Customers say: Quick response

"Although this company was new to Home Advisor I was very pleased with the responsiveness of the owner Michael Sheppard and hired him immediately upon meeting him. The project was to expand our deck to wrap around the side of the house and around a hot tub. He built a platform for the hot tub and arranged for an electrician to wire it up so that it was ready for immediate use. As we do not live at the house fulltime, we were kept informed with pictures and messages and the end result exceeded all our expectations. In a time where it is so difficult to get anybody to respond to inquiries, let alone actually do any work, we could not be happier with our choice to use this company. We have several more projects for the house and his company seems to do it all. I cannot recommend him highly enough."

"We absolutely love our new back deck/screened in room. I talked to Pete told him what we wanted and he built it to perfection. There was no corners cut period. Let me tell ya folks you get what you pay for. Pete was a pleasure to work with and very understanding when we asked questions. He even took time to show me how to do a few things that I had always wanted to know how to do. Don’t hesitate to hire Stair Man Trim Carpentry. You will be pleased with the out come."

"I have had my house pressure washed before and was not pleased but I can honestly say Mr. Eddie and his team did a outstanding job. My house and bricks were covered with mold, mildew and accumulated grime and dirt. I am so pleased and appreciative of his work and professionalism. I would highly recommend his company."

"I would highly recommend this business.  We had them come and restain the deck and at first just powerwash the house.  They scheduled the work right away.  After doing the pressure washing, there were some areas with paint chips under the soffit.  Mike offered to repaint those for free.  During this, they noticed areas of the soffit that were rotten, so we had them repair those areas of the wood.  They also fixed a few screens that were damaged during the pressure washing for free.
Everything turned out great, and we are very happy we had this work done.  Mike and Crystal are very professional and easy to work with.  I will be having them do some more work on our house in the near future.

Small jobs welcome

"We hired Tommy and his crew to replace supports, build a custom rail system, and build two gates for our back deck. Tommy made sure to outline material/labor costs upfront and worked with local vendors to ensure the most economical options for our project. They worked through some pretty rough weather, but put in full-days and always left the job-site clean. The crew's attention to detail was incredible, and suggestions they had along the way were always welcomed as we truly felt they were focused on the quality of their work. My wife and I are confident that we have found a trusted crew that we very much look forward to working with for our next project."

"

Mathew and his crew did an awesome job in replacing the rotted Vertical board that ran along my roof and front porch as well as replacing my rotted columns as well.  Mathew and his crew arrived on time every day and also asked if they could also arrive earlier than what I had stated as they want to put in as much time as needed to complete the work in a timely and efficient manner.

Regarding the work, they made precision cuts every time and applied silicone or some type of putty over any holes where they used nails to fasten the Hardy Board to the house.  They also replaced four vertical columns for my porch and did a magnificent job.  They were installed perfectly with no issues at all.  They had put silicone in the flutes where they ran into the base and painted accordingly with the upmost care.  I had them take care of some protruding wood knots from some 1x10’s that kept surrounded my porch that were coming through the paint.  They applied 4 coats of Kilz to fix that and then painted all the vertical board and columns accordingly.  I had another contractor that gave up on that issue and told me that I had to deal with it as there was nothing he could do.  Mathew and his team made it happen.

I am now requesting another quote for additional work to be done inside regarding a Folding door closet that will hide our washer and dryer as well as some sheet rock work that is needed in one of our bedrooms.

To comment on a previous customers review where she had given a TCB construction a very bad commentary and grade amazes my wife and I.  The both of us cannot believe the level of professionalism and high quality of work that was done at our home.  We plan to use Mathew and his crew for the future projects of our home.

Sincerely,

Steve

FAQs for wood stairs and railings repair projects in Blowing Rock, NC

Hiring a pro to refinish wooden stairs means labor makes up 20% to 30% of your total budget. That price covers sanding, staining, and sealing each step. In most cases, a certified refinisher can tackle a 10-step staircase in about two hours, then apply stain and sealant for a durable, eye-catching finish that stands up to daily traffic.

A pro can sand a standard 10-step staircase in roughly two hours, then needs another four to six hours for each coat of stain and sealant to dry. DIYers should budget up to a week for sanding, staining, and sealing in stages. With a crew on site, the bulk of the work is completed in a single day, minimizing disruptions while still achieving a high-quality finish.

It’s possible to refinish stairs without full-scale sanding by using chemical strippers, power buffers, or simply layering a fresh finish over the existing coat. Chemical strippers break down old stains and sealants, while buffers quickly shave off surface material. Even so, a quick hand-sand with fine-grit paper helps the new finish bond properly and look smooth. As always, suit up in protective gear and follow product directions to keep your wood—and yourself—safe.

For most stair projects, you’ll want two sandpaper grits. Begin with 80- to 120-grit to strip the old finish and even out rough spots, then move to 150- to 220-grit for a smooth, ready-for-stain surface. A power sander speeds up the coarse pass, but switches to hand sanding with the fine grit in corners and along edges to keep abrasion even and give stain or sealer something to grab onto.
