"Michael was great and his prices are reasonable. I called him one night and he came early the next morning. He was efficient and very knowledgeable. I would definitely recommend him to anyone who needs their home tested for lead."

"I got estimates from several companies but Bluestone was the only one that actually came to my house to look at it. Ron was my estimator and he did a great job explaining what they would do and answering all the questions I had about the job. Bluestone had the lowest bid with the Angie's list discount (was in the very middle of the three without it) so I went with them. They were able to schedule it for the following week. Will and his crew were here a few minutes before 7 am, and he took plenty of time to go over the work site with me and show me what they were going to do. They were all super professional, did what looked to me like a great job isolating the room and were ready for the air testing guy (who I had hired myself but they communicated with as far as timing when he needed to be there) by early afternoon. It passed the air clearance test and they quickly broke down the worksite. I had been worried about yucky black mastic getting splashed onto things but the room is actually quite clean and is waiting for step two of this process - the waterproofers."

"It was amazing! I needed this to happen fast as we were in the middle of redecorating. I called Kevin at 9:o0 and he said he could be there at 10:30. He showed up, did 8 samples from various materials and had my answer the next day by 2:30pm. Thankfully, I had no asbestos and my mind cleared and I was very happy. He told me the cost of simply getting a removal permit in Cook County and I was very thankful I spent the $500 for the service including 8 samples tested. Kevin charges $300 plus $25/sample. I had 8 areas that needed it. The best $500 I ever spent. I called other services that wanted $450 to come out plus the $25/sample. Kevin was fast and priced well."

"I sent a small tile and mastic sample to STAT to have it analyzed for asbestos.   I waited for the report to come via mail and when it did not come I called STAT at the end of the week to find out if I could get the results. Our project was on hold until we knew the tile composition.   I called again the following week and they e-mailed the results.    The written results followed several days later.   To save time if your holding up a job note in advance you want results e-mailed ASAP."

"WE WORKED WITH BRIAN DUERMIT AND 2 OF HIS SUPERVISORS. BRIAN WAS VERY RESPONSIVE BOTH TO DO THE INITIAL ESTIMATE AND WHEN WE ENCOUNTERED PROBLEMS DURING THE WORK. WE ARE CONFIDENT THAT THE LEAD HAS BEEN ABATED FROM OUR WALLS, BUT THEY VENTED THROUGH OUR BABYS ROOM RATHER THAN THE BATHROOM. OUR OTHER PROBLEM WAS THAT HALF OF THE WALL FELL INTO THE BASEMENT AND THEY CAME BACK IMMEDIATELY UPON OUR CALL TO CLEAN IT UP; HOWEVER, WE STILL HAD A LOT OF CLEANING TO DO AFTER THEY LEFT. ID PROBABLY HIRE BRIAN AND HIS CREW AGAIN FOR THIS OR SIMILAR WORK, BUT BE MORE THOROUGH IN MY POST-WORK INSPECTION."

"It went really well. I have used Jondec in the past for some painting projects, so naturally they were my first call when I needed a new room painted in my home. When I called they were able to send a estimator out right away. We discussed the project and what my expectations were as far as the room and my time frame. Once I signed the contract they were able to get me on the schedule within a week. Their employees were great, always on time, and professional. I never felt unsafe or uneasy about who was in my home. They were courteous and clean. They were even great with my overly friendly dog, and fussy baby too. I love they way my room turned out and I have Jondec to thank for it. I have always heard that you get what you pay for, but I know with Jondec they go above and beyond."

FAQs for toxic lead testing projects in Chicago, IL

If your home was built before 1978, there’s a strong chance it contains lead-based paint. Many pre-1980 houses also contain lead in their plumbing and decorative materials, so age alone is a significant red flag. Older homes near industrial areas face an even higher risk. Because you can’t confirm lead by sight, scheduling a test is the safest way to protect your family.

In older houses, lead can lurk in painted trim, window sashes, soil around the foundation, plumbing pipes, and even vintage hardware. The metal is toxic, and children and pregnant women are most at risk. Exposure can trigger developmental delays, learning problems, and organ damage. Because the EPA links even low levels to serious health effects, test every suspected surface and address any hazards right away.

A positive test means lead is present somewhere you can touch, breathe, or disturb. The next step is a full risk assessment to map exactly where the hazard lies and outline the safest fix: encapsulation, enclosure, or full removal. Repairs start at $1,000 but can exceed $10,000 for complete elimination, so act quickly and hire certified pros to keep your family safe.

EPA lead certification proves that inspectors, risk assessors, and abatement contractors follow federal safety rules under the Renovation, Repair, and Painting (RRP) Program. The credential costs an average of $300, and certified professionals can legally test, contain, or remove lead hazards. Hiring a certified pro protects you from fines and ensures the work meets strict health standards.

Lead-based paint looks no different from any other paint, so you can’t identify it by color or sheen. Even flawless walls may hide it. If paint starts chipping, flaking, or peeling, schedule a professional test right away. Only laboratory-grade testing confirms lead and guides the safest fix for your home.
