"he was very professional, arriving on time, with all the necessary equipment, the results were in an easy to read and understand format. All he does is test, but if you just want testing done he is very good."

"Scott came out and within the first 20 minutes found a great deal of mold in several of the walls of my finished basement. He also found some mold in the bathroom and under the kitchen sink. The greatest quantity of it was in the basement walls-- none of which was visible without pulling back some baseboards and drilling a few holes. He identified it right away and the procedure was minimally invasive. I then had them do a remediation, which took place a few days later and they had to remove the outside walls in 2 place and a few small sections of the inside walls in the finished lower level. It was done in one day and they used a negative air pressure system to make sure that the mold spores that were released while they were working were all sucked out the basement window and didn't cross contaminate the house. I was very happy with the job and the price was very reasonable considering the amount of work that had to be done. I have severe mold allergies and within a few weeks after the mold was removed from my home I was feeling MUCH better. Thank you Cobak for turning my sick house into a healthy one. <br />"

"Painters were very friendly, prompt and neat. Interior painting went so well that we contracted with Colorwheel to have them refinish our front and french doors. Both projects were completed in time allocated and look great."

"Everything went great. From the time I called them to get an estimate they came out in a very timely matter. Got me the estimate within 24 hours. They were not the most, and they were not the least. they were the only company out of the three that I called to come out and actually look at the gutters. The other two companies did not want to come out. They wanted to look on the Internet at my house for an estimate Mike, the owner was great to work with always kept in contact with me to let me know when the guys are going to be out from start to finish. Highly recommend windlickers!!"

"THE COMPANY RETURNED MY PHONE CALLS QUICKLY, AND TONY CAME TO MY HOME TO LOOK AT THE WALLS, AND DISCUSS WHAT I NEEDED, THE SAME DAY I SPOKE TO HIM. THE COMPANY REPRESENTATIVES WERE VERY POLITE AND HELPFUL IN ADVISING ME HOW TO HANDLE SEVERAL HAZARDOUS SUBSTANCES IN MY HOME. THE LEAD TEST WAS EXTREMELY FAST AND I WAS GIVEN A VERBAL RESULT IMMEDIATELY. A PROFESSIONAL REPORT WITH DETAILED RESULTS WAS MAILED TO ME A FEW WEEKS LATER. ALTHOUGH THIS IS AN EXPENSIVE TEST (TWO WALLS WERE TESTED FOR LEAD PAINT), IT IS WORTH IT FOR THE PEACE OF MIND. I WAS UNABLE TO FIND ANY OTHER LEAD PAINT TESTERS IN THE PHONE BOOK OR THROUGH ANGIE'S LIST, SO I DO NOT KNOW IF THE PRICE IS STANDARD FOR THIS TYPE OF TEST."

FAQs for toxic lead testing projects in Milwaukee, WI

If your home was built before 1978, there’s a strong chance it contains lead-based paint. Many pre-1980 houses also contain lead in their plumbing and decorative materials, so age alone is a significant red flag. Older homes near industrial areas face an even higher risk. Because you can’t confirm lead by sight, scheduling a test is the safest way to protect your family.

In older houses, lead can lurk in painted trim, window sashes, soil around the foundation, plumbing pipes, and even vintage hardware. The metal is toxic, and children and pregnant women are most at risk. Exposure can trigger developmental delays, learning problems, and organ damage. Because the EPA links even low levels to serious health effects, test every suspected surface and address any hazards right away.

A positive test means lead is present somewhere you can touch, breathe, or disturb. The next step is a full risk assessment to map exactly where the hazard lies and outline the safest fix: encapsulation, enclosure, or full removal. Repairs start at $1,000 but can exceed $10,000 for complete elimination, so act quickly and hire certified pros to keep your family safe.

EPA lead certification proves that inspectors, risk assessors, and abatement contractors follow federal safety rules under the Renovation, Repair, and Painting (RRP) Program. The credential costs an average of $300, and certified professionals can legally test, contain, or remove lead hazards. Hiring a certified pro protects you from fines and ensures the work meets strict health standards.

Lead-based paint looks no different from any other paint, so you can’t identify it by color or sheen. Even flawless walls may hide it. If paint starts chipping, flaking, or peeling, schedule a professional test right away. Only laboratory-grade testing confirms lead and guides the safest fix for your home.
