"I requested a quote for a new garage roof on Angie's last on 8/5 and by 8/13 my project was done! (Nothing has ever been so easy). APC is extremely communicative via Angie's List messaging, which I appreciate - I get so many spam calls to my cell phone that I don't pick up for unknown numbers. They responded within 30 mins of my inquiry, and they made an appointment to meet me for an estimate on Saturday morning - super convenient. When they arrived, they were very professional and polite. I felt comfortable with them immediately. Our job was very small - we were replacing a rusty, old corrugated metal roof on our garage with a new asphalt shingle roof that matches our house's roof. Because it was a small job they were able to fit us in just 3 days later. Price seemed reasonable. Crew was efficient and left the space clean. Very happy with how the roof looks."

"<p>Simple remodel, not as simple as we thought!</p> <p>Cut-up and removed old Jacuzzi tub, strengthen floor rafters [previous builder had cut 4" holes through all for a dryer hose], John "sistered" in new rafters. Removed and trashed toilet and vanity. Cut top layer of floor to remove old linoleum, and replaced with thicker underlayment. Installed a new small closet to avoid having shower plumbing in outside wall [had to be clever and accurate as we have radiant heating in ceiling. Installed 4' Sterling shower and an exhaust fan and light [now required by code]. Had to have roofer come and install fan exhaust through roof as new insulated pipe wouldn't allow exit under eves. Electrician had to remove all wiring from old Jacuzzi and add new wiring for fan [new arc-breaker installed in fuse box - another code addition]. Plumber cut-out all original supply and septic pipes and replaced with new plastic supply lines and straight septic lines. Sheetrock installer installed new sheetrock and re-pop corned the whole ceiling to blend. Vinyl floor installer installed new flooring. Plumber installed new toilet, shower and vanity valves [tedious job of calibrating temperature restrictions on valves, hot water heater and even in the other bathroom [more new codes]. </p> <p>Everything came out great and John even managed to move our project up in time to insure that it was ready in time for Christmas family visits.</p> <p>There is no such thing as a simple bathroom remodel. With new building codes, an electrician, plumber, roofer, floor installer, sheetrock hanger, builder and crew, three visits by building inspector, two by plumbing inspector and two by electrical inspector, you need an incredibly organized and experienced builder. John did an excellent job in communicating with us and his subs.</p> <p>If you are going to do a bathroom remodel, you better have a builder like Engineered Home Solutions.</p> <br />"

"Very well. Wendy and Jo are very responsive to inquiries and eager to do an excellent job. They did exactly what they said they would do and faster than expected. I went to work in the morning and came back to my house with a new roof. The only evidence that they were there, other than the new roof, was the dumpster in the driveway. We had a small one story ranch style home and oversized garage roofed."

"Great! I had them look at my gutters about adding flashing and they showed that the original contractor did not install flashing at all! Behind my gutters Also showed me the improper work done by the people that repaired my roof. I really appreciate their honesty and excellent work Would use again and highly recommend."

"I had used KBA in the past for a skylight leak, and had had a great experience so decided to give Bruce a call and see if he could help with the ice dam damage. I called him on a Friday evening and he was here bright and early Monday morning to assess what was was going on. I have home insurance and would be filing the claim, so Bruce brought his camera and took pictures of the inside and the outside. It was freezing and there was snow all around, but Bruce had his team up there and they got every picture that an adjustor would need. The ice dam was more complicated than expected so we thought it would be a good idea to have the adjustor come out and explain everything to him face to face so that in the end we didn't get penalized for something we were not allowed to do. Bruce took time from his schedule and came over when the adjustor was here and walked him through it all. Bruce made sure that the adjustor understood the repairs that needed to be done in order to resolve the situation. Bruce's #1 priority are his customers and he did not want to see me pay more than I had to for the "mother nature"event. The adjustor that came out ended up switching job so when I got the quote for my claim, it was no where close to what it should have been!! The case had been reassigned and the new adjustor was basing it on the online pictures and knew nothing of the detail that Bruce had gone over with the previous adjustor. Bruce, once again, took the time and called the new adjustor and explained everything to her over the phone and encouraged her to call him with any questions.  She did call him/email and he was quick to respond every time; and in the end all I was left to pay was my deductible. <br />   In the end, the job was completed and everything looks great! However, what is even more important is that through the whole process I new i could rely on Bruce to be there with any questions that i had. He was always a phone call away. The team that came to my house to do the repairs was respectful and polite. They always left the areas worked on clean and tidy as it had been. Bruce would always be there to do inspections along the way to make sure the work was being done as it should be. <br /> As the years go on, I am sure there will be "issues" in the house; and I feel confident tackling them because I know I have a dependable contractor who will get the job done efficiently/perfectly, and in the process will not try and take advantage of me or the situation by any means."

"I had heard many roofing horror stories so I was apprehensive about selecting a roofing company until a friend told me about Truehome Roofing. They said they had a great experience with them. I gave Truehome a call and spoke to John. We contracted to have my 30 year old roof replaced and it went smoothly. The crew was on time both days of the project. A supervisor was always present and after the job was complete the cleanup was excellent. A crew member went around with a magnetic pickup tool and collected any nails left and the driveway was safe to park my cars."

FAQs for roofing installation & roof repair projects in Athol, MA

An average Cape Cod roof-raising project requires approximately two to three months from start to finish. The timeline depends on several variables, including weather conditions, contractor availability, material delivery schedules, and the specific complexity of your home's structure. The process involves multiple phases, including demolition, framing, roofing, window installation, and interior finishing. Working with an experienced contractor who provides a detailed timeline can help set realistic expectations for the project duration.

While most Cape Cod homes can accommodate roof-raising modifications, each house requires individual structural assessment. Older homes may need foundation reinforcement or wall strengthening before supporting additional weight. Factors like the existing roof framing system, load-bearing wall placement, and overall structural integrity all influence feasibility. A qualified structural engineer should evaluate your specific property before proceeding with design plans. Additionally, local zoning ordinances may restrict maximum building height or architectural modifications in certain neighborhoods.

Temporary relocation is highly recommended during a Cape Cod roof raising project. The construction process involves removing portions of your existing roof, exposing interior spaces to potential weather damage, and creating significant noise and dust. Most homeowners find temporary accommodations for the two to three-month construction period, with relocation costs ranging from $2,000 to $6,000, depending on your housing choices. If staying with family or friends isn't possible, budget for short-term rental or extended-stay hotel expenses as part of your overall project cost.

Consider roof raising when you experience severely limited headroom throughout the second floor, find yourself constantly stooping under sloped ceilings, or have minimal usable floor space due to low ceiling heights. Other indicators include inadequate natural light, poor ventilation, and difficulty accommodating standard furniture in upstairs rooms. Simple renovations can improve an attic's appearance, but cannot create additional headroom without structural modifications. A complete roof-raising project makes more sense than cosmetic renovations if you're seeking genuine second-floor living space rather than just storage improvements.

Begin your search by seeking contractors with specific experience in Cape Cod structural modifications and dormer additions. Request detailed portfolios showing similar completed projects and ask for references from previous clients with comparable work. Verify that potential contractors hold appropriate licenses and insurance coverage and understand local building codes relevant to roof raising. Interview multiple candidates, comparing price quotes and their communication style, project approach, and proposed timeline. The ideal contractor should demonstrate a thorough understanding of Cape Cod architectural characteristics and structural requirements.
