"

"I received quotes for three different options - the cedar fence, an alternative in vinyl, and a repair of the broken fence. The sales guy was very easy to get hold of and provided the quotes promptly. I went with the cedar and it was installed in two days. For some reason, the old fence posts had been sunk in concrete, and all the concrete had to be removed. The yard was cleaned up both days, and the fence came out really nice. <br> <br>18 months later, the fence still looks good."

"It was an excellent experience start to finish. Louie, Andrew, Lourdes, and the whole family were a pleasure to work with. They are true professionals who take pride in their work. They do things the right way and don't take any shortcuts. They were meticulous in their planning and explained everything along the way. There were several unexpected obstacles that came up and Louie and Andrew were able to resolve them and still finish the project two weeks ahead of schedule. Louie was always reachable and always on time, and did a fantastic job of communicating throughout the entire project. I would highly recommend Ranieri Construction to anyone looking to re-do their pool patio. They are pool experts and caught alot of things other concrete contractors wouldn't have. I am extremely pleased with the results and plan to use them again for other work in the future."

FAQs for concrete patios, walks & steps installation projects in Abington, MA

Most sidewalks rely on a ready‑mix blend of Portland cement, sand, gravel, and water that trucks deliver to your site and pour in one continuous lift. For added strength, many contractors fold in fiber mesh or steel reinforcement. This mix cures into a rock‑solid slab that stands up to foot traffic, freeze‑thaw cycles, and daily wear for decades. Expect a pro to recommend a 4‑inch‑thick pour for standard walkways.

With the right mix, proper drainage, and routine upkeep, a concrete sidewalk can last 25 to 50 years. Freeze‑thaw cycles, road salt, and heavy loads all shorten that timeline, but sealing every few years and patching small cracks early keeps damage in check. Think of sealing as inexpensive insurance for decades of safe, stable footing. In milder climates, some slabs push well past the 30‑year mark without major repairs.

Concrete sidewalks crack as a result of significant temperature fluctuations and heavy load pressures. The freeze-thaw cycles and sustained weight from vehicles or intense foot traffic force the concrete to develop cracks over time. Applying a premium sealant every two to three years and substituting salt with sand for de-icing minimizes crack formation. Regular maintenance and timely repairs safeguard the sidewalk’s structural integrity and extend its service life.
