"This is the third project that EA Masonry has completed for us and as the other two projects went, this was top notch as expected. Dan and his guys demo’d a huge, old concrete patio and stairs along with clearing out numerous overgrown bushes. They installed a new patio and walkway along with two sets of entry stairs. The craftsmanship from EA Masonry is incredible and we recommend them to everyone we know who needs any type of masonry work done. You will not be disappointed."

"These guys are great! They showed up on time, got a difficult job done in only a few hours and they cleaned everything up when they were done. These hedges were HUGE and they were able to remove all of them. Highly recommend."

"Dave and his friendly, professional crew installed a beautiful cedar picket fence on our less than level yard and it came out great! They also put up some nice black chain link fencing for us. The price was reasonable and the job was done when promised. I recommend Kingsley Improvements!"

"Overall, this was a great experience! I called the company late Monday afternoon and got a call back within an hour. I was able to get an appointment the next day due to a cancellation they had. My technician, Justin, arrived on time and worked very efficiently. I asked a lot of questions before and during the procedure and he took the time to show me and explain what he would be doing at each step. That brought me peace of mind. Justin carefully chipped away the concrete around the pipe and found the gaps between the foundation and pipe (which he showed me). He cleaned the areas, inserted copper tubing into the gaps, packed the area with cement and then injected an expanding urethane product into the tubes to fill the gaps. Once the areas were filled, he cut the tubes and capped everything with a large rubber patch. The final product is very neat, clean, and I have a dry basement for the first time in over a month. Prior to this, I had terrible experiences with a number of contractors who either would not touch the job or would only do it as part of a replacement of the whole pipe in from the well (at a cost of over $2000). This company handled the job within a few hours for for under $600. I'm very pleased with the work and although I hope I do not have trouble like this in the future, I would definitely call them back if I had similar needs."

"Jason surpassed all competitors and my wildest expectations with respect to price, quality, and speed in which he constructed the front steps with stone work integrated into the facade and granite treads. I had already been informed that once demolished, my new staircase would need to include an additional step in order to be up to code. I had two quotes, and got Kirby's number from a neighbor that had a very impressive staircase recently constructed. Jason's quote was more than $1,000 below the previous lowest estimate, which I liked immediately, but he also demolished my old staircase and constructed a beautiful new one with the additional step, and completed all pointing of my stonework surrounding the stairs in a SINGLE DAY. When it was clear it was going to rain that day, he said "No problem" and built a tent around the workspace in order to complete the job. As if all that weren't enough, I had asked he incorporate a number of stones that matched the foundation of my porch into the stairs and he did it beautifully. I am happy to write him a detailed review on Angie's List which is the only thing he asked for in return. I will definitely call Kirby Masonry for projects in the future and would recommend them to anyone. Cheers!"

"I got a timely response from Paul Longo of Mr. Fence upon my request for a quote.  Very competitive price given.  Had the best, vinyl picket fence that I could find from my research.  Gave me a window within which they would do the work.  Work done quicker than anticipated.  In fact, they wanted to do the work much earlier than I had anticipated and I had to cancel them the day they left a phone message on when they wanted to start.  No problem with cancellation.  Project done in a workmanlike fashion.  Old fence removed.  No complaints about the work or the way grounds were left.  Neighbors complimentary of fence upon completion.  Plan to use them again for matching gate work. <br />"

"The Driveway Specialists were hired to pave our driveway, we agreed on a price of $3500. Work was done on 10/12/2013. <br /> Driveway looked beautiful, but when we were able to walk on it, we did not find the cap of the shut-off gas valve for the house- THEY PAVED OVER THE SHUT-OFF GAS VALVE CAP, DID NOT NOTICE IT!!! THE ROUND CAP OF THE SHUT-OFF GAS VALVE FOR THE HOUSE WAS CLEARLY VISIBLE BEFORE DRIVEWAY WAS RE-DONE!!! AND THEN IT HAS DISAPPEARED UNDER THE NEW PAVEMENT!!! <br /> Contractor was informed and asked to fix this in spring when the weather permits. All communications were with James Flynn, one of the owners, a young man who takes care of the Norfolk county part of their business. He was at the property when the work was done. We called him in the beginning of April, and again at the end of April as we did not hear from the company. We asked contractor to contact Dig Safe as we felt it was their responsibility to fix their own error. Per Dig Safe request Columbia Gas person came and marked the gas valve location spot on the pavement. Contractor cut 2x2x2 ft opening in the newly paved driveway, and did not find the valve as the marking was one foot off. Per our request Columbia Gas came back, cut the opening one foot longer, located, repaired, and raised the valve to the level of the new pavement. They filled and patched the hole, it looked rough. <br /> We felt it was responsibility of The Driveway Specialists company to fix the rough patch as if not for their mistake paving over the valve, we would not have had this problem. <br /> After multiple calls, James Flynn came and looked at the hole. He promised to fix it using mixture of liquid asphalt and sand. He also said that seal-coating is due this summer, why not to do it at the same time, the price is $350, a $100 discount for our troubles. We agreed and left him a check- never again we will pay for work before seeing how it was done! <br /> Seal-coat was done on 06/18/14, but the ugly patch was not fixed. <br /> We called James again, and asked why the patch was not fixed before seal-coating. He said we have it wrong- seal coating first, then fixing the patch!!! And he will come to fix the patch on 06/24/14, 12:30-1:30. he called at 12:30 to let us know he needs friend's help, and they will come after 6PM. He never came or called again. On 06/25/14 Columbia Gas company contractor (per company's record) came over and performed a rough job around the edges, and took away asphalt cut-outs. <br /> Be aware that Driveway Specialists owners request payment checks to be written to their names, and not to the company name, and immediately cash them. We regret doing this as cancelling the check is not an option. <br /> Both owners are smooth talkers and make a very pleasant first impression, but luck experience and do not keep their word. <br />"

FAQs for concrete patios, walks & steps installation projects in Brant-rock, MA

Most sidewalks rely on a ready‑mix blend of Portland cement, sand, gravel, and water that trucks deliver to your site and pour in one continuous lift. For added strength, many contractors fold in fiber mesh or steel reinforcement. This mix cures into a rock‑solid slab that stands up to foot traffic, freeze‑thaw cycles, and daily wear for decades. Expect a pro to recommend a 4‑inch‑thick pour for standard walkways.

With the right mix, proper drainage, and routine upkeep, a concrete sidewalk can last 25 to 50 years. Freeze‑thaw cycles, road salt, and heavy loads all shorten that timeline, but sealing every few years and patching small cracks early keeps damage in check. Think of sealing as inexpensive insurance for decades of safe, stable footing. In milder climates, some slabs push well past the 30‑year mark without major repairs.

Concrete sidewalks crack as a result of significant temperature fluctuations and heavy load pressures. The freeze-thaw cycles and sustained weight from vehicles or intense foot traffic force the concrete to develop cracks over time. Applying a premium sealant every two to three years and substituting salt with sand for de-icing minimizes crack formation. Regular maintenance and timely repairs safeguard the sidewalk’s structural integrity and extend its service life.
