"Because the yard was a spiderweb of buried gas, cable and telephone lines (condo), the new line had to be trenched in by hand (about 65 feet). Working around bunches of unmarked buried cables (thanks, Gopher One Call!) undoubtedly added to the cost. Digging a trench through the entire length of the yard made for one heck of a mess (no way around it in such close confines). I was amazed that, after the workers tidied up the site, we could hardly tell that anything had been done! The new service drop was properly installed in plastic conduit (unlike the shoddy, "cost saving" work done by the original contractor), and everything is working just fine. Capelles Electric treats customers right and focuses on quality. The company actually turns down new construction work from builders that want cut-rate electrical work. In fact, if my condo's contractor had "done the job right" from the get-go, the $3000 repair would never have been necessary. With 24 units in my condo-plex, which power drop is next in line to fail... ?"

"I had some friends over late Friday evening and we were going to hit the hot tub.  Much to my dismay, removing the cover revealed a half-inch layer of ice instead of steamy, swirly goodness.  I did some basic checking: I looked in the panel and saw the breaker was tripped, tried to reset and it tripped again immediately.  So I went upstairs and removed the service disconnect from the hot tub, tried to flip the breaker again, and it still tripped immediately.  So I knew it was either a short in the wiring due to the extreme cold or a bad breaker.
I searched for an electrician and found ES&S, called Rob for emergency service and eventually got someone sent out.  It was late on Friday when this started, and it was later still by the time the electrician showed up.  The man on site was great, he was helpful, thorough, and friendly.  We got the breaker out of the panel and tested it, getting it to set successfully out of the panel.  When it stayed set after being wired back in, we knew it was the breaker going bad and moved to replace it.  He put in a regular 50 amp and we went up to make sure the tub started.
Of course, we had some frozen hoses by then, and the guy was good enough to lend me an extension cord and hang around for a  while as we put hairdryers and heaters under the hot tub to thaw things out and get it running again.  While we waited, he addressed some other minor issues around the house, and though he did leave before we got it working, my wife and I went to bed with a working hot tub at about 3 AM.
I talked to Rob a few days later and scheduled another trip to replace the standard breaker they had left with a GFI model. They had no GFI's when they came out originally so this was an additional visit.  I also asked to go over the charges. He discussed callout, time-and-a-half for late night, the cost of the breaker itself, and the trip to install the GFI, and gave me an overall total of $440.
The electrician showed up on time to replace the breaker again, and five minutes later was on his way.  This was about a week after the original event, but I now had a working, properly safe, hot tub again.  Another week or so goes by and I finally get the bill for $520 - almost 20% over what I had been quoted.

UPDATE: After my original review, Rob contacted me and after some discussion, we were able to reach a resolution. I have amended my review to reflect the additional services provided and the resolution on the billing.  We agreed to meet in the middle and based on some other estimates I received, the price is more fair than I initially believed.  I have to give Rob credit for reaching out after my original review posted, and I am glad we were able to reach a mutually acceptable resolution. We both had some challenges with this repair but based on how things ended up, I will use ES&S again as an electrical service provider."

"

Somehow my laptop corrupted the operating system and would not even boot up. Alexander Technical Resources (Spencer) came to my house to try to repair my computer. We decided that my computer needed to go to their repair facility for some serious work. They were able to save all my data, ran thorough diagnostics and repaired my computer. It was such a relief that I did not loose and data.

This is the second time I have used them. The first was to set up this very laptop and transfer all the data from my old PC.

I would recommend Alexander Technical Resources and will use them for any other computer repairs.

"We called up Kuntz electric and one of the staff called that same day and came out the next day to do the repair. He had all the tools and made the repair very quickly. He then clean up immediately leaving no trace of his work in the hallway. I wish he had done a neater job taping the hole on the shower side but we are going to cover that tile and the hole with a walk in shower soon. The bill was very reasonable."

"when tech showed up the dryer seemed to be working and heating however it did not when I called, seemed the heating element was cracked creating and off and on working condition. I went ahead to repair the problem by purchasing a new heating element. I was surprised however that the tech expected me to pay in full before he ordered the part and repaired the problem, but I did using my credit card knowing if there was a issue the credit card co. would have my back, The part was order and Alex fixed it as soon as it came in and was great"

"Good thorough inspection. He noted many things we didn't see. The inspection results were in our case good but if they had been critical items we could have used the resjlts to renegotiate with the seller. The inspection gives us a plan for the future. Items not repaired by the seller we can do over time."

"Great customer service their sales person came out within 2 days of calling for an estimate. He was very helpful throughout the entire process. We set up a date that was only a few short weeks after we called. A large group of workers showed up were polite and were done with our new roof in half of a day.Nails and materials were cleaned up great! I was worried about the kids stepping on a nail but only found maybe a few in the landscaping. Called a year later about info on warranty we purchased and again customer service was outstanding. We have recommended Bob's to many friends and family who have also had a great experience!

"We first hired Trevor to replace some rotting boards on our house and paint the exterior of our house. As he was working, he noticed many more areas of rotting boards than we were originally aware of. He went over all of our options and helped guide us with his professional knowlege without swaying us with his personal tastes. He was very flexible with us and the timing of the project since it took us a while to make a final decision. The option we decided to go with was to have all of the original siding removed and replaced with new LP Smart Side wood composite siding. It's a good thing we went with that option because once the siding was off we found some water damage in the back of the house that Trevor needed to repair for us. He was very informative and helpful in this process, letting us know that it would be a good idea to have a gutter person look at this area to prevent any future damage as the gutters were installed improperly. We also realized that we needed to add new window flashing, also due to improper previous installation, and house wrap, which we asked him to do. Once the new siding was installed, Trevor painted the entire exterior of our house. He paid close attention to detail and was very thourough. He even made a great suggestion of a faux wood paint for our front door and garage door. We are very pleased with the new look of our home. It's like a whole new house! Trevor was always prompt and cleaned up any mess that was made. I never noticed any stray nails or paint. He needed to trim a tree to get to the house to paint and he even cleaned up the brush! He also helped us install new exterior light fixtures and door knobs/locks. I feel like he went out of his way to make our house look great! I would definitely use Hamlen Home Improvement for future jobs. In fact we will be having Trevor replace our roof this summer.

FAQs for generator repair projects in Altura, MN

There is often some confusion about the type of work these professionals do. They only work on electrical systems such as outlets, lighting fixtures and electrical panels – they aren’t appliance repairmen.

There are three types of electricians: Master, Journeyman and Apprentice. Electrical licensing varies quite a bit by state. Some have licenses for apprentices and some do not. Some have a master’s rank while others stop at journeyman. Despite the differences, they all require a minimum amount of experience and usually classroom time.

  • Apprentice electricians aren’t usually licensed and spend 4 years learning the trade. Throughout that time, they work on a wide range of projects to learn to become a Journeyman. They’ll do basic work like installing fixtures and replacing outlets all the way to assisting in wiring a home. Regardless of the type of project, they must always be supervised by a Journeyman or Master electrician.

  • Journeymen work without supervision. In a few states, this is the highest level available and they can do all levels of work from wiring a new home to installing a light. In some states, they need a separate electrical contractor license to run a business. In places with a master’s level, a journeyman can do all work besides design new electrical systems.

  • Master electricians usually manage a shop, design new electrical systems in new construction and oversee both Journeyman and Apprentices. They typically bid new projects. Though they focus on larger projects, it’s not unheard of for a homeowner to request a Master Electrician for a house call. If you do, expect to spend up to 25% more for the visit.

Generally, you don’t tip electricians, but that’s not to say they don’t appreciate it if you do. You can offer them something to drink or eat, like coffee and donuts. Most will appreciate it if you do.

The education and certifications required to become an electrician vary by state, though they generally follow this list:

  1. Apprentice

    • Does not always require a license depending on the state.

    • Learns on the job under Journeyman and Master Electricians.

    • Usually needs 4 years on-the-job training before they can test for a Journeyman license. Many states also require a technical degree to advance.

    • Always require supervision.

  2. Journeyman

    • Needs between 8,000 to 10,000 hours of on-the-job training and usually 500 to 1,000 hours of classroom experience.

    • Can usually supervise apprentices.

    • They can diagnose and repair electrical problems.

  3. Master

    • Achieved after an additional two years (4,000 hours) working as a Journeyman and taking the Master Electrician Exam.

    • Besides diagnosing and repairing electrical systems, they also design them. In most places they run shops and inspect Journeyman and Apprentice work.

    • Not a recognized rank in all states.

  4. Electrical Contractor License is an optional license in some states for a Master Electrician to run a business. Some states have this instead of the Master license.

Electricians make an average of $26 per hour but it ranges with experience and licensing. An apprentice may make about half that while a Master Electrician may hit closer to $40 per hour. This figure represents how much they make; not how much they bill. Their salary is only one component of their costs. They must also figure in overhead, taxes, equipment, insurance and several other expenses.

Leave electrical work to the professionals. Electrical systems are complex and potentially hazardous when not handled and installed correctly. If it were easy, it wouldn’t take 4 years to become a journeyman or 6 years for a master’s license. If you are determined to forge ahead yourself, understand home electrical safety before beginning any project.Even for simple common electrical projects, a licensed pro is best. Not only is it safer, but contractors guarantee and insure their work. Hire a professional to keep your home’s electrical systems functioning properly and safely.
