"I hired C & Brothers Home Improvement for my garage conversion project, and Harold and his team did an excellent job from planning to final completion. In about two weeks, they transformed an unfinished garage into a modern, fully functional living and workspace with recessed lighting, flooring, drywall, trim work, insulation, glass-paneled patio doors, electrical work, and ceiling fan installation. The finished space blends seamlessly with the original home design and no longer feels like a garage at all. Harold was professional, responsive, communicative, and easy to work with throughout the project. The craftsmanship, efficiency, and attention to detail truly brought the vision to life. I’m very grateful to Harold and the C & Brothers Home Improvement team and would absolutely recommend them for future home improvement projects. Here are photos from Day 1 through project completion."

"They took down an old shed for us. The service was top rate from start to finish. The price was reasonable and the team did an excellent job. The owner, Gary, was on site for the entire project and the office manager, Allie, was great to work with. Highly recommend."

"Our garage ceiling fell down unexpectedly. Emington and Medardo were able to come the next day to repair it. They did an excellent job repairing it to its original shape and reinforcing the rest of the garage ceiling. They also cleaned up the debris and dust when the job was complete. During the project, Emington kept us updated on the progress and made sure we have no questions/concerns about the work after it is completed. I highly recommend them."

"The company was prompt in regards to getting the dumpster to and then picked up from my property on time, however the scheduling process left more to be desired. Something happened and the originally scheduled pick up date ended up having to be changed and I wasnt called to be made aware of this. I ended up calling them after no one showed up at the scheduled time. We then rescheduled and everything worked out from there."

FAQs for demolition projects in Arlington, VA

A complete chimney demolition takes close to five days with a two-person crew; removing only the stack can be completed in half a day. Pros take the structure down brick by brick, add temporary supports if needed, and haul away debris before they leave. Their step-by-step approach safeguards nearby walls and the roof while keeping dust and hazards in check.

Most municipalities require a permit before any part of the chimney comes down. Check with your local building department for the exact fees and paperwork, and confirm any HOA rules that may be applicable. Your structural engineer or chimney professional can obtain the permit on your behalf and ensure that every step complies with local safety and zoning codes.

You can close up your chimney instead of demolishing it. This process involves sealing the damper, installing a chimney cap, and closing the fireplace opening with a secure barrier such as bricks or a door. Closing the chimney maintains the structure while preventing airflow, moisture, and debris entry. This method reduces demolition costs and complies with building code requirements when complete removal is not necessary.

Removing a chimney and switching to modern, eco-friendly alternatives enhances your property’s appeal through increased energy efficiency and potential LEED certification. However, many buyers insist on an operational fireplace, and as a result, removal can reduce overall home value by $5,000. Homeowners should assess market expectations and consult experts to ensure that any changes align with their long-term property goals.

It’s crucial to determine if your chimney is load-bearing before starting removal. Modern homes feature chimneys that are independent of the building’s structure, whereas older homes rely on chimneys for support of critical systems. Review your blueprints or consult a qualified structural engineer to confirm if additional support is necessary. This step ensures safe removal and sound planning.
