"Install was scheduled for 9:30 EST 12/22/2025. At approx10:30am called to inquire as to his status. He told me he was 10 mins away. He arrived an hour later. He was somewhat agitated on arrival. We together unboxed the new faucet and he examined the existing functional kitchen faucet. The system in place was result of new construction in 2017.He raised no concerns about new product quality or concerns about getting the job done. He was at the job approx. 2 hours and I was present close by throughout. After approx. one hour he became more and more agitated. He asked me to show him the basement as he "needed more length" to hook up the product. No changes took place in the basement. Shortly thereafter he announced the new product was "cheap" and suddenly "fell apart". He became agitated and told me the only option was to return the product and that he now had to replace the previous existing faucet. At this time on my exam noted one of the water hoses on the new product was no longer functional. There was a short extension on the other hose which I commented seemed to imply he had realized the new product hoses were too short. He quickly took off that extension and put it in his pocket, reiterated the new product was "junk". When done he asked me for 500$ for the two hours work and left. On my further exam of the new faucet after he left was clear he had been trying to stretch these short hoses to the point of damaging beyond repair both (please see pics) hoses. It was obvious all of this could have been avoided by adding extensions from the start. The under sink area would have easily accommodated this. In retrospect I am sorry I paid him. But, I am elderly, live on a rural dead end dirt road and just needed him out of the house. It is why I use a company like Angi to hopefully have some screening responsibility. Follow up communication has been difficult during the holidays. Ultimately I did speak with him. He continued to be dismissive and challenged me to seek legal recourse. I questioned his agitation that day. I asked if he had been drinking (both my parents were heavy drinkers and I regret not following that suspicion that day). He did not deny just replying "If you are so smart why didn't you do the job yourself". I told him that is why I strive to employ reputable contractors, always."

"I recently had my shingle roof replaced and I?m very happy with the results. The team was professional, punctual, and completed the job efficiently. The quality of the work is excellent, and the new roof looks great. They kept the work area clean and communicated well throughout the process. I would definitely recommend them to anyone needing a roof replacement."

"I was told I was getting an appliance A/C tech, who knew how to service Air Conditioners. The Technician arrived...had no idea what to do...Had to search the repair procedure on the internet !! The tech informed me, that he doesn't work on these units or know anything about them. Nothing was correctly serviced or fixed. The problem returned in 2 hours, and I was charged almost $300 for nothing. For $300 dollars, nothing got solved. Terrible service, WAY TOO EXPENSIVE for no result."

"Martel replaced our hot water heater four years ago (in less than 24 hours on Fourth of July weekend, no less) and I noticed today that it had started to leak. I called in to their office at 11:15 am spoke with a very kind and friendly woman who transferred me to Jeff. I left a message and had a call back in less than an hour. The heater was still under warranty, they had one in stock and the technician, Mike, was at the house in less than an hour and by 2pm the job was done! I have always had more than amazing experiences with Martel, but this one takes the cake. Jeff was very informative and helpful in diagnosing the issue and Mike was an absolute pleasure to have working in my basement. If you are looking for a stand-up company for any of your plumbing and heating needs, do not hesitate to call the friendly folks at Martel!"

"Thought I’d put this out there for any of you who are deciding that you need a plumber in the Atkinson area. I would definitely NOT RECOMMEND Matt from Happy Home P&H. In my opinion he performed an incomplete job, overcharged for it and made an unprofessional comment to me. You’ll have to decide if this is the kind of plumber you want for your job. On Friday 7/13/2023 I discovered a leak in my home. Water was coming through the kitchen ceiling. I did not know what was causing this. I called Happy Home P&H. I do have to say Matt responded quickly. Matt arrived and identified the issue as the toilet tank supply line between the toilet and the wall on the second floor. He mentioned that he recently had some other jobs in my condo complex as he acknowledged that our homes are on the older side. He turned off the water to the toilet, replaced the toilet tank supply line and completed the job in less than 20 minutes. I don’t know if he took a few extra minutes to check any other plumbing parts around the leak area to ensure all was in working order...but apparently he did not. I was charged $250 because it was deemed an emergency which I gladly paid. That evening I noticed that water was still dripping from the area of “The Fix”. I called Matt at Happy Home P&H and arranged for him to come back as I felt he did not completely fix the issue I had paid him $250 for. When Matt returned, before he even looked at the leak, he said he thought it was probably a nut that needed tightning at the water shutoff as the materials were old. He completed the "tightning of the stop packing nut at toilet" in under 5 minutes. I don’t know if he took a few extra minutes to check any other plumbing parts around the leak area to ensure all was in working order... but apparently he did not. He told me the charge would be $100 for coming back to fix the leak. I suggested the fix was something he touched the day before and should be considered as included in the original fix. He did not agree. I paid Matt $100. I told him I was disappointed about having to pay a second time and would be posting my disappointment on the Atkinson Community Facebook page and passing my experience onto my Atkinson neighbors. That evening I noticed that water was still dripping from the area of “The Fix”. I notified Matt of the continued leaking. Matt said he was busy today but offered to come back the next day. However he prefaced it by saying “even though I don’t want you as a customer” I will fix my work. I have decided to not allow Matt back into my home given his unprofessional comment and the fact that after two visits there is still water leaking from my toilet. I feel uncomfortable and do not want to allow a worker into my home who quote "does not want me as a customer". This was my experience with hiring Matt of Happy Home P&H."

FAQs for plumbing installation for a remodel or addition projects in Barnstead, NH

Adding bathroom plumbing to a detached garage starts with the basic line installation cost of $900 to $1,300. On top of this base expense, you'll need to budget for each fixture. A toilet costs  $250 to $550, sinks cost $150 to $800, and a shower or bathtub costs $400 to $1,900. The project will also require ventilation, moisture-resistant materials, and possibly electrical work. Remember that these costs reflect only the plumbing aspects—additional construction, finishing, and permitting expenses will apply to complete a functional bathroom space.

While certain aspects of garage renovation might be suitable for DIY enthusiasts, plumbing installation requires professional expertise. Connecting to water and sewer systems demands specialized knowledge and equipment, and improper installation can result in severe water damage, code violations, and potential health hazards. Most municipalities require permits for plumbing modifications, and these often stipulate that licensed professionals must perform work. Consider limiting your involvement to simpler tasks like painting or basic finishing work.

The timeframe for adding plumbing to a detached garage spans one to three days for the actual plumbing work. However, this represents only the active installation period. The complete project timeline must account for planning, obtaining permits (which can take weeks depending on your locality), coordinating multiple contractors if needed, and addressing any unexpected challenges that arise during installation. Weather conditions can also impact excavation and outdoor connection work.

Adding plumbing to a detached garage will likely increase your property taxes. Tax assessors consider plumbing an improvement that enhances property value and functionality. The specific tax impact varies by location and project scope. Converting a garage into living space with plumbing facilities can trigger significant reassessment in many jurisdictions. Before proceeding with your project, consult your local tax assessor's office to understand the potential tax implications and factor this ongoing expense into your decision-making process.
