"We are about 85% through the project and all of the work Bruce has done is top notch. He is very knowledgeable and talented.Even though the kitchen is not done, we have received many compliments about the design and cabinets. Our project is moving slowly due to weather and other circumstances. We are able to use all appliances and sink in the kitchen while we are on hold."

"This was our second time using Trusted Improvement and we are satisfied yet again. Andy met with us to pick out tile at a warehouse and he confirmed with us before placing the tile order. Unfortunately, the tile that  we selected ended up being out of stock (the salesperson at the tile warehouse told is it was in stock). Andy was great in communicating all of this to us. He called them back a few days before the tile was due to be in, and was told it was still not going to be in stock for another few weeks. Andy communicated this to us and offered to meet with us again if we wanted to pick out something different, but we were still working on painting our cabinets so we decided to wait. After one more delay (and another offer to meet with us somewhere else to pick out something else), the tile finally came in. Even though Trusted Improvement had a busy schedule, they fit us in which we appreciated since we had waited two months for our tile (again, it was our choice to wait because we loved what we picked). We agreed on a date for the installation and Alex (the tile guy) arrived on time and got started right away. He worked hard and communicated with us about how we wanted certain things (like the pencil liner, cuts around the window, etc.) The job took three days and everything went great. We paid $850 for the labor and then the cost of the tile/grout. We love how it looks and are so glad that we went with Trusted Improvement and that we waited for our specific tile to be in stock. We just got back from a week of camping, and I've never loved my kitchen more!!"

"Kris Jones did mainly all the work.  Because of my husbands father passing away in February 2015, we made a 12 hour trip every three weeks to take care of his parents estate. We had no problem giving Kris total access to our home while we were away.  Honestly, we considered Kris like family and as far as his work, he was meticulous!  (this was my very handy/dandy husbands description of Kris' work). When some of the grain on the kitchen cabinet doors didn't look as nice, Tim July kept telling us, "we want you to be happy". He kept his word. All the doors we didn't care for, were replaced. We are extremely happy with the whole July's Construction experience..    <br /> We personally, in writing, want to thank Kris for your incredible workmanship and personality, Tyler for all your hard work, Skip for your talents in design, and especially to Tim July for having such a talented crew, for his honesty, competency, diligence, and <br /> professionalism. <br /> <br /> <br />"

"He did an excellent job. I know it was not as much as $1000, for some reason it is $700 in my mind. I did pay for the paint. There were three men who worked on all of this and they were very professional and clean. They cleaned up everything. In one room there was a lot to move, because it is a big room and it has two book cases etc. They were just very professional. I know one man whose work was to be a builder, cabinet maker, he was very exacting. I would recommend them to anybody who is looking for a painter in the area. I already have other work that I know as soon as I accumulate the funds, I will ask him to do. Their professionalism and clean up was excellent. They covered everything. When I clean I drip everything but they didn’t seem to do that at all. They cleaned every evening when they left, they didn’t just leave it. They started over new the next day. I was quite impressed as I have had one other painter who was disastrous. I felt the price was fair because I had  compared some other prices. Previously, few years before I had it done and investigated prices and his was no higher than what I had learned; the one man did everything by himself. Mr. Peters also remodels and does cabinet work and everything. Since it is his livelihood it makes a difference.  They were very prompt; they said they would be here and were here."

FAQs for cabinets reface projects in Auburn, MI

Absolutely. Refacing returns 65% to 80% of your investment at resale, and you get an updated kitchen right now. Because you’re not paying for new boxes or demo work, the price lands well below complete replacement but still delivers a fresh, custom look that buyers—and you—notice every time you walk in.

To trim costs, start by pricing a high-quality paint or gel stain instead of full refacing—stain alone can be one-third the price of full refacing. Keep existing hinges and pulls if they’re in good shape, and shop sales for sandpaper, primer, and sealer. The sweat equity is real, but so are the savings, and a careful DIY job can still leave your cabinets looking sharp for years to come.

A professional crew needs only three to five days to reface a standard kitchen, although a larger layout or intricate door style may add one to two days. Compare that with the several weeks a full cabinet swap can drag on. In other words, you get your space back fast, often before the paint on the new doors is even fully cured.

Yes, you can replace just the cabinet doors and drawer fronts without covering the cabinet boxes. Cabinet refacing involves installing new doors and drawer fronts while applying veneers to existing cabinet boxes. If you’re satisfied with the condition of your cabinets, swapping doors and drawer fronts reduces labor and materials, saving you time and cost. Always consult a professional to confirm compatibility and ensure a seamless, high-quality finish.

Most cabinet refacing projects do not require removing countertops because professionals can access doors and drawers around existing surfaces. However, if your countertop overhang prevents full access to the cabinet boxes, contractors may need to lift the countertop to install veneers properly temporarily. Discuss this with your refacing specialist during the on-site estimate so you know exactly what the project entails.
