"Austin put in a trench garage drain in my 3 stall garage and was great to work with - courteous, responsive, and prompt to get work done. And did so at a very reasonable price. Would recommend to anyone looking for something similar."

"ALTHOUGH JACK SEEMED OVERWHELMED AND HAD TO RESCHEDULE THE ESTIMATE, ONCE HE DID COME, HE SPENT TIME WITH US TO EXPLAIN WHAT HE WOULD DO AND ANSWER OUR QUESTIONS. DUE TO WEATHER AND OTHER CIRCUMSTANCES HE WAS ABOUT AN HOUR LATE, BUT HE DID CALL TO TELL US. WHEN THE WORKERS CAME TO COMPLETE THE WORK, THEY WERE LATER THAN WHAT THEY SAID THEY WOULD BE ON BOTH DAYS (AND DID NOT CALL TO TELL ME THEY WERE RUNNING LATE). WE THOUGHT THAT THEY MAYBE COULD HAVE DONE A MORE THOROUGH JOB COVERING OUR STUFF THAT WAS IN THE BASEMENT TO KEEP IT PROTECTED FROM THE DUST, BUT ALSO UNDERSTAND THAT JACK HAMMERING CONCRETE IS MESSY. OVERALL THEY DID A DECENT JOB CLEANING UP THEIR MESS. THE EMPLOYEES WERE ALWAYS POLITE, AND COMMUNICATED WELL WITH WHAT THEY WERE DOING AS WELL AS WHEN THEY WERE LEAVING FOR THE DAY. THEY ALSO DID A FINAL WALK THROUGH WITH ME WHEN THEY WERE DONE."

"I saw the Schauer trailer in my neighborhood for about a week as Jerry was working on driveways for three of my neighbors. I figured if that many were having work done with him I'd see how much to place a new concrete garage floor. I previously received a quote to have it lifted for $1500 and when I got his bid of $1800 for new concrete there wasn't even a question on what to do."

"I had got an estimate and for the price I though I would spend they where right in line for the cement work for the camper pad. They whereat my place about five days after estimate. They prep and poured the area in a clean action. They call and advised me on the what they where doing with my water sprinklers.I would use them again."

"I received a prompt reply by Email (also through Angie's List).  At first they referred me to an individual, whom they called an "associate".  No company name, but they provided the individual's name and phone number, and said to mention "Chris" when I called the guy.  <br /> I called, but the number went right to voicemail, which explained that the mailbox was full.  I reported this back to VanVleet, by Email. <br /> I heard from VanVleet the following day.  They wrote that they would be coming to my residence in 4 days (on a Saturday), and they quoted an extremely high <em><strong>hourly </strong></em>price for "ice dam steaming" services, which I had not asked about. <br /> I responded promptly to explain that there is no ice dam damage to my roof, and what I really need is a crew to simply shovel/remove snow from my roof - the service they advertise on Angie's List.  I told them I could be open to "ice dam steaming" if indicated during their visit, but I have no reason to commit to that service now, and wanted to be clear about that. <br /> Their prompt reply (Email) was that they are only selling "ice dam steaming" services now. <br /> Given that VanVleet advertises "roof snow removal" on Angie's List, their 'up-sell' of a different service at an extraordinary price felt like gouging.  <br /> I did not receive VanVleet's services, so this is not a bad service report for their company.  They were professional in their communications and may be outstanding builders and/or roofers.  Plus I'm not a repeat customer so they owe me no special consideration.  On the other hand, I was only asking for the service they advertised.  <br /> I'm concerned about any contractor who appears to be switching their service offering and/or increasing prices dramatically to take advantage of temporary situations (bad New England weather this season). <br />"

"Creative Concrete tried to help us out by pouring a beautiful decorative basement floor for us on a week's notice when our other contractor failed to get the job done and we had a deadline with a house mover for them to move our existing home on to the new basement. Unfortunately for them, the other contractor had done all the prep work (digging the basement, compacting the ground and leveling it off, and installation of the floor heat system), so we all took it on faith that it had been done correctly and was ready for concrete. Well, it wasn't. A week later the floor caved-in due to little or no effort on the other contractor's part to pack the ground below it properly in preparation for the pour, so Creative Concrete came to our rescue again by jack-hammering out the entire floor. <br /> At this point, our house was now sitting on top of the basement and was being supported by a load-bearing wall in the basement too, so something had to be done to brace-up the house as well while we waited for the demolition to be completed and the new floor to be poured. We would like to extend a special thanks to one particular employee, Josh Ellis, for his knowledge, help, and dedication in helping us to get settled back in to our home. Creative Concrete went way above and beyond the scope of a normal concrete slab pour. They thought outside of the box to come up with innovative solutions for the numerous problems we encountered from the other contractor's work. They were fair and unbiased in their assessments of the other contractor as well. They told it like it was and didn't exaggerate his errors to make their company look better. <br /> I do wish they had been able to get to some of our work sooner than they did, but honestly, they were fitting us in between other jobs, and they were doing us a favor. We'll be forever thankful for their kindness, and quality workmanship. I think they're a little bit pricey, but worth it. After having to pay to have everything done twice from dealing with the so-called and quot;bargainand quot; contractor, I'd pay good money to have a quality company like Creative Concrete do it right the first time if we had it to do all over again. They did give us a few breaks in the price too out of sheer pity for our situation, so God Bless them for that. <br />"

"The work went very well.  We had a few rain delays, but that could not be helped.  Also we were coordinating other work with another contractor (see R and R Concrete) that sometimes caused delays. They showed up when expected, excavated one side of the house and dug holes on the other (walk out basement) for the piers.  When finished the yard was repaired as good as could be expected for St Louis summer. I have a little work to do on it now that it has cooled off. I had to have cracks repaired inside and concrete work done on the outside.  The people they recommended did wonderful work. <br />"

FAQs for concrete patios, walks & steps installation projects in Bismarck, ND

Most sidewalks rely on a ready‑mix blend of Portland cement, sand, gravel, and water that trucks deliver to your site and pour in one continuous lift. For added strength, many contractors fold in fiber mesh or steel reinforcement. This mix cures into a rock‑solid slab that stands up to foot traffic, freeze‑thaw cycles, and daily wear for decades. Expect a pro to recommend a 4‑inch‑thick pour for standard walkways.

With the right mix, proper drainage, and routine upkeep, a concrete sidewalk can last 25 to 50 years. Freeze‑thaw cycles, road salt, and heavy loads all shorten that timeline, but sealing every few years and patching small cracks early keeps damage in check. Think of sealing as inexpensive insurance for decades of safe, stable footing. In milder climates, some slabs push well past the 30‑year mark without major repairs.

Concrete sidewalks crack as a result of significant temperature fluctuations and heavy load pressures. The freeze-thaw cycles and sustained weight from vehicles or intense foot traffic force the concrete to develop cracks over time. Applying a premium sealant every two to three years and substituting salt with sand for de-icing minimizes crack formation. Regular maintenance and timely repairs safeguard the sidewalk’s structural integrity and extend its service life.
