The tech notices discoloration on a burner tube and thinks there's a small crack and the whole burner needs replacing. Company X gives me a quote and I sit on it for a few months. Company Y comes to also give a quote for replacing the boiler. By now, the rate of water loss is faster, and I can see steam escaping from around the sight tube. I mention this. I get a quote to replace the boiler, but nothing is done to the boiler. Now Malone Plumbing comes to give me a third quote for replacing the boiler. I mention the steam escaping. No. A month later I can say that the sight tube was the entire problem. No more rapid water loss. So a little investigating and action cost less than $200 and postponed a $9000 replacement job. That's the kind of problem-solving you want, right?"
