"Lukas and his team were excellent. We received several quotes - Lukas was competitive and the most straightforward. Rather than trying to sell us on the "features" of various components, he honestly assessed our house as a pretty standard roofing job. The job was completed over a day and a half within a week of signing the contract - one day for the carpentry work and half a day for the roof. Lukas was extremely responsive to one small change we asked for on the carpentry work. We emailed him at night and the change was already done by 8:30 the next morning. Highly recommended."

"I was told they would be here at 7.00am and they arrived earlier. Roof, garage and 2 skylights replaced. The roof was finished in 1 day. They did a excellent job. The clean up crew did a great job. everything was picked up in our yard. Dennis was great he checked the work before starting the roof, and also at the end of the day checked again to make sure everything was right."

"The whole process went very well. From talking over the different options with John to the installation, we couldn't be happier. United Better Homes were always quick to respond to questions or emails and were very fair in giving us the pricing info up front. Compared to some other pushy sales people/companies UBH were much nicer and made us feel comfortable. The windows look great- we went with Marvin Infinity. Highly recommend the clean look and they work great."

"Quoted price was $11,000 with fixed minimal free roof board replacements. Was charged $400.00 for additional roof boards that were needed on both the house and garage due to tree limb damage in the past. Matched the older existing boards for thickness. <br /> Showed up on time, did both jobs in one day, plus a few hours the next day for final cleanup and soffit vents. Construction dumpster in driveway for one day only. <br /> They did loosen a front porch light fixture while stripping the roof in the front of the house. No one noticed, but repairs were easy and thought if that's only bad thing that happened, then I was in good shape. I'm sure they would have fixed if asked. <br /> Would recommend to anyone. Am planning to use them on a second house in Jamestown, R.I. <br /> No deposit necessary: That's all they do - roofs only. <br />"

"Could not be happier with my roof replacement I had done with Ravin LLC. When shopping round for quotes as a single woman I received some outrageous bids but Ravin LLC provided me with a reasonable quote, professional itemized list of costs and plenty of options and suggestions for what products to use. The material and dumpster arrived timely, the crew finished my room in one day and the clean up was impressive with nothing left behind at my house or in my yard. Would highly recommend!"

"Great! I had them look at my gutters about adding flashing and they showed that the original contractor did not install flashing at all! Behind my gutters Also showed me the improper work done by the people that repaired my roof. I really appreciate their honesty and excellent work Would use again and highly recommend."

FAQs for roofing installation & roof repair projects in Block Island, RI

An average Cape Cod roof-raising project requires approximately two to three months from start to finish. The timeline depends on several variables, including weather conditions, contractor availability, material delivery schedules, and the specific complexity of your home's structure. The process involves multiple phases, including demolition, framing, roofing, window installation, and interior finishing. Working with an experienced contractor who provides a detailed timeline can help set realistic expectations for the project duration.

While most Cape Cod homes can accommodate roof-raising modifications, each house requires individual structural assessment. Older homes may need foundation reinforcement or wall strengthening before supporting additional weight. Factors like the existing roof framing system, load-bearing wall placement, and overall structural integrity all influence feasibility. A qualified structural engineer should evaluate your specific property before proceeding with design plans. Additionally, local zoning ordinances may restrict maximum building height or architectural modifications in certain neighborhoods.

Temporary relocation is highly recommended during a Cape Cod roof raising project. The construction process involves removing portions of your existing roof, exposing interior spaces to potential weather damage, and creating significant noise and dust. Most homeowners find temporary accommodations for the two to three-month construction period, with relocation costs ranging from $2,000 to $6,000, depending on your housing choices. If staying with family or friends isn't possible, budget for short-term rental or extended-stay hotel expenses as part of your overall project cost.

Consider roof raising when you experience severely limited headroom throughout the second floor, find yourself constantly stooping under sloped ceilings, or have minimal usable floor space due to low ceiling heights. Other indicators include inadequate natural light, poor ventilation, and difficulty accommodating standard furniture in upstairs rooms. Simple renovations can improve an attic's appearance, but cannot create additional headroom without structural modifications. A complete roof-raising project makes more sense than cosmetic renovations if you're seeking genuine second-floor living space rather than just storage improvements.

Begin your search by seeking contractors with specific experience in Cape Cod structural modifications and dormer additions. Request detailed portfolios showing similar completed projects and ask for references from previous clients with comparable work. Verify that potential contractors hold appropriate licenses and insurance coverage and understand local building codes relevant to roof raising. Interview multiple candidates, comparing price quotes and their communication style, project approach, and proposed timeline. The ideal contractor should demonstrate a thorough understanding of Cape Cod architectural characteristics and structural requirements.
