"Our heater stopped functioning on Nov 27, 2023 and we called Petro who had done the maintenance on it before and replaced a motor two years ago. They were responsive and a technician came two days later. He worked for 3 hours without explaining what the problem was. Then said he needed to replace the motor. He fixed the problem and left without much explanation. Two days later a bill of $2500 came via email. No explanation, no break-down. I called 4 times over the last 20 days, spoke to 4 different reps and was promised that a supervisor will contact me with the bill details. Nothing happened. Irresponsible customer service and unprofessional behavior. They show all the symptoms of big, bureaucratic, and indifferent service company. I would not recommend Petro if you have options of more personalized services."

"Very fittingly - Wind River's customer service absolutely STINKS. We used this company for nearly 15 years to service our septic and they consistently did a good job. However, they broke one of the covers to our septic system during their most recent cleaning and, despite repeated calls/requests that they fix the issue, they still have not done so three months later. We now have to find another provider."

Contracting services

"Michael and his crew built a large addition to our house on what was once a walk up attic. The homeowners supplied approved prints, engaged the architect, and handled processing a variance with the city. Michael acquired the permit and provided the building/contracting services. The permit was acquired in August, work did not begin until November, and the permit was closed in September the following year. Overall, Michael’s direct employees (foreman, carpenters, and painters) did a good job; finish work was excellent. However, his subcontractors (plumbing, HVAC, electrician) repeatedly caused substantial trouble and showed a lack of care/understanding in their work. Plumbers shouldn’t pretend to be electricians, and HVAC contractors should engineer their install and follow manufacturer’s specifications - it’s not a guessing game. Michael himself was at times easy to deal with and understanding (like when our attic was flooded causing damage to the lower two floors), and other times patronizing and seemingly unaware of his own subs schedules. Poor project planning early on w/material lead times (windows) lead to no attic insulation over the winter & a pest infestation. Quoting & invoicing from Michael had double counted items and was obviously copied over from a previous project, while leaving out key items such as masonry work. Multiple mistakes set the project back and cost us time, sanity, comfort, and money (some of which was reimbursed). The list includes: frying the main thermostat (multiple times), shorting out the boiler control board, reversing hot/cold water lines, leaving water to the house mostly shutoff, the list goes on… None of these problems were identified by the contractors but left for us (homeowners) to discover in a string of unfortunate test scenarios during the evening. To Michael’s credit most were fixed reasonably quickly. The HVAC subs were probably the most consternating, repeatedly demonstrating a lack of understanding in their own profession which at several points nearly derailed the entire project. As the last laugh the project was ‘finished’ without ever testing the heat in the new 3rd floor, and the A/C system still struggles with low cooling demands. We would not recommend hiring them for a major addition. We do not trust their subcontractors. If you have a simple painting, carpentry, bathroom, or kitchen renos they can probably handle it."

"6/1/23 service call. I have used this company in the past a few times and gave them 5 star reviews each time! They have a lot of employees and it's hit or miss as to the service you get. Unfortunately this time, service for my HVAC went very wrong and the company took no responsibility for it! I used my AC on 5/7/23 right before we went on vacation. When we returned from vacation we noticed the outside fan was spinning for a week without the AC being on. The fan never stopped turning after the one day we used it. We shut the power off to it while we waited for the appointment. MacFarlane came out to service me on 6/1/23 and it turned into a very long call. He kept calling his office as he was working. The tech told me that mice had got to the wires on my outside AC unit and because the fan spun for a week a few parts were burnt out. He replaced the capacitor, contactor and the wires on the outside of the unit. He never took the cover of the unit and said the unit was old and wouldn't last long. He never came in the house or tested my AC, nor did I know the AC wasn't working because it was blowing cool air the 1 time we used it on 5/7/23, the only reason for the call was because the fan had not stopped spinning. The next time I went to use the AC, which was a week later on Memorial day, it was blowing warm air. It turns out the tech misdiagnosed the problem and a subsequent call, diagnosed it was the compressor, so I paid for replacement parts and labor of $511.84 for no reason. Incidentally, one of the parts can be found on line for $11 and the other for $8. The mark up I was charged was outrageous! I called them back and told the receptionist the preceding which she half listened to based on her response which made no sense and she was rude about it. No acknowledgment or accountability was made by the company, and no discounts were offered for the negligence. An apology goes a long way! We are very disappointed in the handling of this situation. Very poor customer service!"
