"It was GREAT! The best part was Omar’s (owner) responsiveness. In todays wacky world of contractor unreliability, Omar is an exception. And he even smiles - another unexpected positive experience. My seven year old Brighton Home roof was beginning to have leaks. Well, it leaked at the exit points on the roof because the foreman didn’t caulk the boots around the pipes. Yikes! That was resolved. Then about two years down the road, it happened again and a friend came and added more caulk - I didn’t know if it was the same issue so better to have a friend who shingles take a look. Then, Memorial weekend 2022, huge rain storm for three days and it leaked again in more places. It was time to bring in a professional. I decided to try Angie’s list and that’s where I found Jemza roofing. I read the reviews and invited Omar to come look at the roof. I thought he would go on top first but he immediately went into the arctic to look for traces of leaks and found a few obvious. Then he went on the roof and the suspect was the plastic boots around the pipes protruding the roof - vent pipes from heating, toilets, etc. they were cracked and the caulk was not adhering to them. Thus, gaps, therefore leaks. Omar’s solution was to replace all the boots around the pipes and add new caulk. He also proposed to paint the new galvanized boots and pipes the color of my roof so they weee less obvious. Omar arrived a bit late, I should have dinged him on punctuality but honestly that’s pretty petty given it all was exceptional and that’s what mattered. Omar and his son went to work on the roof and it took about two hours to replace six or seven boots, caulk and paint. He also caulked some exposed nail heads and the seam where my leaf helmet and roof met. I had another contractor from Google site also come and review the issues and the reason I didn’t go with them was the amount of time it took this other company to identify the problem. This other person really didn’t pinpoint it but he suggested the same solution. It meant I may have paid for a fix that didn’t fix the problem had I not known what Omar discover and physically showed me. I won’t know if Omar really fixed the roof until it rains but based on what he showed me of the old boots and photos he took while on the roof, I’m 99.997% confident (that’s for you Six Sigma folks). In other words the odds were extremely low that the problem was not solved. Omar is raising the next generation, his son, and other family members to carry on in a few years. He’s been at roof installation and repair for 22+ years so do you think he knows what he’s doing? I do. Thank you Omar for a great end product, fairly priced and dine right the first time. You’re a gem in a pearl in a sea of coal. Next time I need my roof repairs or replaced, I don’t need to look further than Jemza (that’s an abbreviation of family member names I learned). Gracious Omar"

"Rapid Roofing did a phenomenal job on our roof. They were quick and professional. The job in its entirety took just 3 days. That included the tear off, removal of the swamp cooler, and the put back . The owner, Gary Peterson, kept us up to date with scheduling and checked in on the project each day. There were no hidden costs or surprises at the end of the project. Gary was upfront with each step of the process. I would recommend Rapid Roofing to anyone needing their roof repaired or replaced."

"Dave Wright is extremely knowledgeable about a wide variety of things in and around the house. We plan to use his services further to complete several projects around the house that have been sitting unfinished and/or in need of repair for eons. There is a waiting list, but that is to be expected when you want the best!"

"We requested several bids from a few roofing companies and when it came down to the initial visit, we knew Aspen was the right choice. Craig came out, answered questions, inspected the roof and the attic and assured us that they could do the job. When it was time to get started, Craig communicated what the job would entail, what to expect, timeline, and verified that all our questions were answered. The project was also completed within the time we were given. In the end, we recieved a beautiful new roof and confidence that the product and workmanship will last for many years without worry. We highly recommend their services."

"My roof was 19 years old but was deteriorating. This was probably due to the fact it was roofed over the previous shingles which were now 34 years old. I was hoping to get another year or two before a complete replacement, but I had a leak in the garage. I talked to Phil at Horizons and got an estimate for a complete re-roof and then contacted him back for just the leak repair. I sent photos and he sent a repair contract for $495 which I signed on Aug. 20, 2017. An employee from Horizon came on September 1, 2017, to repair the roof. He brought his dog and mountain bike and said he was on his way to Montana for a trip. While the dog was tied in my front yard, he began working. He asked me if I had shingles. I went into the attic of the garage and found some 19-year-old shingles from the previous roof job. He spent about 3 hours removing the old shingles and repairing some plywood and using the shingles I provided. He caulked some around the area. Not long after the repair, there was a moderate rainstorm. This was a good test for the repair. Unfortunately, the leak was worse than it was before the repair. I contacted Phil with the news and more photos. He said he was surprised and suggested that the leak was caused by overflowing rain gutters - which was not the case. The same Horizon employee came by again. He had his dog again and a friend with him and said he was on his way to an event. He was not in a good mood. I had a hose on the roof so we could do a water test to try to isolate where the water was coming in. He didn't like that idea and we didn't do any water testing. He said the roof needed to be replaced because the water could be leaking in from anywhere. Then he slapped down a bunch of caulking between some of the shingles. Then he said he only bought one tube of caulk and asked if I had caulk. So, I went into the garage and found a tube of caulk. He continued to caulk. He spent about 20 minutes or so and left. The next day, I went up to do a water test by running water over the section. The leak was just as bad inside the garage. I contacted Phil again and he emailed back that he was out of town and we can address it again when he returned. I decided at that point, to look at other options. The three stars reflect the communications I had with Phil and their attempts at repair. The deduction of two stars reflects a rather negative experience with the repair employee, having to provide the shingles and the caulking for the repair, and having to pay $495 for a leak repair that was never actually repaired. In fairness, I'm sure Phil WOULD HAVE continued to try to repair the leak if I would have kept insisting. But after the second failure and after I talked to him when he was out of town, I didn't call or email him back and he never contacted me again even though he knew the leak was not repaired. I figured they were hoping I'd just go away - which I did."

"Bob Harvey Roofing did an excellent job. John headed up our job, but the entire crew was, very respectful, friendly and professional. They did a great job of cleaning up after the work was done. They communicated with me each day so I knew what was going on with my job. It is so awesome to see this kind of integrity in a company today, Pam Taylor"

"Wow! Much better than I could have anticipated. Day one the crew came and tore off the existing shingles and prepped the roof for the shingles. There was a lot of work done at this stage and our home was waterproofed had it rained, which I appreciated. Prior to this, a dumpster was placed to the side of our home so as to not block the entrance to our garage. This was really nice of them but it made them have to walk further! Day two the shingles were delivered, and on day three the crew returned and the job was finished in hours. The GAF system that J & N uses is a superior system and it makes my shingling job of 24 years ago on our home pale by comparison. A competitor of J & N's gave me a bid about the same price but only after asking what other bids were. His is the most reviewed company on Angie's list. The bid Norm gave me and the final price would have been the same, but Norm installed ridgevents and removed the roof vents and patched the roof vent holes at my request and also because Norm felt the ridgeventing is better than roof vents. Clean up was very thorough all days. No flat tires or nails found. A couple of neighbors did their shingles at the same time and I have to say in my biased point of view that ours is by far the best looking roof of all. I found it easiest to text Norm to contact him and he was good about returning texts. I would use his company again but I expect this roof to last longer than me at my age of 63! Thanks guys!"

"The work performed was well done. I have a Cape Cod house and the roof is a big part of my home's curb appeal. Despite my home being older, they matched the shingles very well. I also got a free quote on what it will cost to eventually replace my roof; that was much appreciated. Dave honored a quote he gave me last fall, which was some time ago. Once I wanted to get he job started, the communication from the company was really lacking, however. I believe that a death in the family of the owner had something to do with this. I had little notice on when they were coming (I was told roof repair jobs are small and are just squished in between bigger roof replacement jobs) and the workers that finally arrived did not communicate at all with me, not even to let me know they were here. They just did the work and left. I called the owner to express my chagrin at the lack of communication and after a few days, he called me back to resolve this issue. I appreciated that. I would recommend them."

FAQs for roofing installation & roof repair projects in Clearfield, UT

An average Cape Cod roof-raising project requires approximately two to three months from start to finish. The timeline depends on several variables, including weather conditions, contractor availability, material delivery schedules, and the specific complexity of your home's structure. The process involves multiple phases, including demolition, framing, roofing, window installation, and interior finishing. Working with an experienced contractor who provides a detailed timeline can help set realistic expectations for the project duration.

While most Cape Cod homes can accommodate roof-raising modifications, each house requires individual structural assessment. Older homes may need foundation reinforcement or wall strengthening before supporting additional weight. Factors like the existing roof framing system, load-bearing wall placement, and overall structural integrity all influence feasibility. A qualified structural engineer should evaluate your specific property before proceeding with design plans. Additionally, local zoning ordinances may restrict maximum building height or architectural modifications in certain neighborhoods.

Temporary relocation is highly recommended during a Cape Cod roof raising project. The construction process involves removing portions of your existing roof, exposing interior spaces to potential weather damage, and creating significant noise and dust. Most homeowners find temporary accommodations for the two to three-month construction period, with relocation costs ranging from $2,000 to $6,000, depending on your housing choices. If staying with family or friends isn't possible, budget for short-term rental or extended-stay hotel expenses as part of your overall project cost.

Consider roof raising when you experience severely limited headroom throughout the second floor, find yourself constantly stooping under sloped ceilings, or have minimal usable floor space due to low ceiling heights. Other indicators include inadequate natural light, poor ventilation, and difficulty accommodating standard furniture in upstairs rooms. Simple renovations can improve an attic's appearance, but cannot create additional headroom without structural modifications. A complete roof-raising project makes more sense than cosmetic renovations if you're seeking genuine second-floor living space rather than just storage improvements.

Begin your search by seeking contractors with specific experience in Cape Cod structural modifications and dormer additions. Request detailed portfolios showing similar completed projects and ask for references from previous clients with comparable work. Verify that potential contractors hold appropriate licenses and insurance coverage and understand local building codes relevant to roof raising. Interview multiple candidates, comparing price quotes and their communication style, project approach, and proposed timeline. The ideal contractor should demonstrate a thorough understanding of Cape Cod architectural characteristics and structural requirements.
