"I contacted Brazil for estimate on a roof replacement from shake to tile. I provided enough specifics (included structural report) regarding what I wanted that they were able to come to the site, measure and then provide back an estimate with enough detail that I was able to compare the bid to competing offers. The bid was detailed and the price quote fair for the type and size of job. They were willing to sit down to go over the details, but since I was already very familiar with what the job would entail, this was not required. I went with another vendor who was able to provide a custom roof tile at a slightly lower overall bid, but again given the size of the job, differences in materials or type of instal methods used etc. most bids can't be compared as apples to apples.
