Only discovered it when I had a fire and saw smoke coming from outside the fireplace. When a different contractor took out the fireplace, the beams in the walls were scotched and blackened. It's a wooden house, and I had my whole family inside the house that night. They always cemented the chimney cap to the top of the chimney so it couldn't be cleaned."
