"Everything was done on time, even finished before due date! All workers were professional, friendly and trustworthy. All did excellent work; I have no complaints whatsoever. Steve designed the bathroom for me, and worked with me to choose all of the tile, fixtures, and cabinets. The general contractors, Dan Turman and his son Mike Turman were awesome -- they made sure everything was done perfectly. I had plastic plumbing, so a special plumber had to be hired - Cory W. -- he was awesome as well. Another fabulous father/son team, Derek & Jason Dill, installed the tile, which is beautiful -- they even did a special touch with a pipe they had to work around and made it look like a tiled column. I'm very pleased with all of the work. The shower glass walls & door look great too."

"It came out beautiful, finished the job faster than promised. He did such a good job I brought him another chair to do. Kris is a craftsman who loves what he does. He took us on a tour of his shop that he is very proud of. We enjoyed visiting him and will return with future projects."

"I have read mixed reviews on Granite Transformations at different locations, but I can say that the location in Machesny Park that I received service from was excellent. The professionalism was outstanding, starting with the first phone call from Domonique. Everything was done when they said it would be done and the end results are beautiful, I couldn't be happier. <br />"

"Charles took me shopping to help me make design choices and make sure we stayed on track for budget.  We had a productive day and a lot of fun buying new materials for my home.  I was included in the project every step of the way.  Really?  Who goes shopping with their customers anymore?  Wonderful experience from the begging!  Charles and his team were polite and professional and what I loved the most is they have made me feel so comfortable while performing this work in my home.  Team was on time and ready to work everyday.  No corners were cut and details were always finished perfectly. Charles and his apprentice went above and beyond whatever I originally had expected before I even knew I was going to choose him or Dream Line Remodeling LLC.   Charles knew exactly what I wanted before I even did and he was able to bring it to life with Good planning, professionalism and the spark of creativity that he has for home design!  My bathrooms are beautiful, My new fire place mantel is to die for and everything is just awesome!  Charles and his team are remodeling my kitchen now and I could not be more excited to have them here.  Kitchen Cabinets are in his shop in Rockford right now being finished!!  Stopped by just today to look at them and WOW!!    Thank you Charles and to the rest of the Dream Line Remodeling team!!  Your loyal customer for Life!!!   <br /> Karla Dobnick Roush <br />"

"Andy called me with an opening a week earlier than he originally scheduled us. He was punctual and professional. We recapped again what he and his helper would do when he arrived. Andy re-supported the load bearing solid wall before cutting out the section we needed removed. He also cut back part of the wall on the other side of the stairway to open up the room and made it plumb so I could frame in a closet door in the future when we finish the basement. He rough drywalled the supporting post, header and remaining stairway and quot;short-walland quot; to the floor. I said I would be responsable for taping and finishing the drywall to keep my costs lower. <br /> They did everyhting they said they would and more. They were in and out in a half day and cleaned up after themselves. I would highly recommend them to anyone needing the skills they offer. <br /> <br />"

"<strong>insurance co. paid for removal & installation of new vanity, contractor bought wrong size cabinet [he had size of original one].I had a sprained ankle & could not go upstairs to see vanity. they did not tell me it was wrong size .  when I found out we could not re-install  toilet paper holder [also covered by insurance] is when I found out it was wrong size. I called sub contractor and told him it had to be removed and same size as original vanity had to be installed. contractor called me and said I picked the vanity & I would have to pay to remove it .  I did not pick or see it before they installed it and was never told it was wrong size and I refused.contractor then said , " this is the size they are putting in  bathrooms today,] I said the insurance paid for replacement of original vanity & that is what I needed. he was very angry. also he was to install new water inlet lines. he did not use a plumber to install the first vanity and sink they brought, he used the drywall person and had him use the original solid copper compression lines from original vanity. they were to short and he could not get the faucet to stop leaking water. he kept tightening the nuts on to my original faucet and finally stripped the faucet  threads. he came downstairs and told me what happened and said the faucet could no longer be used and I would have to buy a new one.  I bought a new one and told rick [contractor] what happed and he refused  to re-pay me for faucet . [$50.00]. then I received a new contract with a higher amount , & he re-worded the vanity  from original remove and replace to remove and reset, and added owner was to purchase vanity,  when I told him I was not responsible for the replacement because the insurance co. had included the cost in the contract, he kept saying  "i did not charge you for a vanity in my new contract  so you are responsible for the cost." I could not get him to admit that he was already paid for the vanity cabinet in the insurance quote. I also called my insurance  and told her what was going on and she said  I was correct . the contractor was to pay for the vanity. then he gave me a separate contract for an additional amount of $2,522.80 and wanted a check from me  to cover the water extraction & remediation . I told him that was also covered in contract by insurance. and had nothing to do with me.  some of the work in bathroom was shoddy and had to be re-done. also in his original contract he put me down as paying for floor tile.  also covered by insurance. </strong>"

"We are very pleased with the project! JJ did an excellent job on the textured ceiling in the living room/hallway. The paint job was very good! His quote was also quite reasonable (living room is 18' x 20'). He finished a day early and did not leave a mess. I plan to hire him again to paint the kitchen in the spring."

FAQs for cabinets reface projects in Ashton, IL

Absolutely. Refacing returns 65% to 80% of your investment at resale, and you get an updated kitchen right now. Because you’re not paying for new boxes or demo work, the price lands well below complete replacement but still delivers a fresh, custom look that buyers—and you—notice every time you walk in.

To trim costs, start by pricing a high-quality paint or gel stain instead of full refacing—stain alone can be one-third the price of full refacing. Keep existing hinges and pulls if they’re in good shape, and shop sales for sandpaper, primer, and sealer. The sweat equity is real, but so are the savings, and a careful DIY job can still leave your cabinets looking sharp for years to come.

A professional crew needs only three to five days to reface a standard kitchen, although a larger layout or intricate door style may add one to two days. Compare that with the several weeks a full cabinet swap can drag on. In other words, you get your space back fast, often before the paint on the new doors is even fully cured.

Yes, you can replace just the cabinet doors and drawer fronts without covering the cabinet boxes. Cabinet refacing involves installing new doors and drawer fronts while applying veneers to existing cabinet boxes. If you’re satisfied with the condition of your cabinets, swapping doors and drawer fronts reduces labor and materials, saving you time and cost. Always consult a professional to confirm compatibility and ensure a seamless, high-quality finish.

Most cabinet refacing projects do not require removing countertops because professionals can access doors and drawers around existing surfaces. However, if your countertop overhang prevents full access to the cabinet boxes, contractors may need to lift the countertop to install veneers properly temporarily. Discuss this with your refacing specialist during the on-site estimate so you know exactly what the project entails.
