"Robert was very responsive and told me that I could have my leak fixed rather than replacing my whole roof. He repaired the leak and I haven't had any more issues with it. A few years later he came back after a storm and was honest with me that I didn't need replacement after a few shingles were lifted by wind. I really appreciate his honesty."

"The technician was on time and professional. He climbed up on the roof and examined it. He reported that there was no damages, but a couple of shingles needed repair. He repaired the loose shingles for no charge This service gave me great confidence in the firm. I would use them in the future."

"They handled everything with the adjustor for our insurance company.  Everything was handled in a timely manner.  Ron was great to work with.  We had no issues with the quality of their work.  They also worked around my scheduling and pricing with them was very good.  Their estimate was the best our of several we received.  I love my roof and their clean-up was perfect.  They are the only company I would use."

"The house had been hit by a power surge/possible lightning and our <br /> refrigerator and ac/heat had been knocked out.  I had two different <br /> technicians come to the house.  One for the electricity and one for the <br /> heat and air.  The electrician was quick and efficient.  The heat and <br /> air technician had to come out 2 days in a row to fix the problem.  <br /> Justin was awesome, very personable, and tenacious. He kept me in the loop by <br /> explaining what he was doing and why.  He discussed how much parts <br /> were.  He put everything he had into figuring out what all was wrong <br /> with the heat/ac unit.  When he couldn't figure out the final thing <br /> wrong because he had exhausted all possibilities that he knew to do, he called in more help <br /> and had a team help him.  They worked tirelessly as a team and figured <br /> it out.  When the heat/ac goes out again or if I ever buy a new one, I am <br /> requesting Justin.  By the way, he never pushed a new unit sale on me and for <br /> that reason I would buy one from him.  For those that complain about how much they charge, remember you are paying for quality of work.  They fix it right the first time.  So, if you need a good heat/ac guy call JE Shekell and ask for Justin.  I know I will. <br />"

"The installation took less than 3 hours. They showed up exactly when they said they would, were very polite, courteous, and professional.  The concrete cracked on the the first cute, but they cut a new spot a few inches over so that it would be aesthetically appealing...but, more importantly so that we would have any issues with leakage.  They cleaned up the mess VERY, VERY well.  I would highly recommend them and use them again. <br />"

"We purchased a home about a year ago and began having shingles come off. Called prior owner who referred us to local roofer. This roofer said they told owner he needed a new roof on the 26 times they came out to replace shingles. Called builder and he said roof was subcontracted out and roof was installed improperly. Builder said owner received monetary compensation to replace roof. None of this information was on Seller's Property Disclosure. Contacted a lawyer who said we needed an estimate to replace. No one wanted to get involved since this was a legal matter. Chris with A1 came right out and provided written estimate. We just received check and look forward to A1 replacing our roof. Will write another review after work is complete."

FAQs for roofing installation & roof repair projects in Allendale, IL

An average Cape Cod roof-raising project requires approximately two to three months from start to finish. The timeline depends on several variables, including weather conditions, contractor availability, material delivery schedules, and the specific complexity of your home's structure. The process involves multiple phases, including demolition, framing, roofing, window installation, and interior finishing. Working with an experienced contractor who provides a detailed timeline can help set realistic expectations for the project duration.

While most Cape Cod homes can accommodate roof-raising modifications, each house requires individual structural assessment. Older homes may need foundation reinforcement or wall strengthening before supporting additional weight. Factors like the existing roof framing system, load-bearing wall placement, and overall structural integrity all influence feasibility. A qualified structural engineer should evaluate your specific property before proceeding with design plans. Additionally, local zoning ordinances may restrict maximum building height or architectural modifications in certain neighborhoods.

Temporary relocation is highly recommended during a Cape Cod roof raising project. The construction process involves removing portions of your existing roof, exposing interior spaces to potential weather damage, and creating significant noise and dust. Most homeowners find temporary accommodations for the two to three-month construction period, with relocation costs ranging from $2,000 to $6,000, depending on your housing choices. If staying with family or friends isn't possible, budget for short-term rental or extended-stay hotel expenses as part of your overall project cost.

Consider roof raising when you experience severely limited headroom throughout the second floor, find yourself constantly stooping under sloped ceilings, or have minimal usable floor space due to low ceiling heights. Other indicators include inadequate natural light, poor ventilation, and difficulty accommodating standard furniture in upstairs rooms. Simple renovations can improve an attic's appearance, but cannot create additional headroom without structural modifications. A complete roof-raising project makes more sense than cosmetic renovations if you're seeking genuine second-floor living space rather than just storage improvements.

Begin your search by seeking contractors with specific experience in Cape Cod structural modifications and dormer additions. Request detailed portfolios showing similar completed projects and ask for references from previous clients with comparable work. Verify that potential contractors hold appropriate licenses and insurance coverage and understand local building codes relevant to roof raising. Interview multiple candidates, comparing price quotes and their communication style, project approach, and proposed timeline. The ideal contractor should demonstrate a thorough understanding of Cape Cod architectural characteristics and structural requirements.
