"We were in the unfortunate position of needing to replace two HVAC units in our home at the same time. We learned that our son is sensitive to mold and found that our existing units, which were 15 years old, had mold in the plenum. We reached out to five local A/C businesses in efforts to find a person or company we felt comfortable with who would install two new, trustworthy HVACs with a filtration system to combat mold. My straightforward, less-than-20-minute fix was quoted at over $600 to snake. This is an outrageous markup for such a basic job. As a former small business owner, I find these tactics troubling. This is a textbook example of bait-and-switch advertising — grabbing attention with a low price, then upselling with inflated charges once the customer is committed.
