"Sean was great to work with. He listened to what I needed and gave me several options to choose from. His pricing is extremely fair. When my materials cost less than expected he was honest and gave me the difference back. His work turned out nicely looking and he took care to make sure each step was done right. He was prompt on arrival and took the time to answer questions I had as he did his work. I would definitely work with Sean again. When it’s time to replace my entire fence and not just a few repairs, I will definitely be returning to working with him. "

"We had a fairly small wood replacement job on our balcony and Marcio and Wilmar were great. Marcio was quick to drop by for an estimate & scheduled the job quickly. Wilmar finished within a couple of days as promised with a great standard of work. Price was perfect as well. I would definitely use MJ Repair Services again!"

"Dave was amazing! It was our first experience hiring a handy man and I would 100% recommend. He came in and fixed a hand rail that had been ripped from the wall, noticed that the other hand rail was also not attached to studs so he fixed that, and noticed that one of our doors was coming loose at the hinges and fixed it was well! He was obviously very experienced and knew was he was doing. We would happily have him come back and help with other projects in the future!"

"Roof4life was excellent all around. Best price value, great service, great follow up, and great communication. 3 tiered approach: Logistics team set up and coordinated, Project Manager worked on specifics, and crew which did the actual work. Very efficient and professional. Our PM, Gio, was always available for quick phone calls or to physically come to the project. Crew was hard-working and experienced. I would recommend HIGHLY."

"I loved the work done by Madera LLC. They renovated my entire kitchen. Installed cabinets including custom ones specifically for my needs. They also did all the stain finished trim. Plus a few added special touches. The work was done efficiently and at a reasonable price. Will definitely be contacting for future projects."

FAQs for wood stairs and railings repair projects in Bellevue, WA

Hiring a pro to refinish wooden stairs means labor makes up 20% to 30% of your total budget. That price covers sanding, staining, and sealing each step. In most cases, a certified refinisher can tackle a 10-step staircase in about two hours, then apply stain and sealant for a durable, eye-catching finish that stands up to daily traffic.

A pro can sand a standard 10-step staircase in roughly two hours, then needs another four to six hours for each coat of stain and sealant to dry. DIYers should budget up to a week for sanding, staining, and sealing in stages. With a crew on site, the bulk of the work is completed in a single day, minimizing disruptions while still achieving a high-quality finish.

It’s possible to refinish stairs without full-scale sanding by using chemical strippers, power buffers, or simply layering a fresh finish over the existing coat. Chemical strippers break down old stains and sealants, while buffers quickly shave off surface material. Even so, a quick hand-sand with fine-grit paper helps the new finish bond properly and look smooth. As always, suit up in protective gear and follow product directions to keep your wood—and yourself—safe.

For most stair projects, you’ll want two sandpaper grits. Begin with 80- to 120-grit to strip the old finish and even out rough spots, then move to 150- to 220-grit for a smooth, ready-for-stain surface. A power sander speeds up the coarse pass, but switches to hand sanding with the fine grit in corners and along edges to keep abrasion even and give stain or sealer something to grab onto.
