"I needed my basement stairs rebuilt due to a basement remodel. Stephen listened to my requirements, double-checked some issues with the building dept, and came to work. He demo'd the old stairs, built the new stairs to spec, and cleaned up all of the mess. He was prompt, and the build quality was excellent. I plan on adding a deck to my house in the future, and I'll definitely consider Dodd Construction for that job."

"The work went very well.  We had a few rain delays, but that could not be helped.  Also we were coordinating other work with another contractor (see R and R Concrete) that sometimes caused delays. They showed up when expected, excavated one side of the house and dug holes on the other (walk out basement) for the piers.  When finished the yard was repaired as good as could be expected for St Louis summer. I have a little work to do on it now that it has cooled off. I had to have cracks repaired inside and concrete work done on the outside.  The people they recommended did wonderful work. <br />"

"I am in the process of buying a new home and wanted an expert opinion of the water drainage on the property and called Water Solutions to make an appointment. I knew Water Solutions provided free estimates and told them that I wanted an inspection of the property for potential water drainage problems and requested a price for this service. I was told there would be no charge. On the day of the appointment, representative, Mr. Walt Latham, arrived on time and after a discussion of my concerns he proceeded to walk the property. Mr. Latham pointed out potential areas of concern and advised on how to mitigate any problems. He also conducted an inspection of the walkout basement and highlighted areas that should be addressed to prevent any future problems. It is hard to believe that Water Solutions spent all this time with me and provided so much information at no charge. Because of Mr. Latham's professionalism and expertise I feel better about continuing with the purchase of the house. I would highly recommend Water Solutions and would seek their services should I ever need their expertise."

FAQs for concrete patios, walks & steps installation projects in Adams, NE

Most sidewalks rely on a ready‑mix blend of Portland cement, sand, gravel, and water that trucks deliver to your site and pour in one continuous lift. For added strength, many contractors fold in fiber mesh or steel reinforcement. This mix cures into a rock‑solid slab that stands up to foot traffic, freeze‑thaw cycles, and daily wear for decades. Expect a pro to recommend a 4‑inch‑thick pour for standard walkways.

With the right mix, proper drainage, and routine upkeep, a concrete sidewalk can last 25 to 50 years. Freeze‑thaw cycles, road salt, and heavy loads all shorten that timeline, but sealing every few years and patching small cracks early keeps damage in check. Think of sealing as inexpensive insurance for decades of safe, stable footing. In milder climates, some slabs push well past the 30‑year mark without major repairs.

Concrete sidewalks crack as a result of significant temperature fluctuations and heavy load pressures. The freeze-thaw cycles and sustained weight from vehicles or intense foot traffic force the concrete to develop cracks over time. Applying a premium sealant every two to three years and substituting salt with sand for de-icing minimizes crack formation. Regular maintenance and timely repairs safeguard the sidewalk’s structural integrity and extend its service life.
