"Our solid oak front door was faded and weathered. Joe from Browder Painting in San Luis Obispo, painstakingly stripped and hand sanded the old varnish off of the door, conditioned the wood, stained the door with a lovely cherry wood finish, and applied two coats of satin varnish to protect the finish. Joe was an outstanding workman. He was extremely courteous, always arrived on time, and cheerfully answered all of my questions. All of the staff and crew from Browder have been exceptional. I would highly recommend Browder Painting."

"Berry Construction did an amazing job helping us to recover from a major flood caused by a plumbing problem. Randy worked with the insurance company to maximize our claim process. Mike did a great job managing the various crews. Billy helped us to stay within our budget to select fixtures, tile and other essentials. We are very pleased with the results."

"The crew did a fantastic job!  Our back deck has lots of spindles/slats that needed to be painted along with the main decking. We had started the job and decided it was very time consuming and hard :-).   <br /> The prep work was very tough and they did a very thorough and professional job. New Life Painting came in with their power washer, power sanders, spray painting equipment, rollers and brushes and completed the job in just three days (it would have taken us months!). <br /> It was truly amazing how quickly and professionally they got the job done. I would highly recommend New Life Painting for any of your painting projects."

"Joe was very easy to work with, and did excellent work. His prices were very reasonable, and he often threw in things at no extra cost, which was wonderful! One of the things that I really appreciated was that he responded back to me promptly whenever I texted him. True to any business, there were times when unexpected things came up and he had to postpone work that he had planned to be doing for me on a certain day, but he always communicated these issues to me, and when I had something that really needed to be done right away (such as getting the plumbing to the washing machine fixed on a weekend) he found a way to make it happen. I will definitely be hiring Joe to do work for me again in the future."

"FANTASTIC!! Husband is retired and was home all the time during the remodel and had no difficulties with contractor being in home; contractor was quite, polite and very respectful of our privacy. He showed up, got daily jobs done. He respected our budget by offering a few extra details that stretched the budget but at all times I never felt pressured to accept his ideas. <br /> The kitchen was securely partitioned off so that there was never a dust problem. <br /> The Work !!! OH the Kitchen looks like I had custom cabinets bought, what a difference having a professional paint your walls so that everything has a and quot;fit and finishand quot; that just screams.... well done. <br /> Would I just Olaf of Calli- Cal again? I'm just sorry I didn't win the Lotto so I have to wait now before I can start my master suite remodel... he's the only one I'll ever call again. You won't be disappointed he was personally involved in ALL the work ALL the time. <br />"

FAQs for cabinets reface projects in Cambria, CA

Absolutely. Refacing returns 65% to 80% of your investment at resale, and you get an updated kitchen right now. Because you’re not paying for new boxes or demo work, the price lands well below complete replacement but still delivers a fresh, custom look that buyers—and you—notice every time you walk in.

To trim costs, start by pricing a high-quality paint or gel stain instead of full refacing—stain alone can be one-third the price of full refacing. Keep existing hinges and pulls if they’re in good shape, and shop sales for sandpaper, primer, and sealer. The sweat equity is real, but so are the savings, and a careful DIY job can still leave your cabinets looking sharp for years to come.

A professional crew needs only three to five days to reface a standard kitchen, although a larger layout or intricate door style may add one to two days. Compare that with the several weeks a full cabinet swap can drag on. In other words, you get your space back fast, often before the paint on the new doors is even fully cured.

Yes, you can replace just the cabinet doors and drawer fronts without covering the cabinet boxes. Cabinet refacing involves installing new doors and drawer fronts while applying veneers to existing cabinet boxes. If you’re satisfied with the condition of your cabinets, swapping doors and drawer fronts reduces labor and materials, saving you time and cost. Always consult a professional to confirm compatibility and ensure a seamless, high-quality finish.

Most cabinet refacing projects do not require removing countertops because professionals can access doors and drawers around existing surfaces. However, if your countertop overhang prevents full access to the cabinet boxes, contractors may need to lift the countertop to install veneers properly temporarily. Discuss this with your refacing specialist during the on-site estimate so you know exactly what the project entails.
