I am a retired senior citizen who was out of town when a major windstorm uprooted a tree that landed on my house, putting a hole in the roof, along with tearing down all of the siding, and destroying the Soffitt, Fascia, gutters and downspouts. "It all started with a sagging beam in the dining room of our almost 300 year old house. We knew that it would require special skills  to figure out what the problem(s) were and what would be needed to fix things. 
Colonial Restorations was the answer!  I found their ad in Angie's List Boston and North edition and went to their website where we found pictures of old houses, barns and mills all requiring the sort of work we knew we were going to need.
Tom Greene and his son Brad came to look at the project, talked in depth with us about what might be needed, and worked up a plan and estimate for us.  They were very honest and straight forward about the problems facing us and the fact that as they started the job they might find more problems than we were expecting. (They were right!) 
My husband, a mechanical engineer , had done a lot of restoration work on other parts of the house many years ago and was impressed with the knowledge and understanding that Tom and Brad about handling this particular job.  They communicated well with us and answered many questions (from me) about what was being done.  The work progressed, between rainstorms in June and July, and when the job was finished,  the north side of our 18th century house was proudly sporting new sills, posts, plates, floor joists and a roof  extension.
We are preparing to hire them back again for another project on the front of our house.  We wouldn't have anyone else do this work.  Tom and Brad really know what they are doing!"

"Mike was very professional and easy to work with; the job was well done; and the price was excellent.
Our old roof had reached the end of its useful life... several small leaks had appeared in various places in the house and with each rain, they were getting more pronounced.  We contacted 3 potential contractors; one never responded, one called back two weeks later, Mike called within 24 hours.  He came out to look at the job, discussed the work with us, and gave us a detailed and very fairly priced proposal.  The plan was to wait a few weeks for good weather - unless there was a real spring like stretch.   
Two weeks later, with a predicted stretch of several unseasonably warm days, Mike called, asked if we wanted to get going.  The next morning, the materials were delivered; later that day, the dumpster arrived.  The crew was on site early the following morning.  The old roof was stripped by 10AM; the job was pretty much finished and fairly well cleaned up by sunset - with the promise that they would be back first thing in the morning to do a thorough clean up. 
True to his word, Mike and a couple of his men arrived early in the morning, did a thorough inspection of the entire yard, adjusted a couple of small things, and finished the clean up  by 10:30 AM. The dumpster was removed later that day.
All in all, a job we had been dreading was painless.  Four months later, the roof looks great and there are no more leaks.

"The company that cleaned my gutters told me that the fascia board on one side of the house was rotted and needed to be replaced. So, I sought several estimates, including from Mass Gutters and Roofing, which had been recommended on a neighborhood social network website. Instead of picking the cheapest company (heeding the well-known admonition - you get what you pay for), I decided to go with Mass Gutters. When Mark Richardson came to see the house, he pointed out several other issues, including the need to add a gutter in the front of the house over the porch, and the bowing of the wood across the bottom of the porch railing from a lack of support. Based on my conversation with Mark, including his observations, explanations, and suggestions, I felt confident that any work he did would be of excellent quality. I was NOT disappointed! Not only was the fascia board replaced, but the cause of the rotting was determined and eliminated by extending the metal that was too short for adequate protection of the wood. And, in addition to all the work we had discussed, Mark provided a solution to a years-long problem with birds nesting under the roof of the front porch. Metal sheets were installed to prevent them from ever returning. (I look forward to the birds returning next spring, only to discover that they have been permanently evicted!)
