"Elvis has a great work ethic, he calls you back, shows up on time and works efficiently and finishes on time or better. He made our floors beautiful ! They were stained with tar from the old underlayment and pretty horrible looking. Some of the wood needed to be replaced, he was very skilled in fixing all the repair issues. My husband and I highly recommend him."

Small jobs welcome

"Anthony and Andy installed new wood in the area damaged by water and they staggered it perfectly. You can tell the difference between the existing and the new flooring. Then they refinished the entire flooring that covered two rooms. The estimate was reasonable and the work took a week. It looks so good we donâ t want to cover it with rugs. We will call them to put hardwood on the stairs and hallway upstairs in the future."

"DT Hardwood did an installation for us in 11/2020. They were prompt and did an exceptional job. We have oddly shaped rooms and thats where the attention to detail and focus on quality really shined through. They finished our living room, kitchen and hallway in under a day. Very pleased. If I replace any other floors, I'm going to use them again."

"Sam was excellent. Very efficient and high quality. He completed two rooms with different flooring types in a weekend. The entire process from estimate to install was less than two weeks. I would recommend Sam Im Flooring to anyone without reservations."

"My kitchen floors came out great, and they make the whole room look better. They showed up on time, and got right to work. The room was done quickly because they suggested using a water-based finish that let them apply more than one coat a day. I just want to say thanks for the hard work and I’m so happy with my floor."

"Labyrinth Interior has remodeled our kitchen and both our bathrooms of our house. We chose Labyrinth because they are known in the industry for setting a standard for quality and a memorable experience. They handled the design, project management, inspections, and all the labor for all the projects. The designs do speak for themselves. They were designed to our liking and have made our living space more usable than it ever was before.

Matthew Fleury designed our kitchen. We ran into some issues that we did not anticipate, but we were not surprised since the house is older and previous remodels were not done to code. All changes (electrical, plumbing, architectural, etc.) are now to code.  One issue encountered was upgrading the electrical to the island in our kitchen. Because the original electrical pipe was not thick enough to pull old and new wires through, a new pipe had to be installed to get electrical to the island. There was also an issue after the project was done where the fan/vent installed had a small leak...which was only discovered after heavy rains. Labyrinth fixed this issue promptly. Matthew's design gave us a great-looking kitchen, more storage, and more natural light. We did use a temporary storage area for our kitchen furniture, but Matthew did build a small covered area within the kitchen/dining area for temporary use (ie. microwave, refrigerator).

Matthew also designed both our bathrooms. We love the pebbled shower floor in the Master. The colors make the room interesting dry or wet. The biggest thing was he made sure the water drains to the drain and did not puddle. The use of pebbles and colors, and the materials that Matthew chose was on target for the zen-ish look and feel that I wanted the bathroom to have. Without his vision of design, I'm not sure we would have gotten the room we wanted. We are very happy with this bathroom. I only wish our kids would stay out of it more often, but they find the pebbles so interesting.

The guest bathroom has more storage and is pleasantly a new look from the previous bathroom. The tiles, vanity, lighting, and colors really came together to give the bathroom a new look and feel. Even though the toilet, sink, tub/shower are in the same place as the previous look, the transformation is immense with Matthew's design. The colors added with the rain glass window make the bathroom brighter and much more pleasant than the former bathroom.

I like the way the Labyrinth staff works together to find solutions to the problems encountered. We could not be more pleased!"

"We hired Shane Noonan of Noonan’s Property Service to flatten our backyard so that we would have space to put a large wedding tent. Prior to hiring Shane our backyard had a steep graded hill that rose about 3 feet and had several large tree stumps and boulders that needed to be removed. Shane was highly responsive, came out to look at the yard and gave us a comprehensive quote. He walked us through our options and the various price points in detail and didn’t try to push us into a higher price point than we were comfortable with. Shane’s prices were extremely reasonable and well below other quotes that were not as comprehensive. Shane made us feel like our project was a priority. He showed up on time and completed the work well within the expected timeline. He was able to excavate the yard grading it down to a 2% slope to keep the yard draining properly. He made quick work of removing the tree stumps and boulders. After asking us what our preference was, he placed the boulders in a tidy arrangement along the tree line. He was accommodating when we asked if he could use the excavated earth to smooth out another section of our yard, which wasn’t something we had initially asked for. He brought in loam, graded it out and laid down grass seed and hay. The finished product is a beautiful functional and lush flat backyard that was exactly what we wanted. We would absolutely recommend hiring Noonan’s Property Services and plan to have Shane back again to redo our patio in the spring."

FAQs for wood flooring refinish projects in Bustins-Island, ME

The hardest wood floor finish is aluminum oxide, but it only comes on prefinished boards. If you want something durable you can add after installation, acid-cured is your best bet. The key to the longevity of any type of wood floor is a maintenance coat when a traffic pattern begins to show in high traffic areas.

Moisture-cured urethane is the most durable finish for homes with pets. However, It contains a lot of (VOCs) that can aggravate pets and people, especially at first. If you’re looking for a low-VOC alternative, water-based polyurethane is your best bet.

Bona sells several highly-rated polyurethane hardwood floor finish products, typically through small, local distributors. Brands like DuraSeal or Minwax also rank well for durability and ease of application. They are available at businesses such as Walmart and Amazon.

You have to seal unfinished hardwood floors to protect them from scratches and stains. The frequency depends on the type, but in general it’s ideal to refinish them between four and six times in their lifetime. This comes out to about every seven to 10 years.

Refinishing hardwood floors costs $1,100 to $2,400.

Wood stain adds a color to the surface. A finish adds a level of shine (e.g. matte, low-gloss, high-gloss) and seals the grain to protect against damage. Some companies, such as Minwax, offer products that do both at once.
