"We were very pleased. They arrived the day after the storm damage to put up the tarp. The work to replace the roof was excellent. They replaced sagging plywood, installed J channel that should have been there, but was not, and did the flashing around the chimney. They covered the landscaping and used magnets to pick up nails. A representative of the company checked the work the day after completion"

"Everything with american standard roofing went great. Their pricing was right in line (or less) than the other 3 quotes I received. The guy giving the estimate did not have a hard sales pitch or some stupid slide show on a tablet. They simply quoted the job and let me make a decision with out any pressure. When it came to install day they came with a massive crew and had all of the work completed within the same day. I had a lot of decking boards that were rotted and needed to be replaced as well. The new roof looks great and it does not leak."

"I recently sought help from Dr. Flue to repair a gap that had formed where mortar around my chimney had apparently eroded over time. From first contact with their office, to the final visit and completion of the work, my experience with Dr. Flue’s staff was exceptional… They took time to understand the issue and provide me a simple cost estimate; scheduled a time to come out and shot me a reminder a couple days ahead of the visit; then showed up on time and prepared. Once onsite, they confirmed the work we had discussed would address the issue I originally reported. Then pointed out some significant chimney flashing issues I was unable to see from the ground. These were a result of a recent, shoddy roof re-shingle job done by another contractor. I was impressed how they stayed objective and did not bad-mouth the roofers - just pointed out the issues and likely consequences I could expect if they were to go unaddressed. In short, Dr. Flue’s team earned my trust and respect. Alan, Kevon, and Josh, thank you for your time, work, and communication throughout. I will feel very good about recommending Dr. Flue to friends and family. Sincerely, J.Sagan"

"Discovered a small hole in the roof while cleaning gutters. Checked attic and in ran through to the plywood. Looked like tree branch had come down and punctured a hole. Called Roof Advance and they came for an estimate the next day and worked me into their production schedule. Cost for the actual repair came in under the original estimate, price was very reasonable. Repair looks great, can hardly tell a difference from the existing shingles. Glad they could help with such a small job, will definitely consult when the time comes for a new roof."

"Dan Napier is a rarity in business these days! He has integrity, honesty, service, politeness, actually listens to customer, treats customer with respect and provides excellent value/price! I took three estimates for new roof, Napier being one of them. First salesman told me he had best price in area ($12,000) - I wouldn't get anything cheaper. Napier's beat him by $4,000 with ten times better service and more honest assessment. Second salesman high-pressured me to sign contract immediately telling me it would inconvenience him to come back. Great customer service and attitude - NOT! By contrast Dan Napier was polite, genuine, just gave me the facts and was super helpful, no hype or pressure. First guy looked at my roof in a satellite picture!! The second guy never looked at it at all! Dan Napier actually climbed a ladder, walked the roof, saw the bad spot and discovered another serious gap around chimney that went right thru to attic!!! Can't see that from a satellite or just by walking around the house! Mr. Napier sent someone from his crew to tarp the leak and caulk the gap within a couple of hours of finding it and thank goodness he did, as we have had some serious rain since. He saved me other costly repairs i am sure, with no high pressure -- just the kindest, most honest, up-front good guy you can imagine!! I didn't think there was this quality and caliber of businesses people any more! I love this company and can't wait to see my completed roof! What they've done already --and it hasn't even been the main job -- has been above and beyond anything I could imagine. Terrifically important to me as a single woman was the fact that Mr. Napier didn't try all those shady high pressure tactics or lie to me. He was straightforward, kind, honest and truly had my best interest at heart and actually helped me when those other two guys were just trying to get a contract signed without even looking to see what actually needed to be done. I would say that you don't need to consider anyone else, just go straight to Napier's. Find out for yourself what quality and value is all about - what a true high-class, old-school excellent business looks and acts like! Anything else my house ever needs that they do, my business is theirs! Can't rate them highly enough!!!! They are solid gold! AAA+++ !!! Oh, and they have a great extra - a booklet with houses they've roofed, homeowners you can contact and the address and type of shingle used, so you can drive by and see the shingle you are interested in on an actual house! A super idea and so helpful for color choice! How good is that!"

"In two words, amazing job! Out of the gate Weatherguard impressed with Jimmy, who didn't try and up-sell us on useless tech and inappropriate roofing materials. We were given a very fair price for the amount of work that had to be done, and were even slotted in earlier than expected (which was a very nice surprise). Their crew showed up on time and were very professional. They didn't spend any time goofing around, and not once did I hear the crew swearing or cursing, which is to their credit. They finished in one working day, and from my perspective did amazing work. Overall, Weatherguard did an amazing and professional job, and I highly recommend them to anyone who needs roofing work done without the nonsense. Thanks guys!"

FAQs for roofing installation & roof repair projects in Carleton, MI

An average Cape Cod roof-raising project requires approximately two to three months from start to finish. The timeline depends on several variables, including weather conditions, contractor availability, material delivery schedules, and the specific complexity of your home's structure. The process involves multiple phases, including demolition, framing, roofing, window installation, and interior finishing. Working with an experienced contractor who provides a detailed timeline can help set realistic expectations for the project duration.

While most Cape Cod homes can accommodate roof-raising modifications, each house requires individual structural assessment. Older homes may need foundation reinforcement or wall strengthening before supporting additional weight. Factors like the existing roof framing system, load-bearing wall placement, and overall structural integrity all influence feasibility. A qualified structural engineer should evaluate your specific property before proceeding with design plans. Additionally, local zoning ordinances may restrict maximum building height or architectural modifications in certain neighborhoods.

Temporary relocation is highly recommended during a Cape Cod roof raising project. The construction process involves removing portions of your existing roof, exposing interior spaces to potential weather damage, and creating significant noise and dust. Most homeowners find temporary accommodations for the two to three-month construction period, with relocation costs ranging from $2,000 to $6,000, depending on your housing choices. If staying with family or friends isn't possible, budget for short-term rental or extended-stay hotel expenses as part of your overall project cost.

Consider roof raising when you experience severely limited headroom throughout the second floor, find yourself constantly stooping under sloped ceilings, or have minimal usable floor space due to low ceiling heights. Other indicators include inadequate natural light, poor ventilation, and difficulty accommodating standard furniture in upstairs rooms. Simple renovations can improve an attic's appearance, but cannot create additional headroom without structural modifications. A complete roof-raising project makes more sense than cosmetic renovations if you're seeking genuine second-floor living space rather than just storage improvements.

Begin your search by seeking contractors with specific experience in Cape Cod structural modifications and dormer additions. Request detailed portfolios showing similar completed projects and ask for references from previous clients with comparable work. Verify that potential contractors hold appropriate licenses and insurance coverage and understand local building codes relevant to roof raising. Interview multiple candidates, comparing price quotes and their communication style, project approach, and proposed timeline. The ideal contractor should demonstrate a thorough understanding of Cape Cod architectural characteristics and structural requirements.
