"They were very good at selling the solution, but there was a big gap on the execution of the project, and took multiple iterations to get everything right, I even had to get into the solutioning with the team myself. It is too bad because the technology seems to work fairly well, and that’s why they are getting 3 stars, but I would not use them again."

"I hired Heirloom based in their website and recommendation from my realtor to remove an old kitchen, paint ceiling and walls, replace flooring and install new kitchen, build coat closet and new laundry room. I checked on their work after 4 weeks and found removal of old kitchen, roughed in plumbing and electrical all without a permit.permit application was denied due to no license. Quality of work was terrible, initial 8-10 week estimate was not met; work started in early Sept and code violations were still bring corrected in Jan, even after I removed $8400 work. Charges were unreasonable: electrician charged Heirloom $6000 but I was then charged $10980, a 70% markup. In the middle of the project Kirk Arneson, the gen contractor, suddenly added a new $165/HR charge to process any change request, in addition to his gen contractor markup (or the 70% electrical markup). A 6 & 1/2' Peninsula in the kitchen was all installed in the wrong place. If I could rate them a ZERO I sure would!"

FAQs for concrete patios, walks & steps installation projects in Chippewa Falls, WI

Most sidewalks rely on a ready‑mix blend of Portland cement, sand, gravel, and water that trucks deliver to your site and pour in one continuous lift. For added strength, many contractors fold in fiber mesh or steel reinforcement. This mix cures into a rock‑solid slab that stands up to foot traffic, freeze‑thaw cycles, and daily wear for decades. Expect a pro to recommend a 4‑inch‑thick pour for standard walkways.

With the right mix, proper drainage, and routine upkeep, a concrete sidewalk can last 25 to 50 years. Freeze‑thaw cycles, road salt, and heavy loads all shorten that timeline, but sealing every few years and patching small cracks early keeps damage in check. Think of sealing as inexpensive insurance for decades of safe, stable footing. In milder climates, some slabs push well past the 30‑year mark without major repairs.

Concrete sidewalks crack as a result of significant temperature fluctuations and heavy load pressures. The freeze-thaw cycles and sustained weight from vehicles or intense foot traffic force the concrete to develop cracks over time. Applying a premium sealant every two to three years and substituting salt with sand for de-icing minimizes crack formation. Regular maintenance and timely repairs safeguard the sidewalk’s structural integrity and extend its service life.
