"I was really worried about the condition of our chimney and didn?t want to keep putting it off. The mortar was in rough shape and the top of the chimney definitely needed attention. Everything was cleaned out, repaired properly, and finished with a new crown and cap so it?s finally protected from water and weather. The chimney looks solid again and I feel a lot better knowing it was done the right way. It?s a relief having this taken care of, and if someone I know ever needs chimney work, I?d feel comfortable pointing them in the same direction."

Small jobs welcome

"I had them do a cleaning and inspection of my chimney and they found damages to the brickwork and the top of the chimney. They installed a new cap and their cost was so reasonable. All their work is guaranteed as well, which is reassuring. They were clean, efficient and courteous. I would highly recommend Handy Andy and in fact they are doing an estimate for my neighbor to whom I recommended them to."

"We requested a free estimate. Cory provided a detailed explanation of the work to be done (with photos) and the price. He let us know they could do the job on the spot, contact them later or not at all. We opted to have the job completed immediately at what we thought was a reasonable cost. That consisted of a new damper, repairing a cracked crown, replacing some missing bricks and flashing. The work was complete within a couple of hours and we are satisfied with the results."

"We are delighted with the result our patio has undergone an amazing transformation. The work was started on a Saturday and completed the following Saturday. The contractor removed the existing patio blocks and some 8 inches of stone dust on which the old patio sat. If you notice in the finished patio picture the contractor added curves to to the paths needed to the in-ground pool and the clothesline. See the old and new patio photos attached. One of the problems with doing the work late in fall is the damage to the lawn. The contractor has assured us that the lawn with recover in the spring and that no added loam was needed. If possible I'll update this review in the spring and let you know the result. Other than that concern, we very strongly recommend J Stefan Contracting for your patio project. We told Jeremy we would be willing to let other perspective homeowners see the patio, just ask Jeremy. One last point we "found" this contractor through the assistance of Dave Anderson, General Manager at Martignetti Enterprises (masonry supply in Amesbury, Ma)."

FAQs for brick or stone tuck pointing projects in Berwick, ME

Masons charge between $70 and $110 per hour. A mason may have a minimum service fee ranging from $80 to $300. Most bricklayers offer free estimates and charge only if you proceed with the project. This clear pricing model assures that professionals inspect your property before beginning work and charge based on your project’s actual requirements.

A professional repointing lasts 20 to 30 years without maintenance and extends up to 50 years when maintained diligently. This process protects your brickwork using high-quality materials that ensure lasting performance and durability. Consistent upkeep preserves its strength and appearance, providing enduring protection and enhancing your home’s overall structural integrity for decades.

You know your house needs repointing when you notice clear signs such as cracked, flaking, or missing mortar and visible discoloration on the brick surfaces. Additional indicators include loose bricks, water damage, and gaps between the brick joints that compromise the overall integrity of the structure. Addressing these issues promptly protects your investment and sustains the durability and curb appeal of your home.

A house needs repointing to preserve both its structural integrity and visual appeal. Mortar acts as a vital bonding agent that holds the bricks securely together. When the mortar deteriorates, it exposes the structure to water infiltration and further decay, increasing the risk of costly repairs. Repointing stops decay and reinforces the exterior, ensuring long-term protection.
