Small jobs welcome

"Felipe and his team did a great job repairing our brick walk that had severe cracks in it. They also installed a small brick step for a side door. They were professional, timely, and very responsive. They started and completed the job within a week of coming to our house and giving us a bid. And they left the site very clean. I would definitely use them again."

"Cousins concrete did a great job tearing out the old concrete stairs and then reforming the new stairs. They also widened my driveway which turned out fantastic!"

"I saw Paul doing some tree work for the man that sold me my house after an ice storm.  I asked him to come over and take care of the one in my front yard.  My wife and I were sitting in the family room shortly thereafter when the whole house shook like incoming artillery. I rushed out to the front yard and there was Paul and his associate cutting up the trunk of the three. It was gone that evening."

"I got four estimates and Keating was on the low side because they werent preforming water proofing on the foundation, I didnt really need it. Keating was a bit more professional in their initial contact showing and discussing the problems.Keating started the <br /> jobs a few weeks after I accecpted the bid, this time period was quicker than the other companies estimates by months. The job took 3 days and they showed up on time and left on time every day. There was not alot of noise from the drilling and 4 of the pier <br /> holes had to be dug by hand. They had at about 6 guys on the job each day and.they let me know what was going on including <br /> watching as the southeast side was lifted some 2 inches to correct the problem. Good group of guys all business. I was happy with <br /> the job they performed. <br /> <br />"

"The work went very well.  We had a few rain delays, but that could not be helped.  Also we were coordinating other work with another contractor (see R and R Concrete) that sometimes caused delays. They showed up when expected, excavated one side of the house and dug holes on the other (walk out basement) for the piers.  When finished the yard was repaired as good as could be expected for St Louis summer. I have a little work to do on it now that it has cooled off. I had to have cracks repaired inside and concrete work done on the outside.  The people they recommended did wonderful work. <br />"

"They got in here and got the work done on time so that our house could be put in position on time. They did things like putting special thicker walls in our basement to support the walls because our house is so long and that the basement wall will not cave in due to the changes in the weather and moisture. Since we had to dig out for our front porch, they recommended that we pour that all as concrete to make it a safe room for us in the basement so we have a storm shelter in our basement."

FAQs for concrete patios, walks & steps installation projects in Alma, KS

Most sidewalks rely on a ready‑mix blend of Portland cement, sand, gravel, and water that trucks deliver to your site and pour in one continuous lift. For added strength, many contractors fold in fiber mesh or steel reinforcement. This mix cures into a rock‑solid slab that stands up to foot traffic, freeze‑thaw cycles, and daily wear for decades. Expect a pro to recommend a 4‑inch‑thick pour for standard walkways.

With the right mix, proper drainage, and routine upkeep, a concrete sidewalk can last 25 to 50 years. Freeze‑thaw cycles, road salt, and heavy loads all shorten that timeline, but sealing every few years and patching small cracks early keeps damage in check. Think of sealing as inexpensive insurance for decades of safe, stable footing. In milder climates, some slabs push well past the 30‑year mark without major repairs.

Concrete sidewalks crack as a result of significant temperature fluctuations and heavy load pressures. The freeze-thaw cycles and sustained weight from vehicles or intense foot traffic force the concrete to develop cracks over time. Applying a premium sealant every two to three years and substituting salt with sand for de-icing minimizes crack formation. Regular maintenance and timely repairs safeguard the sidewalk’s structural integrity and extend its service life.
