"These guys were professional, fast, and were affordable. Had another company quote me much more than these guys did and the other company was no where near as professional as V Rivera Concrete. 10/10 would recommend! I'm impressed, thank you so much for the beautiful work you did!"

"We elected to do business with Burkett?s Pool Plastering after an impressive sales presentation and the added confidence of a high rating on Angie's List, however, the purported 2 - 3 week time frame to completion ended up stretching out over 10 weeks. During construction, Burkett?s work crew(s) neglected to take adequate precautionary measures and damaged the existing stamped concrete patio surface surrounding pool. After negotiating remediation and despite an executed Contract Change Order, Burkett?s ignored their credit adjustment when effecting final payment, which ultimately required that we submit a formal dispute with our credit card provider to recover overpayment. Communication from Burkett?s was seriously lacking throughout this project and was a constant cause for concern.  As a note, the final result appears satisfactory, although only time will reveal whether the quality meets the superior standards promised by Burkett?s. <br />"

"Initially, looked like a fair job, but later came the headache. The patio was two inched too high of the ground. Which was not in the plan. They  did a shabby job relocating my sprinkers and never replaced my drains and so the  back yard flooded and later the sprinkers didnt work because they left broken sprinklers that they did not tell me about.  I didnt find out til later because it was winter then and I didn't turn on the sprinkler system until after the job was done. Right after the work was done I called a few times to ask them to come back and follow up and they never responded. Never.  They did some landscaping in the side of my house too during the same time and cracked a pipe while putting in the rocks that has to be repaired.  This flooded my front lawn because it water ran to the front lawn. I didn't even bother to call them because they never respond.  Do not hire this company. Absolutely horrible follow up.  Never even called after the job was done to see how things were.  And I was a good customer I paid right on time and even paid over.  Which they later reembursed. <br />"

"Schmidt Construction did an awesome job for me. They are very punctual. They show up and get the job done on a timely manner. Their prices are very reasonable and they pay particular attention to detail in their work. I highly recommend Schmidt Construction for all of your cement needs. You will not be disappointed. I will definitely use them again for future jobs. I give them a thumbs up and a AAA+ rating. Keep up the good work guys and thanks again..."

FAQs for concrete patios, walks & steps installation projects in Catheys Valley, CA

Most sidewalks rely on a ready‑mix blend of Portland cement, sand, gravel, and water that trucks deliver to your site and pour in one continuous lift. For added strength, many contractors fold in fiber mesh or steel reinforcement. This mix cures into a rock‑solid slab that stands up to foot traffic, freeze‑thaw cycles, and daily wear for decades. Expect a pro to recommend a 4‑inch‑thick pour for standard walkways.

With the right mix, proper drainage, and routine upkeep, a concrete sidewalk can last 25 to 50 years. Freeze‑thaw cycles, road salt, and heavy loads all shorten that timeline, but sealing every few years and patching small cracks early keeps damage in check. Think of sealing as inexpensive insurance for decades of safe, stable footing. In milder climates, some slabs push well past the 30‑year mark without major repairs.

Concrete sidewalks crack as a result of significant temperature fluctuations and heavy load pressures. The freeze-thaw cycles and sustained weight from vehicles or intense foot traffic force the concrete to develop cracks over time. Applying a premium sealant every two to three years and substituting salt with sand for de-icing minimizes crack formation. Regular maintenance and timely repairs safeguard the sidewalk’s structural integrity and extend its service life.
