Small jobs welcome

"The team at Epic Radon was professional and courteous. They provided good explanation of the work to be done and a competitive price. Once they were given the green light to go, the installation only took about 3 hours. Other than the extremely slow permitting process from the Township of Canton and our local HOA, I was pleased with the project."

"Let me start by saying the Radon system works, we are below EPA limits. The product is fine, the installation and customer service is where all the issues were. My first issue, the estimate I signed said cracks in the basement floor would?ve filled. Instead the technician left me two tubes of silicone and told me ?you probably want to fill anything you can see depth into?. I paid $1045, the guy was here for 2.5 hours. I expected him to fulfill the estimate. My second issue came when I went to review the work before the technician departed. The siding he cut a hole in was bowed out from the side of the house. I had to point out the issue, encourage the fix. The last and most egregious of the issues. The technician?s van left a dozen or more oil stains in my driveway. If it was one small spot, sure, leak started recently, he didn?t know. But a dozen? That?s been leaking a while, park your car on the street when you?re at a customers house. Super unprofessional and careless. "

"Sara and her employees are simply the best you can hire. Every interaction was incredibly professional. I felt like we were the only customer they had at the time. They are extremely efficient, always on time, and about as kind as you can get. And, their work was first class. I totally recommend them! Excellent service!"

"Mark did an amazingly thorough inspection on a property we were planning to purchase. He found several significant issues and explained and documented the risks for each one which helped us decide it wasn’t the right home for us. Once we found a new potential property we hired Mark again. He let us tag along during the inspection and answered all our questions. His inspection reports are extremely detailed and include pictures for references. If you want peace of mind or to know what issues may lurk in a new home he is the guy to call!!"

"During a heat wave in August with temps in the 90s, our air conditioner went out. We had a technician come out on Monday morning who recommended replacement of our unit. I purchased the Enhanced Service Plan for $250 which would provide two annual maintenance services. I was told that the office would call us back with an estimate. Near the end of the day, we called and asked for an estimate and were told we would receive one in the morning. We waited until after noon on Tuesday to make a decision on which company to go with after receiving 2 other estimates. Given the heat wave and having not received an estimate from Mark IV at that time, we decided to go with a company. I emailed asking if I could receive a refund on the Enhanced Service Plan due to the untimely estimate and the company we ended up going with requiring us to use their service for the first year for warranty purposes. I never received a reply or a refund."

"Our Inspector was not thorough at all. He turned the water on for the bathroom sink and then the shower in the front bathroom and when he did the water in the sink almost stopped flowing and he didn't notice that so I pointed it out to him and from that point he should have proceeded to ck the water flow in the rest of the house to see if the whole house had low flow issues but he didn't. The Inspector also noticed a flexible gas line off of the water heater that ran through the floor into the crawl and to a wall heater just on the other side of the wall and said it didn't have a ground on it but he would look at it in the crawl space but he didn't go over to where the flex gas line was. When he proceeded to the crawl space he only checked a very small part of the crawl with the largest areas of the crawl only accessible or visible through passthrough openings due to solid block support walls and this is a very easily accessible crawl space. I pointed out a wet looking spot on one of the block walls which was on the other end of the crawl from where we were and he wouldn't check into that and told me to ask the homeowner if they had and leakage issues in the crawl space so we had to get another crawl space inspection from another company 2 days later, and I'm sure the home owner would have said oh yeah you are gonna be screwed when it rains. No appliances were checked for proper operation. During the attic inspection he didn't see a switch for the attic light so he used his flashlight, I looked at the light to see why he didn't turn it on and I followed the cord up and over the door where it was plugged into a droplight that had no bulb or guard on it exposing a shock hazard and it was ran over to an outlet and plugged in so I pointed that out to him also because he didn't see it. The Inspector never found the Master bedroom and bath (unbelievable) that is in the back corner of the house down a hallway so none of that even got looked at. The $75 charge for a Septic Inspection consisted of turning on the kitchen sink faucet, putting the dye in the drain and immediately proceeded to make 1 pass around the property which he went well into the neighbors back yard and I had to tell him about that. This Inspector was extremely absent minded on this day. I did follow J.M. through this whole inspection process."

FAQs for radon gas abatement projects in Bloomington, IN

The only way to know whether your home or water supply contains radon is to schedule a professional test. A qualified radon inspector will collect samples, deliver lab-verified results, and explain the findings for $150 to $800. Once you know your exact levels, you and your radon mitigation pro can choose the right system and tackle the problem before it affects your family’s health.

Both roles tackle radon, but they focus on different steps. Inspectors test your home, interpret the results, and determine whether levels exceed EPA guidelines. Mitigation pros design and install the system that lowers those levels. Some companies do both, but the skills and equipment differ, so always verify that the person you hire is properly certified for the specific service you need.

Installing a mitigation unit fixes radon problems by reducing indoor gas levels to established safe standards. A system designed and installed by a mitigation expert, tailored to your home's specific layout and foundation, guarantees effective radon reduction. This expert installation ensures consistent performance over time while safeguarding your indoor air quality.

Open windows and doors do not reduce radon levels because they trigger a pressure imbalance that draws radon-laden air into your home. This practice fails to control radon concentration and can even worsen the issue. An active suction mitigation system provides a proven, safe, and effective solution to reliably reduce radon levels.

Radon mitigation systems generally last between 10 and 30 years, depending on system type and maintenance. Passive systems endure the longest because they have no moving parts, whereas active systems, which use a fan, require fan replacement every 5 to 10 years. System components, such as PVC pipes, seals, and fittings, can remain effective for decades when paired with periodic inspections and proper maintenance.

Radon mitigation systems consume between 300 and 3,000 kWh of electricity per year, depending on fan size and system design. On average, an active radon fan draws 100 to 300 watts continuously, which translates to roughly 876 kWh annually, and adds $30 to $300 to your energy bill each year. Choosing a high-efficiency fan and ensuring tight sealing around pipes helps minimize these ongoing costs.
