"Excellent work and great suggestions to achieve what I needed. Replaced asphalt driveway with a concrete one and installed a trench drain and drainage tile through yard to solve a long-standing problem with rainwater running down driveway toward the house. Created patio in shape I wanted and fixed issues with older sidewalks. Highly recommend."

"Everything went great. Steve was exceptionally thorough in talking through the process and options up front and both crews (windows and siding) did great work and were a pleasure to work with!"

"We first thought we had foundation issues when we noticed stair-step cracking along the front (both right and left sides) of our garage brick veneer. After a foundation company did some digging we came to realize the foundation was good, however the original builder had done us a disservice by not laying the brick on a proper cement block/base or using proper brick ties. Isabel came within 2 hours of contacting him to see if he could help our situation. Over time the brick had dropped and separated from the wall itself and was, in time, going to simply fall. He suggested to properly repair all the damage (it was fairly extensive on both sides of the front wall) he would have to demo the entire wall up to the gable and start over with a proper base for the brick. He would dig to see if there were proper footers/a base for the brick to start stacking, possibly pour a proper concrete support, rebuild the wall - matching the existing brick, and repair our concrete walkway that was partially pulled up by the foundation company upon their investigation. We met with Isabel and Revis on Tuesday, the following day a crew showed up first thing in the morning and the job was done by the end of the week. They addressed every concern we had along the way. The crew was even able to save all the existing trim and most materials to save on cost. Overall we are VERY pleased with the quality work that was done as well as how quickly they were able to start/finish the job! And, his bid was FAR less than 2 others we received as well :) <br />"

" My experience with Americrawl has been disappointing to say the least. They will not go an extra foot, let alone a extra mile for thier customers. No personal service, no apologies, and shockingly no thank you's. In this economy I think spending close to $4,000.00 would atleast get me a some appreciation for my business. No call ahead, no curtosy, no calling after service to find out if I had any questions. No one at this company wants to talk to you! I found them at the Boat, Sport, & Travel Show. Since thier shop is literally 2 miles from my house I thought I would give my local business an opportunity. I did a little research on thier website before meeting for an estimate. The site looked very professional and techinical. Even promoted new technologies on waterproofing. It had lots of oustanding testimonials, mostly about crawlspace encapsulations though. It boasted how they "go the extra mile" and how they "get 40% of their business from word of mouth." So I thought this should go pretty well. Salesman was prompt, professional, and didn't try to over sell me on extra unnecessary serivces. He was the only person from this company that actually called me back promptly and answered all my questions. After that it was all down hill. Also, just found out this salesman no longer works for Americrawl! <br /> I scheduled the work to be done about 3 months after I signed the contract. So when the time came to have the work performed, I asssumed someone would call to confirm the date and time of the crew's arrival. Nope. No one called or said what time they woud be at my house. So I called the night before, leaving a voicemail asking, yet no one called me the next morning. I had taken the day off of work to be there when work was being done. They showed up at 9:30 am. None of the labor crew introduced themselves, asked any questions, shook no hands. Just said we are here to do work. At the end of that day, they just said "we are leaving and will be back same time tomorrow." The next day they showed up around the same time and just went to work. When they were finished, none of them took the time to show the work they had performed, nor took the time to answer any questions that my wife or I may have had. They just handed us the bill for the remaining amount and left. Also clean up could have been much better. No attempt to clean the dust and debris on my basement stairs and still found chuncks of concrete on floor in basement. <br /> After a few days, when I had time to really inspect thier work, I noticed they had broken a decent sized chunk off of my cynder block wall. What upset me was not that it happened, but that no one told me it happened, nor was it even attempted to be repaired (even though it says they will do so in the contract!). I also saw that instead of using the AkwaGuard system they so proudly promote on the website and sales, they used perforated PVC pipe! Which is a material that they call out-dated and subpar. Also, supposedly, this system needs annual "maintenace", which to this day still has not be explained. So I called them to express my displeasure with the whole experience. Especially the feeling of getting "baited and switched". I am most shocked at how uneager the manager is to offer any customer service and answer my questions! It has been like pulling teeth to get him to come 2 miles to my house to look and the chunk missing in my wall and answer my remaining questions. This company obviously just wanted paid and doesn't care about building relationships nor good reviews."

"Of the six or eight companies from which I received quotes, Armored Floors was the ONLY one that actually provided references, even though three others said they would. I spoke to two high-end contractors and one private-residence customer and all three raved about Armored Floors and the owner, Tammy. A certificate of insurance was provided as soon as I requested it. Overall, Armored Floors was prompt, professional, and careful. There was virtually no odor during/after installation. The crew were Tammy's employees, not subcontracted workers. The cleanup was perfect and the crew answered my questions fully. My cost was higher than average (by about $500) because I requested a moisture barrier which is not always necessary; however, for the exceptional result and full warranty, I believe my money was very well spent. The work included repair of cracks, repair of concrete subfloor in some areas, and removal of oil (see before photo#1030147). My garage floor looks amazing (see after photo #1000061) and because of the full flake granite system and decorative flakes, the floor is not at all slippery. I recommend Armored Floors without reservation and even told Tammy that she could give my name and phone number to customers requesting references."

FAQs for concrete patios, walks & steps installation projects in Birdseye, IN

Most sidewalks rely on a ready‑mix blend of Portland cement, sand, gravel, and water that trucks deliver to your site and pour in one continuous lift. For added strength, many contractors fold in fiber mesh or steel reinforcement. This mix cures into a rock‑solid slab that stands up to foot traffic, freeze‑thaw cycles, and daily wear for decades. Expect a pro to recommend a 4‑inch‑thick pour for standard walkways.

With the right mix, proper drainage, and routine upkeep, a concrete sidewalk can last 25 to 50 years. Freeze‑thaw cycles, road salt, and heavy loads all shorten that timeline, but sealing every few years and patching small cracks early keeps damage in check. Think of sealing as inexpensive insurance for decades of safe, stable footing. In milder climates, some slabs push well past the 30‑year mark without major repairs.

Concrete sidewalks crack as a result of significant temperature fluctuations and heavy load pressures. The freeze-thaw cycles and sustained weight from vehicles or intense foot traffic force the concrete to develop cracks over time. Applying a premium sealant every two to three years and substituting salt with sand for de-icing minimizes crack formation. Regular maintenance and timely repairs safeguard the sidewalk’s structural integrity and extend its service life.
