"This was a small repair job, not a new installation. Several other companies weren't interested or never called back. American Eagle replied promptly and sent an estimator out within a week. The work was completed on schedule for a reasonable price. Great job, thanks American Eagle!"

"We signed with Cal-Vintage to replace our roof with stone-coated steel back in Sept 2016. The first time we were rescheduled, they called & let us know. Then our start date came, and no one showed. We called & they let us know they had rescheduled us. Again, the date came, and no one showed. Again, no communication what so ever. A week later they called to check in on us. Not happy. It has been a rainy winter and after being rescheduled multiple times, we all agreed to reschedule in April. One thing we stressed was when pushing out even further, that we didn't want to be then put in the back of the line. Despite having made that clear to Brent, we got a call (at least they called), to let us know we were delayed and there were jobs ahead of us. We have emailed them, and still, no reply. So either they are 6 months behind in work, or they really don't want our business. I'm baffled. Either way, our experience with commutation has been pretty poor."

"I am very pleased with the quality of work. Two years ago, Jeff re-roofed our detached garage and replaced some siding, and made some repairs on the roof of the house. When I was ready to re-roof the house, it was a busy time for roofing. Jeff was able to fit my home in around another other job. Everything was done on time, and the property was kept neat and clean. I liked that Jeff checked the job to make sure it was done properly by his workers, coming back to finish a couple of things himself that I would not even be able to see. The cost was very reasonable, even when adding the additional dry rot repair and barge rafters replacements."

"Byers was amazing in every way. The buying process of was easy, the installation was quick & clean, and my roof and gutters look amazing. I got five quotes for roofing, three quotes for covered gutters and one of the roofing companies offered to "throw in" open gutters with my roofing purchase. I had not purchased roofing or gutters before, so I didn't know what I didn't know. I knew that I wanted a roof with a long warranty and gutters that were covered. I assumed that if you just purchased great shingles, you'd have a great roof. What I quickly learned is that not all roofs or roofing contractors are the same and most roofers also offer gutters. We chose Owens Corning shingles because we liked how they looked and they were a "cool roof", plus I wanted the longest warranty offered. I learned that I needed a Platinum Contractor to get the extended warranty. I also wanted covered gutters that I would never have to clean. All the screened gutter covers required cleaning for the warranty to be in effect, so I had to purchase an enclosed gutter system. Byers was the last company that we received a quote from because when they left my husband and I knew that Byers were the right contractors for us. The difference of their professionalism from the outset was noticeable. Our "lead" roofing contractor prior meeting Byers was a Preferred Contractor with Owens Corning, but not a Platinum Contractor, so they couldn't offer the warranty that Byers could offer. Additionally, they offered a mesh covered gutter system that would require cleaning. It was better than an open gutter, but I didn't want to settle. The "LeafGuard" gutter that Byers offered was an enclosed system and guaranteed that the gutters wouldn't clog and that we didn't need to clean them, ever! The gutters came in several colors. I thought we would pick one of those fancy colors, but we didn't. We ended up just getting white and I'm glad that we did. They look great, nice and clean. While they were installing the roof, we started talking about adding light into the house. We ended up getting two Solatubes one for the kitchen and another for the dining room. Natural light has such a different feel than a light bulb. They only took a few hours to install. It has made a world of difference. I would happily refer them to anyone who is looking for quality workmanship and long lasting quality roof, gutters or skylights."

"My wonderful experience with Harlan Roofing began with calling the office and speaking with Brittany. It continued with meeting Mr. Crocker at my house. He was very generous in explaining what needs to be done and answering my questions. It appears the work by Moses and Francisco was done in professional manner. I thank everyone I came in contact with to get my roof repair done."

"We contacted Straightline Construction to replace our house’s skylight that had a large crack in it (previously plastic). Phil, the Project Manager, was extremely professional and measured our skylight for replacement. He provided us with multiple options, from a standard glass replacement to skylights with shades (manual or solar). We decided on the skylight with a solar shade. Straightline made the process extremely easy. We absolutely loved how it turned out, very high quality. The two person installation team did a great job and even installed the remote to open and close the shade in our kitchen. While installing the skylight they also sealed exposed nails and painted and resealed flashings. I highly recommend Straightline for your roofing needs. (I forgot to take before pictures of the inside of the old skylight. You could hardly see out of it and there was a large crack. Now we see clearly out of it.)"

"We had a list of items needing work that had nagged us for months. We purchased the Big Deal (8 hours of Home Maintenance) and arranged the help from Joe. He was very helpful ahead of the appointment, giving us information about gathering needed materials and procuring a permit. <br /> On appointment day, Joe showed up ready to work and we did a walkthrough  of all the work necessary. He provided us with multiple options for the new security lighting which required a new electrical circuit. We had a bad faucet feeding our icemaker which he fixed in no time. Also he <br /> replaced our main kitchen faucet which had been leaking and frustrating us for a long while. He worked so fast that he had time to install another replacement security light on the opposite side of the house! <br /> We figured he'd be anxious to leave after we completed our list, but surprised us again when he took another hour to explain about kitchen <br /> remodels in general, and gave us estimates for various remodeling scenarios for our specific kitchen. <br /> All in all, Joe Powers was very  professional, honest and an extremely nice guy. We were also happy he took time to explain details as he was working on our maintenance list.  Now we are able to enjoy our new kitchen faucet, icemaker and water dispenser, and feel more secure with the new security lighting. <br />"

"I was selling my house and the buyer was required to get a 2 year roof certification on the roof in order to have their loan underwritten. They hired a roofing contractor to inspect the roof. They returned a report stating that the roof defective due to cracked tiles. The report also (erroneously) stated that the construction method used (Bartile) is obsolete, and that no roofer would even be able to repair it. Of course the inspector offered to replace the roof for $25k! I asked the buyer to give us a week to get a second opinion. I called several roofing companies who specialize in repairing tile roofs. I interviewed five of them seriously, and got estimates from three of them, including D&D. Both of the other bids I got were CONSIDERABLY higher, and neither of those other contractors would guarantee that they could match the broken tiles needing replaced. Then I had Dave Durica come out from D&D roofing. Dave is a VERY experienced roofer who is definitely "old school". He was very professional, and really listened to me when I told him I only wanted to have the broken tiles replaced, and get the 2 year certificate. Unlike the other contractors I spoke to, Dave understood that I am selling the house, and he did not try to upsell me on additional services. I really appreciated the fact that he understood my situation. Dave also said he would do his best to find identical or near-identical matching tiles from his "bone yard" provider. He warned me that this may not be cheap, but he was the only one willing to make the effort to get a match for a relatively small job. What impressed me the most is that Dave got the whole got staged, scheduled, and completed very quickly. He understood that we were in escrow at the time, and that time was of the essence. Once he got the necessary tiles, Dave was back out to the property and got the repair job completed in ONE DAY. This is much faster than the others had quoted me. Even better, he explained how so many tiles (50) had been broken by contractors who had walked on them incorrectly over time. After installing new windows, insulation, and siding with different contractors over the years, it's easy to see how this happened. But it also helps me give my buyer confidence that the roof was not defective, but just damaged. Dave actually provided me a THREE year certificate on the roof, which my buyer was delighted by. It's great to work with a reliable, small local company who does great work, charges very reasonable rates, and scopes the job to the need. Very refreshing... I would recommend D&D for future roof work to anyone, and I will definitely hire them again!"

FAQs for roofing installation & roof repair projects in Applegate, CA

An average Cape Cod roof-raising project requires approximately two to three months from start to finish. The timeline depends on several variables, including weather conditions, contractor availability, material delivery schedules, and the specific complexity of your home's structure. The process involves multiple phases, including demolition, framing, roofing, window installation, and interior finishing. Working with an experienced contractor who provides a detailed timeline can help set realistic expectations for the project duration.

While most Cape Cod homes can accommodate roof-raising modifications, each house requires individual structural assessment. Older homes may need foundation reinforcement or wall strengthening before supporting additional weight. Factors like the existing roof framing system, load-bearing wall placement, and overall structural integrity all influence feasibility. A qualified structural engineer should evaluate your specific property before proceeding with design plans. Additionally, local zoning ordinances may restrict maximum building height or architectural modifications in certain neighborhoods.

Temporary relocation is highly recommended during a Cape Cod roof raising project. The construction process involves removing portions of your existing roof, exposing interior spaces to potential weather damage, and creating significant noise and dust. Most homeowners find temporary accommodations for the two to three-month construction period, with relocation costs ranging from $2,000 to $6,000, depending on your housing choices. If staying with family or friends isn't possible, budget for short-term rental or extended-stay hotel expenses as part of your overall project cost.

Consider roof raising when you experience severely limited headroom throughout the second floor, find yourself constantly stooping under sloped ceilings, or have minimal usable floor space due to low ceiling heights. Other indicators include inadequate natural light, poor ventilation, and difficulty accommodating standard furniture in upstairs rooms. Simple renovations can improve an attic's appearance, but cannot create additional headroom without structural modifications. A complete roof-raising project makes more sense than cosmetic renovations if you're seeking genuine second-floor living space rather than just storage improvements.

Begin your search by seeking contractors with specific experience in Cape Cod structural modifications and dormer additions. Request detailed portfolios showing similar completed projects and ask for references from previous clients with comparable work. Verify that potential contractors hold appropriate licenses and insurance coverage and understand local building codes relevant to roof raising. Interview multiple candidates, comparing price quotes and their communication style, project approach, and proposed timeline. The ideal contractor should demonstrate a thorough understanding of Cape Cod architectural characteristics and structural requirements.
