Overall, we are extremely pleased with the way our yard/landscaping looks and the job that they performed.  While we had asked that they merely 'top off' the already existing mulch in the beds, due to the lack of experience using this type of mulch they began to thickly apply the nuggets and then ended up needing to purchase another 4-5 yards of bark to finish the job costing us approximately another $400 that we had not expected.  In addition (and I am being picky), when asked to thin out a lilac bush to help the blooming season next year, it was barely touched. And when asked to cut off all the suckers at the bottom of another bush, they cut them back but not all the way to the 'trunk' leaving leaves at the base where I wanted it bare.  Some of the cuttings from the grass plants and other shrubbery were also simply covered in mulch rather than cleaned up before spreading the nugget as well as some grass that had begun to spread into the edge of the plantings which I will now have to go out and weed or spray with grass killer. 

 I would definitely use this company again and plan to in the future.  However, I will probably be much more specific in my directions due to the age/experience of the actual young men on site.

"This was my third time working with this contractor and each project was a pleasurable experience! As was the case with the other two, they started this project on time and finished on time! All the work was done according to strict Mount Lebanon code. They made suggestions based upon their experience i.e we wanted a six foot high shadow box fence but while Mount Lebanon code allows for a six foot high privacy fence of just about any style, they do not allow, by code, a six foot high shadowbox fence. Steve Hilpert proceeded to build us a 4 foot high shadowbox fence (the maximum height allowed by code) with a custom built 2 foot high trellis section which Mount Lebanon subsequently approved. The fence looks beautiful!
I was nervous about cutting a big hole in the wall of our addition to install the sliding glass door. Now the door looks like it has been there all along! It came out PERFECTLY!
The deck is also beautiful and solid as a rock! We had an issue with the location of our two central air conditioning units off the back of the house. The other contractors (which I found here on Angie's List as well) said they would just build over these units. Not knowing anything about central air conditioning this seemed reasonable to me. Steve was the ONLY contractor who told me that you absolutely CAN NOT block the air flow above the units! Not only that, he was honest enough to tell me that moving the units should be done by a qualified HVAC contractor. Now that is a contractor you can trust!
All work was completed on time and within budget. The same crew arrived early each day and were polite and professional. The job site was spotless at the end of each day!
If you are looking for a trustworthy, professional contractor, you can not go wrong with SC Hilpert!!!"

"Very well.  Rick and his lead carpenter gave me some excellent advice on re-designing the trusses for the project, and were very prompt and professional.  I elected not to go forward with project at this time because the bids for it all came in too high and I decided to scale the project down and pursue bids on the re-design at a later date.

"They were very professional. They properly compacted the crushed rock before laying the concrete. They repaired some drains that were damaged in the operation. I have done a lot of concrete work , and then guys were good."

"the coming out and inspection of area was great and they sent the original quote in an agreeable, if not a little slow, time. however they missed one item of estimate which they corrected. however, when I requested they split the two room I was told they would but they never came at the agreed time. i called several times as i needed for the insurance, the price seemed reasonable and i was going to use, the person denied he agreed to re-quote each room on its own and told me unless i paid i was not receiving any quote. i am actually relieved, u think i dodged a horrible situation. i cannot recommend however it would not be fair to advise against using the company, as i think the paperwork and not the repair work is what they are lacking."
