"The employees who installed my system were very professional, and quick for the work they perfromed. They routed the air through an attic space to prevent having an ugly pipe sticking out of my home at no extra charge. Others who provided estimates wanted to charge extra. Although they installed a new water system, they had a problem with a factory item. They came back the next day with a new unit."

"First off - DO NOT DO PAY FOR THEIR WATER AND RADON TESTS!  They are over-priced and take way too long for results.  In fact we never received our water report!  Do it yourself, get tests from a reputable and more reasonable lab, such as www.etrlabs.com/ in Leominster.  We paid PC&A almost as much for the tests as the inspection and didn't have results within a week! <br /> PC&A also are pretty big on CYA, so don't expect too much out of the inspection report.  They were very good one-on-one during the inspection.  Although they pulled the classic 'get there 30 minutes early and do the roof first'.  When you arrive on time they will tell you 'oh, we did the roof first and found this and that', but they won't take you up there.  This is annoying, if you are going to buy a house, and pay for an inspection, and the roof isn't crazy steep or high, then you MUST walk the roof.  Preferably aided by a professional who can walk you through the various issue.  In our case the roof had all sorts of problems.  I didn't get a clear idea what they were based on the inspection and report and therefore had to pay a roofer to come out and walk me through the problems.  So I paid twice! <br /> All the negatives aside, we really did find the remainder of the inspection helpful, both the inspectors were knowledgable and responsive to questions, and brought issues to our attention.  We did not end up purchasing the house, based in part on issues uncovered during the inspection, so it wasn't a total waste of money.  When we did find the right house for us, we had a different inspector and did the water/radon tests ourselves.  In total it came in $450 less than with PC&A and the inspection/report was just as good, plus we had our inspection and tests results emailed to use within 48 hours. <br />"

"Showed up on time, performed a nice clean install, explained the whole system, and sealed off my sump pit. Very informative, professional and prompt. They offered a $100 discount for referral that I got from my real estate agent, and I could not have been happier with the work."

"Overall A+ experience from start to finish. Terry replied to my email and voicemail promptly as well as explained the scope of his work. On the day of inspection, I arrived 15 minutes early and found Terry was already busy working; inspecting and talking pictures of the outside structure and front yard. After a few minutes of observing him, I felt very good and confident that I picked the right person for the job. This was the guy who really knew what he’s doing and paid attention to all the details. As a female who didn’t know anything about home maintenance and improvements, Terry explained everything to me patiently and answered all my questions. He pointed me to issues that needed to be addressed soon and things that I needed to keep an eye out as well as some basic maintenance. The property had a finished basement and I’m glad that Terry had an infrared sensor to check for heat loss and moisture; those issues might not be visible because the basement wall was finished/painted. <br /> I chose Radstar Radon Monitor to eliminate the wait. Both home inspection and radon result were delivered promptly via email. I’m very satisfied and highly recommend Seacoast Inspection. <br /> <br />"

"It is really a nice experience to work with John and Kevin. Our house has a funny foundation. There is a block in the middle and half of the house has radon and the other half does not have much. At first time, Kevin came on time, worked very professionally and got the first pipe and big fan installed. But unfortunately, this pipe is in the not much radon side and the radon score did not drop down too much. We were very worried and called the EAGLE ENVIRONMENTAL again. They arranged the second appointment and Kevin did more tests and installed the second pipe on the side of the foundation WITH NO EXTRA COSTS. And then magic happened, our radon number dropped to almost 0 now. :) Thanks you Kevin and EAGLE ENVIRONMENTAL again for the fantastic work!"

"MKC made the whole home inspection process extremely easy.  We needed to have an inspection in a short timeline (we were calling Thursday for the following week) and contacted MKC after reading reviews here and on Yelp.  MKC was able to accommodate this short timeline by scheduling us for the following Monday at 9:00 am. <br /> While our realtor had recommended other inspectors and MKC's price was a slightly higher than others, I was very happy we went with MKC.  We worked with Morgan, who was extremely thorough, detailed, and professional.  He was very attentive to all aspects of the house (from small items such as dishwasher positioning to larger drainage issues) and explained everything to us in detail.  He also took his time to check everything carefully, rather than rush the process, while taking thorough notes and photos.  The end result was a detailed and clear punch list report, which he prepared within 24 hours. <br />   <br /> We had planned to perform a radon test that day as well but unfortunately were unable to do so because of the amount of work still in progress on the house. We plan to have Morgan back both for the radon test and to check the results of the work on punch list items. <br />"

FAQs for radon gas abatement projects in Boston, MA

The only way to know whether your home or water supply contains radon is to schedule a professional test. A qualified radon inspector will collect samples, deliver lab-verified results, and explain the findings for $150 to $800. Once you know your exact levels, you and your radon mitigation pro can choose the right system and tackle the problem before it affects your family’s health.

Both roles tackle radon, but they focus on different steps. Inspectors test your home, interpret the results, and determine whether levels exceed EPA guidelines. Mitigation pros design and install the system that lowers those levels. Some companies do both, but the skills and equipment differ, so always verify that the person you hire is properly certified for the specific service you need.

Installing a mitigation unit fixes radon problems by reducing indoor gas levels to established safe standards. A system designed and installed by a mitigation expert, tailored to your home's specific layout and foundation, guarantees effective radon reduction. This expert installation ensures consistent performance over time while safeguarding your indoor air quality.

Open windows and doors do not reduce radon levels because they trigger a pressure imbalance that draws radon-laden air into your home. This practice fails to control radon concentration and can even worsen the issue. An active suction mitigation system provides a proven, safe, and effective solution to reliably reduce radon levels.

Radon mitigation systems generally last between 10 and 30 years, depending on system type and maintenance. Passive systems endure the longest because they have no moving parts, whereas active systems, which use a fan, require fan replacement every 5 to 10 years. System components, such as PVC pipes, seals, and fittings, can remain effective for decades when paired with periodic inspections and proper maintenance.

Radon mitigation systems consume between 300 and 3,000 kWh of electricity per year, depending on fan size and system design. On average, an active radon fan draws 100 to 300 watts continuously, which translates to roughly 876 kWh annually, and adds $30 to $300 to your energy bill each year. Choosing a high-efficiency fan and ensuring tight sealing around pipes helps minimize these ongoing costs.
