"This review is from a seller where an inspection was performed. The heat was not shut off after the inspection and my family and I walked into 90 degree temperatures because the heat was never turned off when the inspection was complete and it was on for 7 hours until we got home. In addition the mud room has a thermostat and electric heater and that was also left on high which we did not realize until the next day. In addition, to prove a point to a potential buyer he forced a hole through the wood in our detached garage reporting that there are signs of water damage. The garage is from 1930, there has been water in the garage especially when we had the hurricane last year but they could have just written that in the report not damage our property to prove a point. Coincidentally, the same inspector came back with another interested buyer and yet another piece of wood was pulled off from the garage. If that is not bad enough, the same inspector gave confidential information from a previous inspection to a new potential buyer which led to another buyer terminating the deal. I know this as our lawyer communicated with the potential buyers attorney and said that the inspector passed on information about a previous inspection he did at our house a week earlier.. in addition, our neighbor and friends were outside during the outside portion of the inspection and they heard the inspector give the potential buyers and their real estate broker information about the last inspection and what the other potential buyers said. So much for confidentiality."

"Inspector missed major safety/health issues that were (easily) uncovered by a third party after moving in. I was told that these issues should not have been missed by any competent inspector and the remedies cost thousands of dollars in repairs. Costs that could have been passed to the seller at closing as they were fire hazards and carbon monoxide issues."

View our video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vF_MmZvPewI&feature=youtu.be\n\nWe are a full service commercial and residential painting company specializing in decorative finishes. Established in 1918. J.N. Fogg & Son began with E.L. Fogg, a contractor and paint store owner in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, in 1918. That paint store is also where John Fogg Sr. was born and raised (So painting really is in his blood!). After his Honorable Discharge from his service during the Korean War in the U.S. Air force, John Sr. moved to Ct. in 1958 (where he met his wife whom he married in 1960), to continue with his expertise in the painting industry. John Jr. was also apprenticed in J.N. Fogg & Son and added to his repertoire an extensive art background extending today's J.N. Fogg & Son, LLC services to include many decorative finishes and textures. A Message from the Owner: I am a 3rd Generation Painting contractor specializing in Decorative finishes such as Faux finishes and Venetian Plaster. I have a background in art, so I always enjoy doing an accent wall, Faux, or something different than the ordinary solid color wall. I am also proficient in installing many types of wall coverings. Lately we have been doing a lot of Historic Restoration work, which often involves restoration carpentry prior to the painting. We employ carpenters as well as painters. There has been a resurgence of restoration work as many homeowners are coming to realize that there are grants available. We are listed in the restoration services directory on Connecticut Trust for Historic Preservation web page.

"Don't trust this company if you are looking for them to stand behind their work and fix an issue after installation. They will take your money quickly, but will not be quick to respond or fix the issues after installation. We had a Rinnai tankless boiler/ Hot water heater installed by J & M Plumbing and it failed/ started leaking after just over a year of being installed. After paying almost $10,000 for this replacement you would expect quality work. After reaching out to Michael to get it resolved we are still waiting for a response on when the unit can be fixed. We have had to contact Rinnai directly to get this resolved and hire another plumber. Save yourself the frustration and look for another company. Please learn from our experience Check our other review sites and the complaints on the BBB website you will find many more dissatisfied customers. I hope this helps someone else from making the same mistake we did."
FAQs for toxic lead testing projects in Ashford, CT

If your home was built before 1978, there’s a strong chance it contains lead-based paint. Many pre-1980 houses also contain lead in their plumbing and decorative materials, so age alone is a significant red flag. Older homes near industrial areas face an even higher risk. Because you can’t confirm lead by sight, scheduling a test is the safest way to protect your family.

In older houses, lead can lurk in painted trim, window sashes, soil around the foundation, plumbing pipes, and even vintage hardware. The metal is toxic, and children and pregnant women are most at risk. Exposure can trigger developmental delays, learning problems, and organ damage. Because the EPA links even low levels to serious health effects, test every suspected surface and address any hazards right away.

A positive test means lead is present somewhere you can touch, breathe, or disturb. The next step is a full risk assessment to map exactly where the hazard lies and outline the safest fix: encapsulation, enclosure, or full removal. Repairs start at $1,000 but can exceed $10,000 for complete elimination, so act quickly and hire certified pros to keep your family safe.

EPA lead certification proves that inspectors, risk assessors, and abatement contractors follow federal safety rules under the Renovation, Repair, and Painting (RRP) Program. The credential costs an average of $300, and certified professionals can legally test, contain, or remove lead hazards. Hiring a certified pro protects you from fines and ensures the work meets strict health standards.

Lead-based paint looks no different from any other paint, so you can’t identify it by color or sheen. Even flawless walls may hide it. If paint starts chipping, flaking, or peeling, schedule a professional test right away. Only laboratory-grade testing confirms lead and guides the safest fix for your home.
