"He was really professional. Told me exactly what he was going to do and broke the invoice down and showed me exactly where my money was going. He was on time got the job done exactly how he said he was going to. Cleaned up after the job was done and left my place better then when he got there. I will be using him for other projects in the future. Highly recommend him and his crew. "

"First of all, Nathan called me back, which doesn’t happen that often with contractors around here! Their price was very reasonable and I didn’t feel that I was being ripped off. The work was professional and timely. Won’t know until winter/spring if fixed problem but I’m confident it did or they will make it right."

"P&H Construction is outstanding, exceptional. Sam is a consummate professional and the P&H work product is top notch. It is nearly impossible to fully express in words in a review how much this company did for my little family to resolve a very complicated, very difficult situation, sewer line, water line, tough terrain, ledge...We needed help, looked virtually everywhere in and outside of Conecticut, and Sam and P&H were the only true solution, start to finish. From ground break to final backfill, Sam was there, great communication all along. P and H worked with the Town the whole way, from Permit to Certicate of Completion. The words "honesty" and "integrity" get tossed around a lot, but if your'e looking for a company, people, who epitomize and embody those words, make Sam and P & H your next call. Thank you P & H and Sam for all you did for us, forever grateful. "

FAQs for concrete patios, walks & steps installation projects in Brookings, SD

Most sidewalks rely on a ready‑mix blend of Portland cement, sand, gravel, and water that trucks deliver to your site and pour in one continuous lift. For added strength, many contractors fold in fiber mesh or steel reinforcement. This mix cures into a rock‑solid slab that stands up to foot traffic, freeze‑thaw cycles, and daily wear for decades. Expect a pro to recommend a 4‑inch‑thick pour for standard walkways.

With the right mix, proper drainage, and routine upkeep, a concrete sidewalk can last 25 to 50 years. Freeze‑thaw cycles, road salt, and heavy loads all shorten that timeline, but sealing every few years and patching small cracks early keeps damage in check. Think of sealing as inexpensive insurance for decades of safe, stable footing. In milder climates, some slabs push well past the 30‑year mark without major repairs.

Concrete sidewalks crack as a result of significant temperature fluctuations and heavy load pressures. The freeze-thaw cycles and sustained weight from vehicles or intense foot traffic force the concrete to develop cracks over time. Applying a premium sealant every two to three years and substituting salt with sand for de-icing minimizes crack formation. Regular maintenance and timely repairs safeguard the sidewalk’s structural integrity and extend its service life.
