"I had a wall in my basement that was filing up with water from runoff outside. The wall started leaking into my basement. The crew jackhammered a trench along the wall in my basement and installed a drainage pipe, fill and a sump pump. They cemented over the trench and it looks like they were never here. Lots of rain since then and my basement is dry. Timely and professional- highly recommend"

"I'm not fully moved into the home yet, but I will update when I am there permanently. The crew was very professional, worked diligently, cleaned up after every day of work (three day job--french drain expansion, two additional sump pumps installed, window drains into the sump pumps, pretty extensive job)."

"For over 20 years my wife and I used another A rated Angie’s List heating and air conditioning firm and we have given them good reviews in the past. Recently our 20+ year old heater started acting up. At times throughout the day or night the burner wouldn’t ignite and we would be without heat. After seven service calls and various parts at the cost of $700.00 our old service company could not repair the heater and the problem remained unresolved. So we decided to get estimates to replace our entire HVAC system mainly due to it’s age and this unsolved problem. Vaughan Heating and Air Conditioning was on our list of acceptable companies to speak with due to their Angie’s List A rating. We called Vaughan and they sent Tony Pellegrino to our home the next day. My wife and I were very impressed with Tony. He spent over an hour at our home scoping out our basement, configuring our new system and answering our questions. Later that day we received the Vaughan estimate that Tony sent by email. I called Tony and he spent another hour on the phone addressing my questions and concerns. We received the other competitor's estimates over the next two days. We accepted the Vaughan’s estimate which was $1,100.00 more then the lowest estimate and $2,500.00 less then the highest estimate we received. Our choice was based on our comfort level with Tony, the price of the job, the longevity of the company (established in 1937) and the quality of the heating and air conditioning units that Vaughan installs. We accepted the Vaughan estimate on Saturday evening and Tony scheduled our job that coming week on Tuesday (for the heater) and Thursday (for the air conditioner). The reason for the one day in between work was because they squeezed our job into an already full week of installations and we were really pleased that they did that for us. On Tuesday morning at 8:30am the installer’s, Marcus and Jeff were at our house ready to start the job. These guys were friendly, professional, extremely competent and also very neat and clean, covering our rugs, etc. Jeff and Marcus did and exceptional job installing our new HVAC system. It’s “state of the art”! My wife and I are extremely happy with the job Vaughan Heating & Air Conditioning did and we could not be more comfortable, then we are now, in our home. A great price, a great people and a great job! We highly recommend Vaughan Heating & Air Conditioning! Len & Lorraine Fedullo"

"Company provided full service of waterproofing. Sump pump and French drainage system installed. This additional project included optional mold remediation/prevention, which I accepted. They waterproof and sanitized start of mold to prevent it from taking hold and causing this to become a future issue. Timely, professional, punctual and customer service oriented. Did not just have a plan of action, but educated consumer on all aspects of the job beforehand and updated me as progress was made. Both jobs completed ahead of schedule. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND this company."

"Company misdiagnosed a tricky situation. 2 other plumbers also misdiagnosed. Had I gone with this company on a tricky situation, I would have spend the money on some things that needed to be done anyway, but once the work is done would have realized that was not the real problem. The plumber came out with the camera and shot the sewer line and said I had a clogged house trap and holes in the line causing seep into french drain. I had another plumber out and review the same facts and determined that the leak was coming from another pipe not the main or due to the house trap backing up. We cut out drywall in a new section and found more water. BINGO. We proceeded and he cut out the concrete and we found the pipe ran water and saw the water coming out from the pipe that was under the floor. This pipe connected tot the main with a Y. We replaced this and the main down sewer line. YEAH. When asked about the main line out of the house it was in good shape and the house trap was not clogged. He did suggest removing it so if we had any issues going forward that we could have better access to the street. Since he had his guys out there it was worth it. Had I done what CT wanted I would have a new sewer line and house trap, BUT BUT BUT, when done I would have a leaking pipe still. I don't understand how with the camera he didn't see the "Y" there and put his camera down that pipe. Had he done that, the leak was 7 feet away and it was so obvious. I think CT is a plumber that can handle other jobs, but my rating is based upon this tricky situation and the misdiagnosis of the job. It would have been bad had the wrong fix been put in."

FAQs for sump pump or interior foundation drains installation projects in Clementon, NJ

Most residential pumps draw approximately 1,300 to 2,900 watts when they first start, then settle at roughly 800 to 1,050 watts during normal operation. The exact number depends on the motor’s horsepower and how often the float switch tells the pump to run. Even at the high end, the electricity cost is minor compared with the expense of cleaning up a flooded basement.

Grab a ruler and an empty 18‑inch‑wide pit. During a steady rain, time how much the water rises in one minute. Multiply that depth (in inches) by 60 to calculate gallons per hour, then add 50% for safety. If the result tops 2,100 gallons per hour—about 35 gallons a minute—you’ll need a 3/4‑horsepower unit. Anything lower, and a 1/3- or 1/2-horsepower pump should do the trick.

Loud rattling, constant cycling, or shuddering vibrations are the pump’s way of telling you it’s on its last legs. Musty smells, higher electric bills, and visible rust are other red flags. If the unit is 10 years old or older and exhibits any of these symptoms, replace it before the next heavy rain turns your basement into a wading pool.

You don’t have to hire a licensed plumber, but you should still bring in someone who installs sump pumps for a living—whether that’s a plumber, basement‑waterproofing specialist, or experienced handyman. They know the local codes, can wire the pump safely, and will test the system before they leave. Skipping professional help might void the warranty and could leave you with a pump that fails when you need it most.

Not every basement needs a pump, but if your home sits in a floodplain, has a high water table, or has ever taken on water during a storm, a sump pump is inexpensive insurance. For basements that only struggle with condensation or the occasional damp spot, sealing cracks and improving drainage may be all that is needed.
